Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Enjoy your stay at this peaceful, gently sloping lakefront property on quiet Mill Creek Cove just around the point from the remodeled Waterside (formerly Andersonville) Marina which is located just 7.5 miles northeast on Highway #61 from exit #122 on I-75. Norris Lake, with its 34,000 acres of blue-green pristine waters, spans more than 800 miles of shoreline.

The single-level 35+ year-old rustic house has a cozy den w/ceiling fan, a stone wood-burning fireplace (wood not provided), and a day bed with a trundle. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and antique furniture with a full bath beside it. One room with an antique double bed is on the lakeside and has a view of the lake; the third bedroom also has a double bed and a small windowseat with a cot-sized mattress. There is a full bath between these two bedrooms. A large paved driveway in front of the house has room for several cars or trucks and boat trailers. The single car garage is not available.

In addition to a full-service, remodeled kitchen and a separate laundry room, there is a bright, large sunroom facing the lake with a huge table for those fantastic family meals. Both the den and the sunroom open onto a large deck one-third of which is covered and has a porch swing, a second swing, hooks for a baby swing, a ceiling fan, deck chairs, and rocking chairs. A stone-lined dirt path leads through the wooded back yard to a private dock with a ladder, a large umbrella for shade, and boat or wave-runner tie-off cletes. By September, the water has usually gone down enough that the dock is not floating. The water is usually high enough to float the dock again by April 1st. Please call or email to find out the dock situation if your vacation plans are for the late summer or early spring.

Waterside Marina, a very short walk though not visible from the house or dock, has a restaurant and small store. Although the Marina does not accommodate public boat launching, they do allow our renters to launch and drive your boat around to our dock. However, you must park your vehicle and trailer back in our driveway. There is enough paved driveway space to park 3 trucks with trailers. There is a Super Walmart near the interstate exit only seven miles away. Although many of the conveniences are within a few miles, the area is peaceful, wooded, and within a quiet, friendly neighborhood that has been established for over 50 years.

The house is 5 miles from Big Ridge State Park, 7 miles from Norris Dam State Park, and 6 miles from The Museum of Appalachia. Both parks offer wonderful activities including covered picnic areas, volleyball, softball, tennis courts, hiking trails, and a variety of playgrounds. The Chuck Swan Wildlife Management Area, a short boat ride from the house, is an undisturbed 25,000 acre wildlife preserve offering seasonal licensed hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain bike riding, wildlife observation and photography. There are private Horseback Riding businesses and ATV rentals and trails nearby also.

The 'Wood Duck Inn' is extremely accommodating to family gatherings or small groups and is a short drive from Knoxville.

About Martie Wood

We live in Knoxville and have a dog. Our grown children also live in Knoxville. We have celebrated many birthdays, holidays, and gatherings at our lakehouse.

Martie Wood purchased this house in 1989

Why Martie Wood chose Norris Lake

We love Norris Lake and have always taken our family there when we have had the chance. We searched for several years for a place on the lake that was fairly level and a short drive from Knoxville, and we found it.

What makes this house unique

We mainly enjoy the peacefulness of being on the cove, so close to the Marina but not impacted by it. When people go out of the Marina, they usually go the opposite direction from where we are, so our cove is peaceful. Also, the sunset there is beautiful and most of our excellent neighbors are there year round making it a very safe place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mrs. Wood:

I want to thank you for such a nice time at your lake house again. We always enjoy renting your home. It is so peaceful to have breakfast on your deck while watching all of the water fowl. You have a great little piece of heaven. I do not know which season I enjoy the most while staying at your lake house!! I look forward to our next vacation there.

Norris Lake Never Disappoints

  • 4 of 5

Although the cabin is older, it was well equipped & the beds were comfortable. The sunroom & large deck were our favorite places. The dock was easily accessible &had a good ladder for swimming, long enough to easily get in the water, where the family spent hours every day & the umbrella provided good shade from the sun.

The location is convenient to Walmart which made shopping easier.

Owner's Response: Thank you for responding. You are right, there is nothing modern about the house, but it is comfortable and convenient to the marina and to shopping, while still feeling like you are away from the hubbub of daily life. I am glad you enjoyed the time there and hope you come back some day.

Tranquil and Quaint Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The history of Wood Duck Inn is almost palpable when you walk in the 50-yr old house--from the vintage furnishings and family photographs to the stacked stone fireplace and knotty pine paneling. Like Wood Duck Inn, we have nearly 50 years of Norris Lake memories ourselves. On this trip, we fished, "bobbed" for hours with friends and family in the beautiful water near the cliff, had cookouts, and read books on the porch swing. Mill Creek cove is perfect for kayaking in the early morning or evening, when jet skiers have worn themselves out and gone home. On our last evening, we watched the Perseid Meteor Shower from our friend's dock.

Beds are comfy, plenty of space for privacy, well-equipped kitchen (although the nostalgic Hamilton Beach mixer refused to cooperate!). Great communication with the owners. The home was nearly perfect for us. The ONLY reason we didn't give it 5 stars was beyond Martie and Scrog's control--thanks to TVA, the decreasing water levels on Norris Lake throughout the summer created shallow, rocky waters near the dock. Just something to consider if you have a large boat and want it within footsteps of your vacation home.

You know it's a winner when you want to return and do it all over again! Thanks for sharing your treasure Martie and Scrog!

Owner's Response: Thank you for responding. I sure wish that TVA would consult with me before dropping the lake. This summer, the lake never reached "summer pool," so when they started dropping it, our dock got shallow earlier than usual. Typically, it is late August or early September when we have to land our dock. We usually compensate somewhat for those who end up having to rent a slip at the marina. Also, we always tell prospective guests before renting that the August and later rentals may not get to use the dock. I am glad you enjoyed your time, and got to do some bobbing with friends.

Great fun & Super Convenient

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, 2 kids, and 2 of their friends stayed there this June and had an awesome time. The location is very convenient (walking distance from Waterside) and very secluded. The floor plan was perfect for letting our kids have their "space" without having to socialize with us!. No issues with the boat dock, appliances, service, etc. Great Time.

Perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

Was in town to visit family and it was suggested we rent a house on Norris Lake. What a gem this rental was! The house is absolutely charming, loved the deck and the walk to the dock was great. Loved that we were made to feel welcome, plenty for the kids to do, we had family stay at the marina and come visit and no problem. Plenty of room/space and just WONDERFUL! We swam off the dock every day plus rented boats and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. My 10 year old proclaimed this to be the BEST vacation ever. We so look forward to coming back to the Lake next year.
