Unique Designer Apartment close to Rambla de Catalunia and Paseo de Gracia

The apartment is situated in a residential building of modernist style built around 1904 by the architect Maurici Augé Robert who was also author to other elegant buildings and houses of similar style built in the Eixample district of Barcelona and one of the candidates for the construction of the Columbus monument for the preparation of the Expo 1888. The building is characterized by a rich stone ornamentation such as the Salomonic columns and the busts carved into the lintels, specially the one dominating the front door.

The apartment itself is as unique as the building. The owner of the apartment has taken care of the decoration himself, as owner of a high end furniture and decoration business that also through the close relationship between his family and Salvador Dalí, has collaborated in the furnishing of well known buildings such as the Teatre-Museu Dalí in Figueres, the Casa-Museu Salvador Dalí in Portlligat and the Casa-Museu Castell Gala Dalí in Púbol.

Our guests in this apartment enjoy a spacious living room with a white sofa, 2 classy arm chairs and a glass dining table with 6 chairs, a flat screen TV and DVD player. From the living room there is access to two balconies from where one can overview the street down to the corner of Rambla de Catalunya. There is a lot of natural light coming through two big windows. The bedroom (formerly equipped with 2 single beds pushed together) now contains a double bed (180cm wide) with a mattress of highest quality. In front of the bed, in the white cupboard there is the second TV for guests who enjoy watching TV from the bed.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything one would require to prepare and enjoy a meal in the apartment. Further on at the guest’s disposal are fridge, freezer, oven, stove, washer, dryer, dish washer, toaster, coffee maker, kettle as well as an iron and an iron board. The bathroom in this apartment offers a sink, WC and a spacious walk in shower.

The building’s community is quiet and friendly.

In general:

The apartment and the area are safe. During the day there is a doorman in the building. In order to get into the apartment one would have to pass 3 solid doors (building door, staircase door and apartment door) all equipped with security locks.

Located on the corner with Rambla de Catalunya, this apartment offers the guest the best of both worlds; close enough to Plaza Cataluña, Las Ramblas, La Boqueria market, El Born or the Gothic Quarter which all can be reached within 10 minutes walking down beautiful Rambla de Catalunya. On the other hand famous sights such as La Pedrera and Casa Batlló are just a stone through from the apartment. Also Sagrada Familia, the symbol of Barcelona can be reached walking within about 15 minutes. Paseo de Gracia; the second street from the apartment is Barcelona's wealthiest avenue. Here is where all the famous designer brands have their stores.

There is cute little bakery right next door and the area itself is filled with quality tapas restaurants. During the check-in procedure our guests will receive detailed explanations about everything that is useful and important to know when visiting this great city. We have a selection of restaurant and tapas bar recommendations prepared and will advise where to find the next grocery store, about shop opening hours, etc.. Amazing location & a super lovely apartment !!!

Thank you Marcel! It was an absolute pleasure to deal with you and we fell in love with the apartment. From the first email, to our arrival & the orientation you provided, and arranging a taxi to the airport on the last day...you were an email or phone call away. I so appreciated your level of service, professionalism, timeliness and good nature. When we travel, we stay in apartments as opposed to hotels and I have to say that this has been my best find yet...and I've scoped out many apartments in many locations! I had been dreaming of my trip to Barcelona for many months and our stay could not have been more perfect. It will remain a very special memory. For those reading this, we were 4 adults in our mid 50's staying here for a 10 night stay. The apartment was spotless and exactly as the pictures – the black & white décor, exquisite furnishings & building facade provided much character. All the beds (even the two in the dining room that dropped down) were very comfy – 12” mattresses on all beds! First day in, we immediately felt at home and didn't want to leave. Located a few blocks from much of Gaudi's work too...perfect location. We walked to Sagrada Familia, the beach, the Cathedral in the Gothic area, etc...apt was close enough to the main touristy sites, restaurant and plenty of shopping and yet resided on the cuff of quieter streets. PERFECT! Huge grocery store 7 minute walk away, and bakery and small store around the corner. We cooked-up a few meals and enjoyed a few dinners indoors, it was lovely. Plenty of taxis at your door-steps. A/C worked very well, it was nice to come back to a very cool apartment as the weather was quite hot in July. Wifi/Internet perfect! Shower water pressure, amazing! On Day 2 the coffee maker stopped working, Marcel replaced the unit within hours...that's service!!!

For those looking for a great apartment, look no further, you won't be disappointed with this find...this is the place to stay! Safe neighborhood too. I would not hesitate to recommend this place and when we return to Barcelona we would definitely stay here again, definitely! Thank you for everything Marcel, be well...Linda & Murray

A Good Find

We found this apartment extremely clean, with an attractive decor, terrific light throughout the unit, and an excellent location. The dining room in this rental was especially appealing. The manager gave us a detailed orientation to the apartment, and that, too, was a great advantage of renting here.

There are some problems with the apartment, though, that should also be mentioned. The storage for clothes is in closets that are behind the dining table. This means that you have to move the chairs away and push the table forward to get real access to them. The very comfortable bed is an asset, but there is very little space to squeeze through the openings between the bedroom area and the rest of the apartment (see photo), so if you plan to get up in the middle of the night, this could be a hazard to you. Finally, it's true that you can't hear traffic noise with the windows closed, but if you want fresh air, you will definitely hear the din of traffic. We were generally happy with this apartment, despite these minuses.

A wonderful experience

My wife and I stayed for two months in Barcelona, most of that time in this lovely apartment. It was wonderful.

The apartment is beautifully decorated, with good quality furniture, and there is a well equipped kitchen. The thermal insulation is very good. Wireless Internet connection was fast and solid.

The location is excellent. Passeig de Gracia is only one and half blocks away, and you can walk to Casa Milà, Casa Batlló or Plaça de Catalunya. There are two metro stations and plenty of bus stops in the neighborhood, as well as many restaurants, bakeries and several supermarkets.

I would recommend this apartment without any hesitation, and on our next visit to Barcelona we would definitely like to stay here again.

Our Favorite Tourist Apartment

We have stayed in many tourist apartments around the world, and can clearly state that this was the best. The design is beautiful and exactly as you see in the photos. All equipment works well: Elevator, A/C, dishwasher, washer & dryer, bathroom. Very quiet with the windows closed, comfortable bed in dark area, perfect for sleeping. Excellent service provided by Marcel. Superb location within walking distance of Metro, food shops, lots of restaurants and bars. Away from the tourist hubbub, but close enough for walking. My only criticisms are that the kitchen could be better equipped and the TV could have more variety of channels. But we hope to return someday. This place is superb!

Perfect!

This was my first experience with VRBO and I have to say, Casa Verdu has set the bar very high for subsequent rentals! I spent a long time looking for the perfect place to enjoy our first visit to Barcelona and I found it in this beautiful condo that was perfect for two people. And I have to say, it was a pleasure dealing with Marcel from the get-go. He was professional, responsive and extremely helpful. We arrived at 8 pm after a flight from Zurich and he was at the front door to greet us. He gave us a detailed orientation to the apartment and the area and our 3 night stay couldn't have been better. First off, the condo is elegant, spotlessly clean, and in a super location. We had everything we needed in the way of dishes, towels, bedding (super comfortable bed and lots of pillows) as well as a washer/dryer and a fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom was spacious, had lots of hot water and good pressure in the shower and the two balconies in the living room look over a tree lined street that is quite busy but when the doors are closed you hardly hear anything. An all night store a block away provided us with what we needed in the way of breakfast basics, but given that we ate our lunches and dinners out, we didn't miss the kitchen being stocked with everything necessary for cooking meals. We really appreciated Marcel's recommendations for places to eat and found a few of our own. As well, we were meeting family from Sweden so the condo became a great place to rendezvous. We enjoyed ToTo's bar and restaurant just down the road, as well as easy access to the shops and restaurants nearby. All in all, a beautiful property that I would not hesitate to stay at again or to recommend!

Could Not Have Been Better

Based on the pictures and reviews, my expectations where high. They were surpassed. Beautiful apartment, beautiful city, super helpful, friendly and professional contacts (Marcel and Andrea). I've stayed in numerous Airbnb and VRBO places (including three different ones on this trip) and this was easily the best so far. The apartment is very clean, comfortable, beautifully appointed and quiet. The location is great. The elevator most welcome on those days you feel you've walked a hundred miles. The air-conditioning even more welcome than the elevator. You get the picture. Basically, if I return to Barcelona (and I want to), this is the first place I will try to book.

The apartment is located at the edge between the old town (Raval, Gothic quarter, Las Ramblas and El Borne) and the Eixample with Placa Catalunia (the main square) and Paseo de Gracia just around the corner. It is situated in a typical Eixample building at the corner with Rambla de Catalunia.

Eixample, which translates as 'extension' in recognition of its status as the newer part of the city, is a large area north of Placa Catalunya spreading left and right of Passeig de Gracia.

Nowadays Eixample is famous for being home to the majority of Barcelona's art nouveau masterpieces, and a high-class residential and shopping area.

Passeig de Gracia is the heart of Eixample and the line that cuts the area into two from 'Eixample left' and 'Eixample right'.

Here you will find most of Barcelona's international designer shops such as Chanel and MaxMara. Also along this road are La Pedrera and Casa Batllo, two of Gaudi's characteristically dreamlike buildings. There are many interesting art galleries in the area and if art appeals then be sure to have a look in Fundacion Antoni Tapies which is just off Passeig de Gracia and has a permanent collection of this Catalan artist's work.

Eixample is a safe and residential part of the city but there is also a vibrant night-life and a thriving café culture. Eixample is a beautiful barrio to wander round, take in the glorious architecture and people-watch from one of the many terrace cafés.

It is in Eixample that you will find some of the best, and most expensive, restaurants in town. This combined with some internationally known bars such as Dry Martini makes the area a very pleasant place to spend an evening.

Transport to and from the area is good. Eixample is serviced by several metro stops, as well as the FGC train. However the area is very central and most other parts of the city are within walking distance.
