Lake Maggiore is one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe, if not the world, and the region offers numerous attractions to visitors of all ages. We can provide you with many suggestions and recommend some of our favorite places to help you make the most of your holiday. The following are just some of the many attractions and activities the area has to offer:
-The region's world famous music festival runs from June to September. Enjoy numerous free concerts and performances, many in romantic, outdoor settings.
-Wonderful street markets in Stresa, Arona, Intra, Cannobio…. a great place to taste some of the regional specialities and buy locally made arts and crafts, antiques, souvenirs, etc.
-Visit the famous Borromeo islands (Isola Bella, Madre and Pescatori) for their beautiful palaces, exquisite gardens and charming villages.
-Take the Lago Maggiore Express tour which combines a boat cruise to Locarno (Switzerland) and a scenic train ride through the Alps before completing the loop back to Stresa.
-Visit the many great points of interest around Lake Maggiore, including the statue of Carlo Borromeo in Arona, the Rocca Borromea castle in Angera, the Santa Caterina monastery near Leggiuno, and the lush gardens of Villa Taranto in Pallanza.
-Enjoy the views from Mount Sasso del Ferro above Laveno. The two-person bucket lift is an unforgettable experience on its own.
-For more breathtaking views of the region get to the top of Mount Mottarone (either by cable car from Stresa or by car). Enjoy the superb panoramic view (7 lakes and Monte Rosa), have a delicious lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants, and enjoy family fun at Alpyland.
-Take advantage of the numerous water activities, including boating, sailing, wind surfing, kayak and swimming (we will show you the best and cleanest beaches).
-Visit the beautiful Lake Orta. The charming San Giulio is a jewel of a town and the Sacro Monte above it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
-Milan is only a one-hour train ride from Stresa. Visit the Duomo, La Scala and the designer shops within the world famous fashion triangle.
-Great hiking throughout the region. We will provide you with detailed maps and recommend some of our favourite trails.
-Many popular day trips and excursions, including the Three Lakes tour (Maggiore, Lugano and Como), Zermatt, Bergamo and others.
-Golf, skiing, biking…. Numerous local golf courses and skiing resorts to choose from.

We normally don’t write reviews unless we are very disappointed or extremely happy with the places we stayed at. This was the latter case…. everything about this apartment and our holiday was perfect and so much better than we expected. It started off with a very quick and easy booking process. Even though the owners provide pretty much all the information you’ll ever need about the apartment and the area on the website, they promptly and thoroughly answered all of our questions and concerns prior to us booking the unit. When we arrived at the property the owners, Maciek and Brenda, personally welcomed us at the apartment, showed us around the unit and explained where everything was and how things worked (the satellite TV, stove, etc.). They also provided us with lots of information about the area (maps, brochures, booklets,…) and gave us some good advice on what places to visit, where to have a nice lunch or dinner, what beaches to go to and much more. This was very much appreciated as this was our first time at Lake Maggiore and with so much to see and do we needed some help organizing and planning our stay there. As to the apartment itself, we loved it the minute we saw it. It is very bright, spacious and well planned out. Given that this was where the owners used to live it is furnished with nice, high quality furniture and it’s very tastefully decorated (not too much, not too little.) It also comes with everything you could possibly need during your holiday (including books, playing cards, games, etc.). The best feature of the apartment has to be the view and the wonderful huge terrace where we were spending most of our time while at the apartment... truly a great place to dine "al fresco", enjoy a cappuccino or a glass or wine, or simply relax while reading a book or taking in the sun.
Magognino itself is also a very nice small town. It offers spectacular views of the lake and the mountains, it's very close to Stresa and it's quite central to all of the other attractions the area has to offer. It's also much more peaceful, quieter and fresher than the towns right on the lake which can get somewhat hot and stuffy during the summer months. Overall, much like everyone else, we cannot say anything negative about this apartment. We were very impressed with it and it made for a truly wonderful, memorable holiday. If you are looking for a nice place around Lake Maggiore rent this apartment.... you will not be disappointed.
We stay in this apartment for few days in June. We came by train to Stresa and the owners said they will pick up us from the train station because we have much luggage. It was very kind of them. The apartment is perfect, very nice view, new furniture and very nice big terrace. It is even better in real than the photos. We took bus to Stresa and few times we walk (about 1 hour). From Stresa you can take boat all around Lake Maggiore, go by bus to other towns or take the train, etc. (many different options). One time we took taxi back to the apartment (to Magognino) from Stresa for 15 euro. In Magognino is a small food market with many different things (milk, eggs, bread, cheese, meat, etc.) The restaurants are 2 km away (about 20 minutes) but is very nice walk. We really like this apartment and can recommend to everyone. Next time we come with car to Lake Maggiore and we will stay here again. Thank you again to owners Brenda and Maciek.
My husband and I stayed at this apartment in November of 2011, after we spent a week at the apartment in July. This is such a beautiful area that we decided to come back and explore it a bit more. We will most likely come back once more in a year or two. We enjoyed both of our stays very much. The apartment is perfect… clean, spacious and very nicely furnished. Plus the view is amazing. Though the evenings do get a bit chilly in November, we could still enjoy a nice morning cappuccino and lunch on the terrace. It is also a perfect time for hiking in the mountains (which we both love) and enjoying all the colors of the season. There are many wonderful trails just minutes from the apartment which means you don’t need to drive anywhere to enjoy the nature. The owners, who have lived in the area for a number of years, will provide you with all the local maps you will need and they will recommend many wonderful places to visit and explore. Overall, we truly had a wonderful experience and that is why we will stay at this apartment again once we come back to the area.
First, let me start off by saying that this was our first time renting an apartment for our holiday (we usually stay at hotels or B&B). Since there were four of us (two adults and two children), we decided to look for an apartment and we chose this one based largely on the reviews we have read from other travelers. Needless to say we were quite impressed with its quality and the attention to detail that the owners put in. The apartment looks, feels and smells like “brand new” (it is only 5 years old) and it comes with everything you could ever need during your vacation stay. And the wonderful hilltop location, overlooking the beautiful lake and the surrounding mountains, made our stay there very memorable. We liked very much going down to Stresa and other beautiful towns around the lake but some of our most enjoyable evenings were spent on the nice terrace, eating dinners, playing cards, etc. On a couple of occasions we even went to the local town “festa”, right there in Magognino, where we sat down along the locals and enjoyed delicious food straight off the grill…. a truly fun and memorable experience.
If we have to be picky, the only slightly negative thing about the apartment was the parking. The garage is not that big and we had some trouble parking our car there. To be fair, however, we rented a pretty big car (an SUV) and we are used to our big American sizes. Besides, there is plenty of additional parking space about 50 meters from the property where we parked on a few occasions without any problems. Other than that the apartment is truly perfect and we can honestly recommend it (as we have to many of our friends). Should we ever come back to this area, and we really hope we will, we would love to stay there again.
We were very happy with this apartment. It was recommended to us by our friend who stayed there before. It was very clean and very nicely furnished, unlike some other places we stayed at. And it was very comfortable for our whole family (two adults and two children). It is also perfectly located, close to the lake, Stresa, shops, restaurants and other attractions. There is a nice small food store very close by, perfect for picking up fresh bread, milk, eggs, etc. The owners, Maciek and Brenda, were also extremely helpful. They told us about many different things to do and see and they recommended some wonderful restaurants very close to the apartment. We can highly recommend this place to everyone.
My boyfriend and I stayed at the apartment for one week in August. We really enjoyed it. It was much nicer than we expected and the owners were very friendly and helpful. The place is bright and sunny and comes with everything you need. We always enjoyed our morning coffee on the terrace with a beautiful view. The terrace is also perfect for romantic evenings and the night view is just as stunning. One week is not enough to see everything in this area. We will definitely come back and stay at the apartment again.
The residence is located in a charming small village of Magognino, only a few minutes from Stresa, the most popular town on Lake Maggiore. Away from the main road and the hustle and bustle of busy lakeside towns, the property enjoys a very peaceful setting, ideal for those seeking a quiet retreat after a long, busy day. The village center, about 200 meters away, features a small preschool with a playground, a church and a bus stop along the Stresa - Borgomanero line. Several local restaurants serving delicious meals are within a short walking distance (15 - 20 minutes). The property is surrounded by beautiful nature with many scenic walking trails to choose from. A wonderful golf course (open to the public) is only 2 km away and is a great destination for a morning cappuccino, lunch or a romantic dinner. For family fun, swimming pools, playgrounds, tennis courts and other sports facilities are within a few minutes drive.
