A spacious house with very easy access to the beach
The house is located just off the beach and nearby to local facilities in the lovely, quiet village of Porthtowan. It is just a short walk onto the beach which is very convenient. The house itself had plenty of room for a group of 9, with a large living room, reasonable sized kitchen and lots of space for all the kit associated with visits to the beach. There is a dining room table but this was relatively small and would only just fit 9 (and there are only 8 chairs). The main bedrooms were spacious and light; the kids rooms are small but cosy. The exterior of the house could do with some TLC.
Beautiful house at a lovely location!
Once you have overcome the steps you will be greated by a beautifull, spacious house, fully equipped with everything you could ever imagine!! It was very clean and well presented! My whole family + dogs loved it! The views were beautiful and located perfectly for other attractions around Cornwall! The car space was a small issue (as we had 4 cars), but we were able to park behind the Unicorn pub just down the hill which was ideal... we would definitely return!! Thank you for a lovely holiday 😊
Beautiful House lovely position by the beach
Fantastic week all the family enjoyed our stay; Self catering facilities good and property very clean. Children enjoyed the ball games and the trampoline. Porthtowan is a lovely village with lots of facilities.
Porthtowan is a large north west facing sandy cove flanked by steep cliffs, popular with surfers and families alike. It’s located a 10 minute drive off the A30, and a short drive from Truro and Newquay. It is situated within Cornwall’s UNESCO World Heritage Site and surrounded by land owned by the National Trust. The village itself has a general store selling all of your necessities plus good local produce. There are two surf shops where you can rent or buy equipment, a fish and chip shop, a café, an ice cream parlour and two pubs, both serving food all day and into the evening. For any other needs, there is a Tesco Extra in Redruth (15 minutes drive) and a Sainsbury’s Superstore in Truro (20 minutes drive). Things to do: Children’s play area – located between the property and the beach, next to the Unicorn Tavern, is a lovely children’s play area with swings, slides and a climbing frame. Great for kids of all ages. Swimming - This blue flag beach has lifeguards present throughout the season (1st May until the 30th September). It pays to wear a wet-suit most of the year! The beach also boasts a tidal pool which featured in the television programme 'Robson Green's Wild Swimming Adventure': after swimming in the pool he described the beach and pool as 'paradise'. Surfing – if you’ve never tried surfing before there are two surf schools in the village where you can rent boards and wetsuits and get lessons for reasonable prices for all ages. Boogie Boarding – we have several boogie boards for children to use, or you can rent or buy one from the local surf shop. Coastal walks - Much of the land surrounding Porthtowan is owned by the National Trust and the South West Way Coastal Path passes through the village. The cliff walks allow panoramic views to St Ives Bay in the south and St Agnes Head in the north. The surrounding cliff paths are some of the best in Cornwall, leading to Portreath to the south, and to Chapel Porth and St Agnes to the north. Chapel Porth can be reached by both the beach (tide conditions permitting) and the cliff path, and has a delightful National Trust café in the cove which is open for much of the year. Rock pooling – there are lots of rock pools accessible at low-tide for kids to explore. Horse riding – there are several riding schools within 20 minutes of Porthtowan with some of the best horse riding in Cornwall, including rides around the World Heritage site of the Mineral Tramways and Carn Brea Castle. Hacking can be arranged so suit every standard of rider and evening hacks are available by prior arrangement in the summer. Cycling - cycle across England in a day, by travelling along the scenic Coast to Coast trail! This trail runs for 11 miles from the lovely coastal village of Portreath to Devoran, alongside the stunning Restronguet Creek, and is almost entirely on purpose built cycle paths or quiet country lanes. The Bike Barn Cycle Hire is located a 5 minute drive away towards Redruth and offers a wide range of cycles for all ages. Historic mines - The iconic Wheal Coates tin mine buildings are located on the coast path to the north of the village which you can walk to. Poldark Mine is a fun day out for the kids. Take a tour of the mine and then pan for real gems! Golf – there are several golf courses within a short drive of Porthtowan, including Perranporth, Killiow Golf, Truro.
