Secluded 1.3 acre parcel with five acre nature preserve behind property and shelter from other neighboring properties. Unbelievable views from master bedroom, living/dining, and freestanding bunk house (with separate bath and coffee bar)all looking east to the sunrise, and moonlit nights to O'Neal Island just offshore. Bike ride to Roche Harbor or Westcott Bay (for oysters), sit on the deck with the propane firepit and watch the eagles swoop directly in front as they traverse the waterfront. You can keep an eye on your boat (or is that yacht?) moored at our new mooring bouy directly in front of our property.
Go whale-watching with Capt Jim Maya, or paddle out in a kayak to watch the Orcas in their native habitat. This is the place to just rest up, read, watch movies (three lcd televisions with DirecTV hook-up), sit in the new jacuzzi which faces the waterfront between the house and the bunk house. No neighbor noise. Just you and your family. Pets are okay, but extra charges apply to clean for the next family that may have allergies to our pets. Great local food market for home chefs and wonderful seafood restaurants for those on vacation from cooking. From the ferry ride to the island until you return this vacation is just very very special.
My wife Jeanne is the best 6th grade teacher in California (by state testings scores) and by the 80 to 100 parent requests every year, and I am a sole practitioner attorney in north San Diego County, California. We have one daughter Emily a grad of UW.
The Owner purchased this house in 2005
We visited this place in 1983 before we were married and always loved the ferries and the whales, and the island feel of relaxation. We decided a trade of a house on a manmade lake in san diego for an ocean front bungalow was a no-brainer! This is the "catbird seat" when it comes to great views.
The relaxation from sitting outside watching the water and the eagles fly overhead can only be explained by experiencing the pleasure. We assume those who come to visit will feel that as well.
This cabin was great for our clan! With 4 kids/young adults (aged 11-20) and a dog in tow, we headed up in our boat to explore the San Juans for the week. With the mooring buoy, hot tub, beautiful bathroom, bunkhouse and well-equipped kitchen we had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy. It was a perfect launching point to enjoy many islands by boat. The weather was beautiful so the shuffle from the buoy to the rocky shore and up the steep steps was a great adventure!
Our only struggle was that we couldn't moor our inflatable dinghy on shore so we ended up having one person paddle board in and out to fetch the dinghy.
We would definitely do it again by boat in the summer-if weather is inclement, it would be cozy and charming coming by car!
Thank you so much. We loved the house and the bungalow. I would not recommend it for people with small children but for my two teenagers, my adult son, girlfriend and husband it was perfect (plus our sweet dog). Such a relaxing location, awesome views and close to many of the islands attractions.
This house has a great location, with gorgeous views of the water. However, we were
bothered by the fact there was no bathroom downstairs where the master bedroom is.
The downstairs also had a mildew smell. I had expected to cook a lot on our trip, but
found the kitchen extremely small with very limited counter space. It lacks a few essential items, such as a salad bowl and small plates. No dishwasher.
Deck was nice, and detached casita with bath looked comfortable. Television and Wifi
My husband and I managed a quick 'away' for his 45th birthday and the Catbird was a perfect spot for us. Stunning sunrises, very quiet, comfortable inside, cozy jaccuzi AND we got to bring our pup. The owner and manager were very easy to work with. Great experience! Thank you!
We had a fabulous time at Catbird Bungalow! The views were amazing, especially sunrises! The bungalow was perfect for a relaxing family vacation together, hanging out in the jacuzzi, around the fire pit on the patio, walking down to the water to sit on rocks and enjoy the view! We built some great memories! Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Our family had a fantastic, unforgettable time during our stay at the Catbird Bungalow. Our party had 5 people; my husband and myself, our 16-year-old son, and our 12-year-old daughter and her friend. The Bungalow was absolutely perfect for our needs - the little girls LOVED the bunkhouse; our son had privacy in his room in the main house; and we loved the incredibly comfortable bed in the master suite - along with the deck and gorgeous views out to the water. One note - the master bedroom is open to the main floor of the house (i.e., the stairs downstairs to the master are open to the living room and there is no door closing off the master) - this wasn't a problem for us, but it's not apparent from the pictures.
The house was very well-appointed; the kitchen was great to cook in; excellent gas grill; main bathroom very luxurious. We all loved the hot tub!
But most of all - you can't beat the view off of the deck! We saw bald eagles, seals - and as an incredible highlight, a humpback whale and calf (named Big Mama and Split Fin). We learned later that it was about a 1 in a million chance that humpbacks would go into that cove - but they did, and we were lucky enough to see it! The kids all loved playing in the tide pools at low tide, finding sea stars, crabs and jellyfish. This was one of the best vacations we ever had!
