About Pierre Godret

This property has been in the Godret family for about 100 years. Our family has always been very involved in the community of this beautiful haven of peace that is Tournedos sur Seine. My great grandfather (15 years), grandfather (25 years) and uncle (3 years) have all been mayor of the town.

I am the fourth generation and will be your contact, but the whole family gives a hand to preserve this jewel!

Pierre Godret purchased this chateau / country house in 1920

Why Pierre Godret chose Eure

Come and you'll see ;)

What makes this chateau / country house unique

This house is as warm as she is beautiful, the rooms are large but comfortable, incredible beds and decoration out of time.

But for me, Pampou is the best place of peace and quiet in most of France. The large green park, the Seine, the swans ... the dream

Beautiful property of a bygone era. A time capsule! Well situated to visit many sites in neighboring villages. A relaxing stay, beds very comfortable, good outdoor space, owners helpful.

A tranquil stroll back in time with elegance and serenity

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful French Manoir provided a wonderfully spacious retreat for various members of our family to spend time together. As a group of 8, there were plentiful bedrooms to choose from and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is large and was a great place for us to gather and make meals. The oven is a gas oven, which did take us a few days to work out that we just had to light the small hole towards the front of the oven base/floor! However, otherwise, it was all straightforward to use. There is a really helpful, charming and friendly caretaker, Patrice, on site. He does only speak French, but we managed to communicate with our basic school French and hand signals! Pierre or his family were contactable too and they do speak English. This is an old and historic building and, as such, does have some areas in need of repair, but the general splendour of the house far outweighs this. It really is a place of curiosities and wonder, with surprising secret doors, quirky old furnishings and a myriad of places to play hide and seek. The gardens are extensive, with many tranquil areas to just rest and enjoy the wildlife ( red squirrels particularly) and there is a lovely walk along the river bank. The tennis court is excellent and there are a few tennis rackets and a badminton set on site. There were a couple of days when the gardening team were on site, but clearly with such large grounds they do have to spend time maintaining them. The general area is peaceful with lakes to visit and supermarkets accessible in the nearby local small towns, but be prepared for them being shut on a Sunday afternoon. Rouen is an absolutely beautiful medieval city with various attractions, so a must do whilst there! We had teenagers in our group who really enjoyed playing games in this large house and gardens, but were also relieved to have good wifi connection (even in some of the second floor rooms!) They also had a great day out at the Asterix theme park near Paris ( booking in advance is cheaper for groups). Remember to watch out for the toll sections on some of the motorways - the one near the house can be avoided by using junction 20 of the A13.

For me, personally, this beautiful house provided a serene respite from the hectic business of life & I was able to find considerable inspiration to start writing my next book. My partner who is a stonemason, sculptor & artist was equally inspired. We would happily return here one day, with even more family.

Old, cool, pretty....

Very old Chateau with some amazing Art pieces throughout. The grounds are amazing with mature trees and pretty gardens. The place is tired though. So much potential!

Beautiful grounds

  • 4 of 5

The chateau is set in beautiful grounds and overlooks a river. The chateau is very impressive from the outside. I stayed with my family of 12 and there was plenty of space for us all. We did feel that the top floor of the chateau has been neglected and does need a bit of work. There were stains on the carpet and ripped wallpaper. Generally the rest of the house has been kept to a higher standard. The oven was very dirty when we arrived so we couldn't use it. We were lucky with the weather so had lots of barbecues instead! We did have a great week here and enjoyed spending time in the many rooms on the ground floor and relaxing in the peaceful gardens.

Normandy retreat - with lots of space and peace at a chateau in Tournedos-sur-Seine

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I booked this large chateau for a month (August to September 2016) and then invited friends and family to pop over and visit us. We had a wonderful time and ended up with a total of 28 of us, plus one cocker spaniel, enjoying a stay of a few days to the whole four weeks.

The chateau is spacious and filled with all manner of intriguing pieces of furniture, pictures and very comfortable beds! On arrival the building looks stunning and you immediately want to wander around discovering all the nooks and crannies. Then you take in all the space outside - the gardens surrounding the chateau are large and splendid for finding areas to play, relax or just sit and reflect. Finally there is the Seine just at the bottom of the garden behind a gate - a great place to enjoy a gin and tonic at the end of the day. If lucky you may even catch a glimpse of a local bird or animal - including kingfishers and wild pigs!

The location is easily accessible - both for driving down from Calais or via train from Paris (about 70 minutes). Pierre and his mother are welcoming, helpful hosts and have a wealth of valuable ideas on what to do and where to go. Meanwhile Patrice, the caretaker, is at hand should you have any problems - all we needed was support with clearing numerous empty bottles of wine!

We were fortunate to be blessed with lots of sunshine which enabled us to get out and about lots - but the chateau is so spacious you could still find lots to do if wet weather prevails for a few days.

Highlights for ourselves included: cycling for fresh croissants and bread (and small sugared choux balls) from a local boulangerie at Le Vaudreuil; the large 50m outdoor pool at Louviers; bike rides to the Sunday market at Pont-de-l’Arche to buy fresh cooked hams, chickens, fruit and vegetables; the night time calls of owls; trips to Paris and Rouen; wake boarding at the local lake; many outdoor meals on the terrace; playing tennis at the chateau; and, finally, watching five wild pigs swimming in the Seine!

There are many places to visit and things to do - yet at the same time a sense of tranquility that you can't help but relax and unwind.

We all returned home rested and content - apart from Stella the cocker spaniel, who is displaying some signs of depression. We suspect she misses the number of different people, the long walks and vast amounts of space to run around and play!

Highly recommended - and thank you Pierre et al for sharing your family home.

Wonderful Chateau in Normandy on the Seine

  • 5 of 5

This chateau is a walk through history to a simpler time. My family and I stayed here while visiting Normandy last summer. We could not have been more pleased with the bucolic grounds, the gracious hosts, the magnificent area or the comfortable home. The house itself rambles on with plenty of space. Our guests marveled at the history of the place, wandering through each room as if in a museum. Paris is very close and we were often there looking for a parking spot within an hour. The region is incredible and the chateau is a short trip to Rouen and around an hour to the coast. We could not have been more well received by our host Pierre and his lovely mother. They made our stay very comfortable and had excellent suggestions for touring nearby villages and attractions. Inspired by our enchanting stay here we have decided to restore a chateau in the Champagne region- or we would be booking this lovely home for the coming summer! Merci Beaucoup Pierre!! All the best!!

We are very close to the 'Castle Vascoeuil "which organizes numerous art exhibitions throughout the year.

The city of Louviers (15mn Pampou) is famous for its beautiful church. On Saturday there is a big market in the city center.

It is also very easy to visit the Claude Monet's famous garden in Giverny (about 40 minutes from Pampou).

Rouen, 30 minutes, is the city of Normandy to visit. The magnificent cathedral, the wonderful art museum, all the little streets with many shops, restaurants, cafes, etc ...

The landing beaches are about 1h30 from Paris and 1h15 Pampou by the A13 motorway.
