About Douglas Jones

Your hosts - Doug Jones & Fiona Richards!

Doug - I'm a professional illustrator for clients such as the New York Times, Rolling Stone Magazine, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal etc. I also did all of the finish carpentry that you see in the loft.

Fiona - I was born and raised in Scotland - I'm the CEO of Cartolina, a retail and wholesale paper and gift company. Our award winning retail store is on the main floor of the building, below the loft - we hope you'll pop in and say hi - we love meeting our guests and are happy to provide local information. We have lived in Nelson for over 20 years.

What makes this guest house unique

A unique opportunity to stay in one of Nelson's oldest historic buildings. Built in 1891 as the Tremont Hotel during the early days of a silver and gold mining rush to the area. Great care was taken to maintain a historic feel, while providing all the modern amenities that travellers hope for. Beautiful refinished fir floors, tongue & groove ceilings, marble and granite counters, stainless steel appliances, including a 6 burner professional range. The loft has state of the art heating and air conditioning, as well as a mechanical ventilation system to provide fresh air into the loft 24hrs a day. The gas fireplace will immediately warm you up on cold winter days after skiing. Historic photographs line the walls of the private mini bar- and give you a glimpse of what the building and Nelson looked like in the 1890's. The rooftop courtyard is completely private - no one can see in - a great place for catching some sun, or sitting in the evening with a drink.

We also have private off street parking available for guests at the rear of the building. King size beds in both bedrooms with 800 thread count sheets, lots of pillows, bedside tables, alarm clocks etc. Iron, ironing board, hair dryers, and all the dishes, glasses and cooking utensils you might need.

Exquisite property and location.

  • 5 of 5

The loft is beautifully renovated, incorporating modern and historical elements. Well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Great private patio. Very quiet. Lots of stairs so if you have mobility challenges that may be a limitation. One of the best VRBO stays we have had. Thanks Doug and Fiona!

Absolutely the best!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our three night stay at The Tremont Loft! The interior is beautiful eccentricity manifested. The high ceilings and very large great room are both inspiring and restful. Brick walls and marble, handmade tables and shelves, intricate tile work and decorative wood finishes give the loft its flawless personality.

The beds are so comfortable we slept from night to morning without waking. The bathrooms, patio, media room, even the closets, are fresh and so well thought out.

I would've stayed in the loft all day long, but I had shopping to do ...in the loft owner's beautiful store downstairs, Cartolina. It's a wonderland of artful novelty.

I had the best time in Nelson, BC and hope to return soon. Thank you Fiona and Doug for your fabulous place!
