|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
Tradewinds is a quiet, peaceful, private two bedroom cottage perched above John's Folly Bay in the scenic, quiet southeastern corner of St. John. In contrast to many cottages in St. John, we are easily accessible from a paved - yes paved - road. No scary gravelly mountain inclines to traverse to get to Tradewinds! Available as either a one or two bedroom bungalow, Tradewinds can accommodate 2 - 4 guests. If it's just two of you, the downstairs bedroom is locked and unoccupied for the week. If you'd like more room, the downstairs bedroom and bath can be made available to accommodate a total of 4 guests for an additional $400 per week.
A 45 minute drive from Cruz Bay (ferry arrival point), we are five minutes past Coral Bay, a one minute drive to Salt Pond Beach and Ram's Head. Tradewinds features beautiful sunrises from the large deck and the gentle melody of waves on the beach below.
This charming wooden cottage features light, airy rooms with stunning ocean views throughout. The deck commands a panoramic view of the British Virgin Islands, and a southeastern exposure offers breathtaking sunrises - if you're up that early! Steady tradewinds keep the house cool on hot days and ensure bug-free evenings.
Tradewinds can be rented as either a one-bedroom or two-bedroom unit. Renting as a 1BR grants access to the upper level featuring a kitchen/living room/eating area, bedroom, and bathroom. The downstairs area will be locked up, you'll have the whole cottage to yourself.
Or, for more space, rent Tradewinds as a 2BR cottage (an additional $400 per week) granting you access to both the upper and lower levels - one bedroom and bathroom on each level. The lower level, accessed by an enclosed outside stairway, features a beautiful bedroom with a private balcony and a bathroom with ocean views. This configuration is designed for maximum privacy between two bedrooms - each with its own private bath. This set-up is NOT good for small children, as bedrooms are far apart and access between levels is via a covered outside stairway. The choice is yours, one bedroom or two!
There are a few other houses on our hillside, ensuring complete privacy in our cottage, with a few houses nearby in case one wanted to wave hello to our neighbors.

Doug and I are a GREAT team... he can design or build just about anything, and I'm a good assistant, with my own tool belt! I'm also a master gardener, and pretty good with a paint brush!
Lois Wood purchased this cottage in 1999
Twenty-one years ago my husband Doug and I visited the island and fell in love with the place. We purchased this cottage – in need of more than a little TLC – in 1999, renovated it and have been renting it ever since. Every year at the beginning of the season we spend two weeks in St. John opening the cottage and making sure every inch is sparkling clean and in perfect working order. Then, our property management company, Cimmaron, comes in every week and inspects everything, cleans until every detail is sparkling, and fixes anything that might need a repair!
Our guests tell us that this place feels like HOME the minute you walk in. Wake up to the sound of the waves below, watch the sunrise from your bed, go out on the deck for coffee, then go off to the beach all day. When you come home at night, have a few beverages on the deck, listen to reggae on the sound system, and enjoy your little tropical paradise escape.
This rental is the best value on the Island! Its clean, nicely decorated, comfortable and inviting, peaceful, tranquil, relaxing, with gorgeous views. You will love this charming vacation home in Paradise. The owners have stocked this home with everything you could possibly need to make your stay memorable and enjoyable, you will want to come back again and again.
One review cannot cover the great things that can be said about this property. We were concerned about what we would find since we had never been to St. John and didn't know the place we were renting. First, you won't find a friendlier or more helpful owner. Lois made us feel completely welcome throughout the process of choosing her home. The place was everything she claimed and more. We were secluded, totally at ease, and completely comfortable. Being southerners we are used to air conditioning and thought we would be too warm at night. Not the case at all, as the numerous windows let through the greatest constant breezes imaginable. The peaceful nights were among the best times of all. No noise except surf and breeze (and an occasional night bird). The house is beautifully constructed with great woods and design. Furniture and decor are perfect. The many watercolors on the walls give such an artistic and classy feeling, we felt like jet setters. Lois and Doug have left an amazing music collection that spans numerous moods and genres. You won't have nearly enough time to enjoy it all. The sound system was great, and higher volumes didn't disturb the neighbors. Just a super romantic setting in every way. The east end of the island is exactly what we hoped for, quiet and sparsely populated with the most spectacular sunrises I've ever witnessed. Be sure to do Miss Lucy's Sunday morning brunch, our personal highlight. Get there 30 minutes early to secure a waterside table. The food was the best of the week, and the flawless jazz combo set the greatest vibe. Be prepared for awesome curvy roads and too many gorgeous beaches to even go into. Let this island work its magic on you. Let this home be your destination. You will not be disappointed. Thanks, Lois and Doug, for giving us such a wonderful memory. We'll be back!
This was our 2nd year staying at Tradewinds Cottage and it was even better than our 1st. When we walked through the door we felt like we had returned home to our dream vacation home. Tradewinds is neither fancy nor glamorous. What it is is an impeccably immaculate and cozy cottage with an unbelievable view of the Caribbean and wonderful breezes constantly filling the cottage (hence the name!).
Lois & Doug have provided every possible amenity for making a stay comfortable and easy. The kitchen is completely equipped, as are the support items for enjoying the many beautiful beaches and hiking trails. But the most wonderful aspect of the cottage is the stunning deck. Sitting there to watch the sun or the moon rise or to gaze at the stars makes one truly appreciate the beauties of our world. We cannot wait for our next vacation at Tradewinds Cottage.
We loved absolutely everything about our stay at Tradewinds cottage - except of course leaving. The view with the sea below and the stars above, the location near Salt Pond Bay and Coral Bay, the open floor plan and all the amenities we ever needed... Two couples stay here and loved the separate quarters downstairs just as lovely as the upstairs area. Views from every room were stupendous - even from the showers! Cannot wait to return. Highly recommended. Don't miss dinner at Miss Lucy's and Ekaete's Pink Corner nearby.
This was our second stay and we loved it even more! Cottage was immaculate, beautiful views off the deck and all amenities you could ask for! Our coffe pot was broken and the managers came right over on Sunday with a replacement! Highly would recommend to anyone looking for a great vacation in the midst of paradise!
Lois and Doug,
Thank you for such an amazing place! This was our first trip to STJ and Tradewinds cottage was perfect! Spacious, inviting, clean...tastefully decorated down to the last detail. Our two teenagers enjoyed having their own space on the lower level. The views from the deck were mesmerizing. We enjoyed Salt Pond Bay (saw sea turtle and ray) and Little Lameshur Beach (nice sugar mill ruins) as well as a hike up Ram Head. Great food at Skinny Legs and Tourist Trap. Had a wonderful sail/snorkel trip with Virgin Magic Charters out of Coral Bay.
We would highly recommend this place to anyone.
We had an amazing stay! The place was gorgeous and the location was perfect! It was easy to find and still very private. Getting back and forth across the island was not a problem and we liked having the quiet place in the evenings. We did the full moon hike of Rams head trail which was about 5 minutes away and it was great! Can't wait to come back!
This is the quietest part of the island, surrounded by national park, and only five minutes to local restaurants and bars and shops! You can also walk to either a fun bar or a gourmet restaurant! Or both! :-)
