Un-Fore-Gettable is unbelievable! Located high, very high, atop Screamer Mountain in the charming, busy, small town of Clayton, in scenic north Georgia, this whimsical vacation getaway cabin is one you’ll return to again and again.
The breathtaking drive up the mountain is the first indication that you are going someplace special. Un-Fore-Gettable is conveniently secluded; easy to get to, but so quiet and peaceful, you won’t believe town is five minutes away.
On your approach to the driveway, a hand-painted, carved wooden sign will make it easy to recognize that you’ve arrived. The drive itself is new gravel, easy to maneuver as you walk past the open-air hot tub (great place to watch for shooting stars at night) to unlock the door and begin to unwind from the stress of everyday life.
Of course, first you should rush to the floor to ceiling windows in the vaulted great room to attempt to take in the view! I say attempt because the view is so vast and so wide that you could look at it for months and never absorb all the beauty before you.
Step out onto the full length deck that’s almost completely surrounded by fresh air and gaze at the beauty above and below. At Un-Fore-Gettable, you are seemingly 'above' the horizon, as if you are on top of the world! Spread out below the cabin is the intricate green patchwork of Kingwood Golf and Country Club, and if you feel like a round of golf, you can see the cabin from the course.
Back inside, the cabin is furnished with eclectic, up-to-date decor depicting all the activities you might do while you visit! The Golf Bedroom is filled with golf themed decorations and whimsy, or you could choose the Fishing Room or the Bear Room (some say they’ve seen a peaceful black bear eating berries down the hill from the house). Beside the floor to ceiling rock fireplace, a playful stuffed black bear stands guard over his home, but will pose for pictures for a scratch on the back.
The kitchen is fully stocked with appropriate cookware if you should choose to take your meals in rather than enjoy one of the many local restaurants. Yes, there’s a blender too! Along with the microwave and coffee maker! There are even extra quilts to wrap up in while you rock on the deck and stare at the first star between the mountains across the way.
Un-Fore-Gettable has what you need: peace and quiet, plenty of breathing room inside and out, a bustling town just down below for good food and great shopping, golf, fishing in trophy streams nearby, hiking, even some on the Appalachian Trail if you want to say you’ve at least set foot on it!, white water rafting or tubing in the summers, and hot tubs and a bear in a Santa hat in the winter! And the view, everywhere the incredible view! When you leave Un-Fore-Gettable, you’ll already be looking forward to the next time you come and visit us!
We are a family with growing teenagers who love the cabin as much as we do. It is a great place to bring guests and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005
We wanted a vacation home that is close to town so you can enjoy the local treats and not have to drive 30 minutes. But we also wanted the privacy of 2 acres on top of a mountain
If you love fresh air and cooler temps then give us a try.
Rented for a quick weekend 2 night stay- two families- 9 people. We felt it was adequate for our needs. Cabin was in pretty good shape -some things updated, some things showing its age. Beautiful views the best part. Lacking in some larger utensils, sheets for fold out couches, towels(only two bath towels), trash bags, hairdryer, etc. Very minimal provisions. Just come prepared with what you need. The place we were supposed to take our trash was closed(Sunday). This needs to be better thought out. Loved being able to bring our dogs and they loved it too.
We had a group of 9 adults head up to the cabin for New Year's Eve. The cabin was nicely decorated and cozy, and of course the view from the balcony was amazing. Upon arrival, I was a little disappointed in the cleanliness of the cabin (had to do some dishes, wipe down surfaces, and make our beds with questionably clean sheets), but it was good to go after about an hour of light cleaning from 3-4 of us. Overall, the owner was very helpful and responsive and we had a great New Year's Eve in the mountains. I do recommend this cabin, just don't expect for it to be spotless like a hotel.
We were 2 families of 11. The cabin was spacious enough for all of us. The views are amazing and we are looking forward in coming back soon!
We were shocked at the height of the cabin. It's way up there. The cabin was everything we needed and a very relaxing place. The owners have been upgrading the deck area with new railing and balusters and we felt safe up there and wanted to spend hours looking across the mountains. The kitchen and rooms were setup nicely and we wanted for nothing while there. The driveway is paved and while steep, easy to manage. We are on a mountain after all. The satellite equipment was out during our stay, but it wasnt the owners fault, and it turned out to be the best thing that could've happened in the end because we played games and socialized more. The owner did her very best to get the satellite fixed and offered compensation. I did get a feeling that some things could stand to get upgraded soon, but don't hesitate to rent here if you need a place near Clayton.
We shared some of the problems we had with this rental to the owner, who did give us a refund. She was pleasant enough to work with, so this is not a personal issue. I write to let others know the facts about this rental, so if they choose to rent they will do so with full understanding, and can contact the owner if they have any concerns about these issues.
The pictures are VERY outdated. Had the pictures been true to the present state of this house and property, we would never had rented it, nor experienced the great disappointment of what was supposed to be a special vacation. We tried to make the best of the situation, but it was so intolerable that we decided to leave early.
-The porch (25+ft above ground)is not as pictured, but is now covered in flaking paint, and the boards, railings, and pillars are splitting and warped. The hammock is also old, as is the grill which is full of rust and paint flakes.
-Unlike the pictures, the stone steps are covered with leaves, and have some branches growing into the path. The little lights that are supposed to make the pathways safe are mostly dead… I counted 36 path lights, and only 11 work here and there.
-The floodlights do not work, so we had to walk our dogs in the dark (with very little ground to use before a steep downhill, and that ground was filled with tall weeds and poison ivy).
-At least in summer, the house has a strong musty odor, and the laundry room in the separate shed smells outright moldy.
-4 inches from the front door, there is a stone ledge that drops about a foot and then there is an old wooden staircase. It would be very easy to slip, and there desperately needs to be a gate in front of this staircase to prevent an accident.
-The property is junky. Piles of lumber, weeds taking over, a broken chair, and a cemetery of dead path lights. The laundry shed, too, is full of junk. The hot tub was dirty. Living room windows are dirty and the large blind is broken.
-The large TV shown kept shutting off after several minutes.
-Dirty carpet (now a brown shag, not light colored as in pictures). I know this because I swept up a lot of dirt trying to stop the flea bites.
-Black ants in the upstairs bathroom, fleas in the carpet (not from our dogs on frontline), and dead roaches under the sofa cushions.
Highlights:good view, A/C, quiet neighborhood
Again, this house has a beautiful view and has potential, and I hope that these issues are fixed to make it the wonderful rental that it could be!
Our stay was GREAT. There was a lot of nice CLEAN space for our family. The view was wonderful and it was a nice and relaxing location. We will be going back!!!
