About Suzanna Clarke
My husband and I are writers and love French food, wine, architecture and culture. It is a joy to be able to live for a few weeks a year in Bordeaux. When we are not there, we are happy to be able to share this experience with others.
Suzanna Clarke purchased this Apartment in 2012
Why Suzanna Clarke chose Downtown
For centuries those who could afford it chose to live near the beautiful Bordeaux Public Gardens and this elegant apartment reflects that tradition. While the gardens are virtually on the doorstep, at the other end of the street are the restaurants, art galleries, boutiques and many other shops in the Rue Fondaudege. You can walk into the center of Bordeaux in just a few minutes.
What makes this Apartment unique
Bordeaux City Gardens is unusually large for a one bedroom apartment and the high ceilings and quality finishes are complemented by the contemporary decor. If you feel like eating alfresco, the patio is right outside the kitchen and bedroom.

was Very disappointed
This place needs to be cleaned , they need to get rid of the uncleanable carpet. Replace the nonstick frypans. new towels. Clean the dryer filters . All I could say is it needs a big update.
The only thing nice about it was the manager Charlotte. I’ll never go back.
I have had homes in Mexico for 13 years that I rent so I am aware of what is excaptble , what is great and what is bad.
We appreciate and value feedback from guests to help us maintain a high standard and give guests what they need. However, I find it astonishing that this guest, Marie, could not find a single positive thing about Bordeaux City Gardens apartment - the close proximity to the gardens or to shops; the unusual spaciousness for a one bedroom apartment, the pleasant courtyard, or the luxury features and fittings.
The very next guests gave Bordeaux City Gardens apartment the following review on another website beginning with "A". “Beautifully fitted out apartment a short walk from Bordeaux next to the Jardin Public. Great amenities, very clean, stylish and spacious. Suzanna was very helpful throughout providing recommendations for our great stay in Bordeaux!”
Back to the unhappy guest: from first entering the apartment, Marie told of us of a number of things she did not like, and we did our best to make changes to her satisfaction. She told us the rug was "dirty", so we removed it. (In fact it looked like variations in the pile creating different tones.). She pointed out that a couple of pots and pans in the kitchen had some scratches, and said that all the kitchen equipment should be changed yearly.
Early during her stay, our property manager went in with the cleaner to do a special cleaning session at our expense, with a particular emphasis on the dryer filter, and anything else not to the guest's liking.
We also took Marie's concerns on board, and have replaced most of the kitchen equipment; any towels which might be even slightly worn and purchased a new rug.
Marie told our property manager that she had decided to leave early for work reasons, and was concerned the train strike might delay her departure. I then received a demand for a refund, and a threat to write a bad review of the apartment if she didn't receive it. I did give her a partial refund. But perhaps it wasn't as much as she had hoped for.
Loved it was great location. Safe area and owner respond to any emergency swiftly
This a first class apartment with everything you need for a wonderful visit to Bordeaux. No need for a car
We have stayed at Home Away and VRBO properties in France, Italy, Spain and England for 25 years - alone, with our children, and with them and their children - so we've learned a bit about selecting really fine houses and apartments to rent. When we walked into this apartment, however, we were stunned at its quality. From flatware to furniture, kitchen knives to closets, art on the walls to a kitchen which includes a built in espresso machine and a wine cooler. It is all very clean, appears to be very recently renovated with no compromises made, and everything works. Honestly, it is similar to a fine hotel room but about eight times the size and just steps from an entrance to the Bordeaux's favorite city park which includes a cafe and a serpentine lake. Think a glass of wine as children play or watch a puppet show, or a teenage Shakespeare troop and tango dancing couples practicing on the belvedere. If you've done these rentals before you will understand how that first trip to the grocery requires heavy bags and equally heavy expense. Not here. The kitchen is completely stocked with fine condiments, oils, spices and herbs - most likely nuts and cookies and ice cream, too - and that first trip will require nothing more than your dinner for the night. Even with hip problems, we could walk everywhere in the city, and we did. And then there is the property manager, Charlotte, simply the best of the best. Along with a seven bedroom villa outside Siena rented for our whole family (since purchased by a film producer, taken off the market, renovated and featured in Architectural Digest), this apartment ranks at the very top of our list. Stop looking; rent it.

Great Apartment in Bordeaux
Beautifully appointed apartment in a convenient location in Bordeaux. Great amenities, quiet, secure and close to shopping, restaurants and the old town. We would definitely rent here again and look forward to the tram work being completed soon!!
a beautiful apartment, first class.
this is one of the best apartments we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. apart from being a beautiful old building in a desirable location, it has been tastefully renovated to a very high level. everything you could possibly need is there, home from home and very clean.
everyone we dealt with were very poilte and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.
bordeaux is a beautiful city and cycling around it is one of the best ways to see everything. loved the wine! loved the food! and the sun shone!
Bordeaux's famous Jardin Public is at the end of the street where the apartment is located. An area of 10 hectares, this delightful public garden was established in 1746 in a style inspired by Le Nôtre, the designer of the gardens at Versailles. It includes an arboretum, a library and a Natural History Museum and is a wonderful place to cycle or simply relax and enjoy the ambiance. The apartment is just a few minutes' walk from the commercial and historic district of the city - only 600 metres from Esplanade des Quinconces. (Which has an excellent brocante market.) It is also close to the Roman amphitheatre Palais Gallien. A multitude of excellent restaurants and bars are in in close proximity on Rue Fondaudege and Cours George Clemenceau, as well as antique shops, art galleries and other high street shops. The specialist food market and a choice of many other shops can be found at Marche des Grands Hommes. The elegant boutiques on Allee de Tourny and Rue Saint Catherine are nearby, as is Bordeaux's renowned Grand Theatre. Walk through the Public Gardens to the Contemporary Art Museum, the river and the quai and its restaurants, shopping and morning food markets, the antique and vintage shops of Rue Notre Dame and the Marche des Chartrons.
