Villa Anna, tranquil countryside between Rome & Naples with stunning views

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,506 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, veranda

Villa Anna, in the village of Pietrafitta, is in the south-east corner of Lazio, close to Abruzzo, Molise and Campania. Tranquil and off the beaten track, it stands in an elevated position in its own grounds of half an acre, with fruit trees, flowering shrubs and even palm trees. Villa Anna has a broad veranda with splendid views of towering mountains, fields and valleys. It has a comfortable sitting room with an open fire, a dining room, a fully equipped kitchen and table, a spacious master bedroom with en-suite shower room, a second double bedroom and a bathroom, all on the main floor. For larger groups, the spacious attic has beds for four, a shower, and two balconies. The lovely shady veranda at the front of the house is perfect for alfresco dining or relaxing.

Pietrafitta's shop & cafe are a short walk from the Villa. A few minutes' drive away are several towns with a wide range of facilities.

Rome's airports are under 2 hours away by car & Naples Airport is approx 1.5 hours. Trains are available from Rome to Casino 20 min away.

As all the principal guest accommodation is on one level, this villa is comfortable for the infirm. There are three steps up to the front door.

Swimming Pools

There are three pools within a mile or so. We have been to two recently, both excellent.

One at GreenPark Hotel Tullio is immaculately clean, (the hotel is now owned by a pharmacist) has sparkling clear water, a magnificent backdrop of mountains, a shady end for when you want to be in the water, but not in the sun, a retractable awning for all year swimming, good changing rooms, showers and toilets, and a snack bar. As it is next to the hotel, you can pop in there for lunch. It has a large children's pool, 60 cms deep as well as the main, 25m pool. It is off the main road, on the way to the villa, It charges 10€ per person for the full day 8€ after 2 PM, children under 12 - 8€ per day, 3€ after 2.

The other is called AquaPark. As it is on the main road, it is busier. It has a much bigger area of sun loungers. Its children's pool is slightly deeper and it also has a fun pool with slides, fountains etc. There is a snack bar, but other facilities are not quite so convenient as at GreenPark. Charges are similar but children under 10 are 6€ in the afternoon.

With small children in tow, it may be preferable not to have a pool at your villa. These provide an economical alternative.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a lovely week in Pietrafitta and the surrounding area. We loved staying at Villa Anna and it was an excellent base for exploring the neighbourhood. We particularly liked Settefratti and San Donato, where we ate at La Vecchia Cantina del Saport, and a very small trattoria in Gallinaro, where we enjoyed excellent local food.

We should very much like to return for another holiday in the future so we can explore the area further.

Thank you for the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful, peaceful and unspoilt area.

Magnifique Villa

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: Thank you very much indeed! For English speakers, here is a translation: (We had) a marvellous, two week stay in this lovely villa. It was spacious, well presented and well laid out. (It had) a large enclosed garden furnished with trees. The views of the encircling mountains were beautiful and the area was peaceful. (It was) a few minutes by car from shopping and (from open air) swimming pools (with sun loungers and snack bars) that were very welcome in the summer. The host was charming and helpful. A rental to recommend.

The villa is situated between Rome and Naples, at the foot of the Appenine mountains, in the tranquill Val di Comino. It is away from tourist bustle and is ideal for a relaxing holiday. There is plenty to do in the area and good restaurants and shops nearby. There are three excellent pools a few minutes away.

The Villa is an excellent base for a walking holiday. The Abruzzi National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty, set high in the Apennines. One of the biggest national parks in Europe, its dramatic landscape includes isolated villages and resorts, beech and pine forests, flower filled alpine meadows, rocky mountain peaks and sparkling lakes. Wildlife includes chamois, eagles, bears and wolves. Visit picturesque Opi, Pescaseroli or Castel del Sangro. Go on a guided walk or get a map from the Park offices and explore it yourself.

Natural wonders include the Pastena caves, with amazing stalagmites, stalactites and colonies of bats, the falls of the river Liri and Lake Fibreno a bird sanctuary with a floating island.

For broad sandy beaches go to Gaeta or Scauri well established family resorts about an hour away. A trip up the coast to the resort of Sperlonga offers the opportunity for a brief stop at Hadrian's seaside villa where wonderful statues, found smashed in the fish ponds, have been pieced together and housed in a small museum.

The Abbey at Monte Cassino was completely rebuilt, just as it was, after destruction during World War II and is one of Italy's oldest shrines. There are also another 6 ancient abbeys and 6 castles in the valley. Caserta with its splendid palace and gardens, Naples, Herculaneum and Pompeii are 1.5 to 2 hours drive away.

Nearby towns include Settefrati, San Donato, Atina, Villa Latina, Picinisco, San Biagio, Casalvieri, Casalattico, Alvito and Vicalvi.

There are 3 airports you can fly into, Rome's main airport, Fiumicino, 194k; Ciampino, 160k; and Naples 126k.

There are train stations at Cassino (main line) 32k & Sora (branch line) 31k.
