We were immediately impressed by the gite - a real home from home and more. The attention to detail and the finishing touches reflected how the owners, Rosie and Richard, had thought of everything to make our stay as happy and comfortable as possible. From the beautiful bedrooms with their high quality bedlinen to the well-equipped kitchen and the airy, spacious rooms in which to relax, we felt spoilt. Outside the gite was equally spacious, providing a number of areas in which to unwind. The garden was well-landscaped with a pristine pool and another well-equipped kitchen/bbq area for alfresco dining. With so much to see and do in the area, we would definitely come back.
Marseillan, is a tiny village situated in beautiful rural Gascony. The house stands alone with amazing views of the rolling country side famous for, Foie gras sun flowers & Armangnac.
A close friend once quoted if you where to drop from the sky you would not want to leave as you would never find such a perfect setting to relax in the sunshine and enjoy a glass of local wine.
There is no shortage of things to do and see in the Gers. There are weekly markets in at least one town nearby every single day of the week where fresh produce from the local farms is freely available as well as local wines, Armagnac and its 2 derivatives Pousse Rapiere and Floc de Gascogne (Armagnac mixed with fresh grape juice). For the more energetic there are very nice golf courses nearby and many lakes where you can enjoy water skiing, sailing, windsurfing and fishing. One such is situated at Mielan just 5 minutes away; here there are also canoes and pedaloes for hire, a fine sandy beach affording access to bathing and a very nice restaurant. The beautiful countryside is perfect for walking, biking and running.
Marciac also has a lake but is best known for its world renowned jazz festival with 2/3 weeks of superb concerts and performances from some of the worlds finest jazz musicians in August. For the more classically minded the beautiful town of St Bertrand de Comminges is host to classical music concerts throughout the months of July and August. There is also the Country and Western Festival mid July in Mirande and various other music festivals in Auch, Condom,Fleurance and Vic Fezensac during the period June – September each year.
You can visit the world famous pilgrimage site of Lourdes, just 60 minutes away or not much further on take the cable car up the Pic du Midi, the highest peak in the Pyrenees. There is also the scenic train journey through the mountains on “Le Petit Train D’Artouste”.
