A bright and spacious flat situated in the heart of London, within a short walking distance of all the main attractions, including Oxford Street, the Theatre District and Covent Garden. Accommodating up to 4 people comfortably, you could not ask for a better location from which to discover the Capital.
Red Lion Apartment is a brand new, spacious and contemporary apartment in Bloomsbury, just a few minutes walk from Holborn tube station. It has 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large lounge with dining table and chairs. The area is notable for its array of garden squares and numerous academic institutions including University of London and University College London. Covent Garden with The Royal Opera House, its many theatres and popular street entertainers are close by as well as Oxford Street in the West End.
The apartment is exactly as pictured, clean, simple and bright. Reliable internet and a washer/ dryer in the apartment were a nice bonus. We were four people for a week and the housekeeping service came twice which was adequate. The location is exceptionally convenient. The Picadilly and Central line are a short walk away and the neighborhood is well served by busses. There are restaurants and food shops closeby. The kitchen is quite minimally equipped which could be a problem if you plan to cook. Communication with the manager was prompt and friendly.
Let's get the negatives out of the way first: given the cost of this apartment - remember, you need to add the 20% VAT to the quoted price - we expected more. When we arrived, we found that the mechanism for one of the street-facing windows was broken, making it impossible to close. As a result, our first night in the apartment, a Friday, was very noisy. In addition, several of the lightbulbs were burned out and the seal on the shower-head in the (very) small shower stall ( if you weigh more than 160 lbs. forget using it ) was broken, causing water to spray out in all directions, floor, the walls etc. Solution: get in first & close the doors, but only if one is willing to endure a half minute or so of icy water. Once brought to the property managers attention, she did the same day have the window repaired sufficiently for it to close and have the bulbs replaced, however, the shower-head issue, never was addressed in the nine days of our stay. The furnishings are inexpensive - one might even say "cheap" - don't be fooled by the appearance of the chair & sofa on the website - they have been either recovered or replaced with far less attractive items. The overall finish is "minimal" although the stove, oven, washer/dryer and dishwasher are high quality & work well. The kick-board beneath the refrigerator didn't fit properly and kept falling out. The smoke alarm is located in the kitchen area and frying anything seems to set it off. 1 drawer in the dresser in 1 of the bedrooms had become unattached from its track hardware and could not be fully closed
On the positive side, for those wishing to see the main sites of central London the location is excellent, almost everything being within a maximum 30 minute walk. Coming from Heathrow airport by Tube ( Piccadilly Line ) Holborn station is a 3 or 4 minute walk - no problem even with 2 large suitcases. There are many excellent shops a few minutes away, including groceries and a variety of restaurants almost right outside the door.
The apartment is on the second floor and very secure. The WiFi works well & is fast. The mattresses are good, as are the linens. Apart from the aforementioned first night, when we were kept awake by street noise, we slept well. The every 3 or 4-day maid service was much appreciated, as were the small food contributions: milk, cereal, Nespresso, tea, jams etc.
The apartment is great. Two good bedrooms. The bathrooms are also good. We missed a shower in one of them. Just the bath is not that confortable.
Towels and sheets were clean, but during the seven days we stayed there they sent the cleaners just two times, so we had to keep it cleaned.
The location is perfect.
The apartment's rental seems to be managed through a local company so we did not meet the owner but they served us well.
