A delightful summer family cottage on a large lot with 105' of private sandy beach. The house is fully furnished on two levels, and has a full length 3 season front porch. Two decks including one off the master bedroom and a huge wrap-around porch. Features a six person hot tub in a cedar gazebo and beachfront tree fort for the kids and tire swing! You will also enjoy our beachfront deck that comes with a fire pit. The kitchen was increased in size recently with new countertops and the addition of a dishwasher.
There is an apartment over the garage providing an additional bedroom and bath. The apartment has its own lake view balacony and provides privacy for a couple staying with a famiy in the main house.
We are located within The Manistee National Forest: The cottage is located in the Manistee National Forest and on our lake over half of the lake frontage is undeveloped Federal land. There are hundreds of miles of ATV, hiking, and cross country biking trails from the front door of the cottage.
Michigan's Adventure : The states largest amusement and water park is 10 minutes away. Now owned by Cedar Point, the park features many roller coasters and water rides. Great fun!
Lake Michigan Access: Its a 20 minute ride to Lake Michigan beaches at either Muskegon or Duck Lake State Park. Both Muskegon and Whitehall have large, free public beaches, breakwalls hike on and lighthouses to tour. The resort towns of Grand Haven, Pentwater, and Silver beach are a short drive.
The apartment is ideal for a family vacationing with parents or another couple. It provides some privacy and seperation with an additional bath, kitchen, bedroom, lkiving area, and balacony. The apartment is fully furnished and finished in an 'up north' hunting lodge style, lots of knotty pine, log beds, hickory kitchen cabinets, etc. Photos will be posted as we complete construction this spring. Please be aware that there is a flight of stairs required to gain entry.
I love the area. The lake was wonderful. It was quiet and secluded away from any noise. We basically had the lake to ourselves. The property was well equipped with plenty of boats and life jackets for the kids. The house itself is very charming and has a lot of potential. However, it did not appear that much care went into preparing for our stay. For example, there was dirt and dust everywhere. The dining room table was set with nice dishes, however, there was a layer of dirt and dust and dead bugs on them. The screened in patio had a table and chairs that looked like it hadn't been wiped off in a very long time. I had to do some cleaning before we felt comfortable using the dishes. The kitchen counters were dirty and sticky. The dishwasher did not work and we never got to use the hot tub because it was leaking. Some of the windows were not functional and were held open with pieces of wood. In spite of all this, we really did enjoy our stay. I just wish the owners had spent a bit more time focusing on cleanliness before we got there.
Our grown children arrived at the cottage 2 days before we did. During that time they had a "family" meeting and agreed to make Nick & Boo cottage our forever Labor Day family vacation spot. We fished, we swam, we floated, we relaxed. The cottage is a typical lakefront cottage, clean, inviting and nicely furnished. We thoroughly enjoy the area and can't say enough about the wonderful home. The owners went out of their way to ensure a great stay. Would definitely recommend this vacation spot.
This was our fourth year back in Muskegon and just like every other year ... we had a wonderful time! Bruce made some nice improvements to the cottage, the upstairs apartment was perfect for some quiet time for our daughter and family with little ones and as always, the location of the cottage cannot be beat! your own private beach .. a pier for fishing .. boats to enjoy the lake .. what a wonderful stay! Thanks Bruce for once again helping our family make wonderful memories! See you in August!
We had such a great time! We canoed and kayaked and lazed in the sunshine all day and sat in the hot tub at night! The house is so close to the beach--it's so convenient to go to and from the house! We also used the ping pong table and the tether ball set! What a fun vacation we had! Thank you so much!
We have stayed here a few years ago and have to say we were very delighted by the amenties and updates the owner has done. We are a family of (7) and arrived that evening to a clean & welcoming cottage just as we remembered. We have stayed in many home & cottage rentals all over and this is one our favorites. No its not a resort, but it has so much character and things to do you feel like your at one. We absolutely loved the upstairs balcony!! Perfect for coffee in the morning. The hot tub was spotless and easy to operate. The kids loved the slide and the outdoors ping pong table was a big hit. The lake is not like "Lake Michigan" but is very nice and is clean with beach sand and a raked bottom. It is a typical inland lake that you find elsewhere (minus jets skiis and loud boats). The cottage is exactly as described and even more inviting. Bruce is very welcoming and well as the cleaning lady who checked in with us that night. Very nice! The dining table on the porch is set with beautiful "cottage style" dishes and is very inviting. The place is decorated nicely. There are a couple air conditioners supplied that is a bonus! I was skeptical at first, but they provided ample cooling for the cottage at night. The kitchen was also perfect for preparing meals and was clean and well equiped with everything you would need. The area is full of other cottages and we felt very safe letting our kids out. Great restaurants and Lake Michigan is also near by. We prefered the lake as we didn't have to worry about or currents with the kids. I look forward to staying here again and our family has already decided to book again for next year! Thank you Bruce for your hospitality.
When looking far away it looks good, but looks can be deceiving! To begin all the pictures are old and not up to date. There is different furniture and kitchen appliances. The house itself is slanted towards the lake and the upstairs the second floor balcony has exposed structure to the weather. The backyard railing to the balcony is loose and in some parts completely coming off. The windows are held open with pieces off cut wood. Be cautious when removing the wood I almost lost my fingers. Some of the window screens in the back have holes in them. Plus the furniture in the picture they have is not the furniture there. Actually some of the deck furniture is broken and all of it is rusty. My husband found glass on the left side path down to the lake. MY cousin kids found beer cans on the beach near the tire swing. If you like dirty lake water then you will love this lake. I live near the other side of Michigan off of Lake Saint Clair. I know about beaches, cottages and this place is a mess. The slide in the water is broken and some of the boats are too. The hot tube was dirty and when my husband went to see if he could look at thew filter too make sure it was clean the railing fell right off. But what do you expect when its held together with staples. The whole house is dirty with cob webs, bugs, black and brown dust. The paint job is a joke if they did paint a room. All the doors have to be slammed shut because the door fit correctly and there is at least an inch between the bottom off the door and the floor. So god only knows what could come in at night. The furniture is not the same in the house that is on the photos here. The furniture looks like he got them from the Good Will. There are big spiders in the house. The furniture is stained with dirt I hope? The cabinets in the kitchen smell. What am I saying the whole house smelled. Just dirty dirty dirty!!!! Broken door knobs, cabinets, chairs, lamps, light sockets, window shades, beds, and you think it its broken here! The dishes they set out for use on the table had a film off dust, finger print and something else that looks disgusting. Broken window in the master bedroom that was trying to be hidden from view. The air conditioners were old as dirt. Plus there was only two so unless you slept in the master bedroom or the kitchen slash front room you were sleeping in the heat. Please go to my Facebook page and look under Stacy Humbert for crappy cabin pics. The owners will see me in court!!!!!!
There is a swim raft with a water slide, tire swing, tether ball, sandy beach and a great lakefront tree fort
with bunks for kids. Next to Manistee National Forest & 20 minutes from Lake Michigan beaches.
