Townhome, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)
Tom and I live in the San Francisco Bay area, and love it here, but we have always thought about retiring in Mexico to experience a slower life. We originally thought about locating in or near beach towns, but after our neighbor returned from a visit to San Miguel in the colonial heartland of Mexico, we decided to take a vacation there to see what all the fuss was about. We packed our bags and with our then 11 year old son went to spend two weeks. To say we fell in love with San Miguel is an understatement. The sky is an amazing blue, the townspeople are warm and welcoming, and the weather is always mild. But best of all San Miguel has been largely untouched by development. In fact the nearly 500 year old center of town has been declared a World Heritage Site. By the time our vacation was over we knew we had found our second home.
Carol purchased this Townhome in 2006
Why Carol chose Rinconada de Los Balcones
San Miguel is quite simply a magical town whose unique location in the country insured that it would remain unspoiled by development. (It was away from the silver mines and their transportation routes.) The center of town is a gathering place for both tourists and residents alike. Walking mariachi bands serenade, children run and laugh and old men and women sit and read the newspaper or just watch people. Many people prefer to live in the heart of the action, but we found that a short walk up the hill brings both proximity to the center and the peaceful quiet that we craved. The location is perfect!
What makes this Townhome unique
While you relax and enjoy your vacation, our maid, Rosa, will tend to your needs and keep the house clean. Maribel the manager is on duty during the day in case of any urgent needs, and at night, you can rest easy knowing that the night watchman, Francisco is there. Our house is steps away from the pool and hot tub, and the large common area patio. After a full day of sight seeing, gallery hopping, and exploring, you can come home, make a margarita and sit on the terrace outside of your bedroom and watch the always spectacular sunset. You'll enjoy great views of the churches and the lake beyond.

Beautiful house with great views
I stayed at Carol's place for a whole month and loved it every minute.
Balcones neighborhood is probably the best in San Miguel, it's just outside Centro, but just a few blocks from everything, so you get the benefits of both, Centro-living and tranquility of a suburb.
It's ideally located right at the end of Balcones and the beginning of Tecolote neighborhood, which makes this a premium location, where you can walk through Tecolote charming alleys and get to Centro in 5 minutes., then come back and have a peaceful place to relax.
The house is not only beautiful (pictures don't lie), but it's also well-equipped with everything you need in the kitchen (there's even a food processor and a coffee grain mill!), there's also a 50 inch Smart TV set with soundbar and cable TV & Netflix.
I especially loved the views from the terrace, it's such a great place for a morning coffee or a tea while watching the sunset.
I didn't have the time to enjoy the pool as much as I'd like to, but if you're here on holiday, you better bring your swimsuit! It's a big pool surrounded by a beautiful garden.
House decor is great and made me feel at home, it's all so warm and cozy! all bedrooms have really comfortable mattresses, so a nice and comfortable sleep is guaranteed.
I'd definetively stay here again next time and will recommend this place to my friends.
I didn't have the pleasure to meet Carol, but communication through messages and email was fast and she was very very helpful to my specific situation and requests.
Additionally, Rosa and Maribel are always there to help with any issue regarding the property, so there's nothing to worry about!
Thank you Carol for everything!
Beautiful Casa, beautiful gardens
My wife and I enjoy the beautiful accommodations and amenities offered at Cruz de San Jose, casa 12. We made many friends in this small gated community and we look forward to returning each year.
Thanks, Doug. One of the things we most appreciate about our little community there is that the people are so friendly and welcoming. They (and we) look forward to seeing you return!
Oasis on the hill
My father, son and I stayed in this lovely hillside oasis for a month and truly enjoyed all that this casita has to offer. The views from the balconies, the beautifully landscaped garden, the pool, the fully stocked kitchen and the comfortable beds. I can't say enough for the incredibly helpful and sweet staff, Rosa and Maribel were great!
I truly enjoyed waking up every morning and walking out to my balcony and taking that first deep breath. Doing yoga and seeing the beautiful view of the city center and the colorful balloons coming up at sunrise, was a treat.
Although it was a trek up the hill daily, going down was a breeze. The cab ride was inexpensive and it sure was a relief after a long day of exploring the city. It was also great to come home after a long day of walking and having the pool to cool off.
I hope to return to San Miguel soon and would love to return to Carol and Tom's home.
Thank you for creating a very special place for us to come home to during our stay in San Miguel de Allende.
Warm, delightful and secure.
The Casa is part of a gated complex that offers beautiful landscapes grounds and a Birdseye view the city below. We’ll definitely be returning to this Casa.
Thanks for the kind words, Doug. We love sharing our home with people like you who feel the spirit of the house and of San Miguel.
A beautiful oasis!
My family and I stayed for a month at Carol's townhouse, and it was one of the best vacations we've ever had. The townhouse was completely stocked with all we needed to enjoy our stay. The beds were very comfortable, the area is quiet yet only a short walk to Centro, Rosa (the housekeeper) was incredibly sweet and helpful, and we can't wait to return.
The Jewel Box on the Hill
This property, located almost at the top of a hill has an amazing view. It feels very safe and secluded but if you forget your key, someone friendly will always let you in.
The house is like no other. It is decorated with beautiful masks and amazing rugs which give it such a warm feeling.
The caretaker and Annabell the woman who cares for the house are warm and friendly and will help you in anyway that they can!!
The home also has all of the really cool colorful decorative mexican art items strategically placed. You really feel like you are in San Miguel here.
The bedrooms upstairs are very spacious and each has its own bathroom and veranda with a view.
The condo is beautifully constructed with the most amazing arched ceiling in the Main bedroom.
The bedroom and tv room downstairs has 2 beds and a really nice bathroom with shower. All of the bedrooms have their won bathroom and shower then there is a bethroom by the living room for guests.
I love the kitchen and it even has a pantry and there is always something there for you to use.
Nice long table in dining area and a cozy living room.
My favorite place is outside the front door there is a table that is surrounded by trees and bushes. I love to sit there and have my cocktail and paint watercolor paintings. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!
Thanks for your kind words, Julie. I especially appreciate that you liked the front patio arrangement. We were just there and put the table and chairs there very much on a whim. We loved it too. It felt like a very private little garden paradise. We hope you come back soon and make some more watercolors!
Walk to San Miguel's beautiful botanical gardens as well as the center of town!
