Long time resident of Little Switzerland. I designed and built my vacation rental cabins keeping in mind what I would be looking for in a residence for my self / rental property in the mountains. Enjoy the natural beauty, quality of life and sustainability this area provides. Spend most of my time outdoor hiking and tending the garden..
The Perch Cabin has a prime location and all the amenities including a panoramic view that's unrivaled..
Located on a private road 2/10 of mile with in easy walking distance to the village of Little Switzerland
My boyfriend Brian and I stayed in Rick's cabin for 1 week. The view was breath taking. No streetlights made star gazing a great experience. The hot tub was clean. We utilized the grill and cooked dinner together instead of always eating out. He had a few games there so we played those and just spent some quality time together. There was plenty of towels, and everything we needed to feel at home. Rick was pleasant and a very nice guy. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone who wants to get away from the real world for a bit. No cell phone service was actually great for the first time in my life. If u Stand in the bathroom by the window or back porch you will get service sometimes but I loved my phone not ringing or getting texts constantly. Overall it was the BEST vacation we have had. So thank you Rick for accommodating us. We will be back.
We could not have found a more ideal place for the holiday. Rick is a pleasure to deal with and we appreciated the advice about visiting Crabtree Falls. We had everything we needed there, the hot tub was wonderful and we loved Spruce Pine. It was wonderful and we can't wait to get back!
My husband and I stayed at The Perch for one week celebrating our anniversary. The cabin is great and Rick is wonderful to work with. The view from the deck is amazing!!!! The view is different every day. We loved being in the hot tub overlooking the mountains. The cabin had all the comforts of home and was so clean. The fireplace was nice on cool evenings. It is so peaceful and absolutely beautiful on Grassy Mountain. We will definitely stay there again. Thanks Rick for a wonderful week!
As others have said, the view is amazing and the owner is very nice and easy to work with. The downstairs is actually accessible only from the outside as was mentioned in the description, but this might make this difficult for families with smaller children. Sitting in the hot tub in the evening overlooking the view or at night looking at the stars is so very relaxing! There are some renovations needed to be made to the upstairs deck and the owner indicated he'd make these over the next few months. My only concern was that I'd specifically mentioned in my original request that we were bothered by motorcycle engine noise and asked if we'd hear any from the Parkway. The owner did correctly reply that we would not hear any from the Parkway, but I feel perhaps in the spirit of total honesty, that he would have mentioned that a few hundred yards below the cabin is a road up the mountain from the valley that is a popular road with motorcyclists and that you do have motorcycle engine noise emanating from that. It wasn't 24/7, at night there was no noise, but it did deter from our enjoyment of the balcony during the day. Other than that, I'd recommend this cabin. It was centrally located to Little Switzerland, Spruce Pine, Linville Falls and Crabtree Meadows are easily within 1/2 driving time. Grandfather Mtn, Boone and Blowing Rock a little more than an hour north and Asheville a little over an hour south.
My new wife and I, in an effort to cut costs, decided to honeymoon here instead of some exotic far away location. Within about an hour of being at the perch cabin, we quickly realized that we wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else. Rick is GREAT; so easy to work with and didn't fuss one bit about meeting us for check in at 10pm on a Sunday night!
As for the cabin itself, everyone needs to know that the pictures do not do it justice. The views from the cabin alone are absolutely awe-inspiring. Not to mention, it's location about 60 seconds from the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 500 mile long scenic nature lover's dream. Also, the hot tub (which Rick had fired up to a cozy 100 degrees upon arrival) on the deck was an incredible feature, which I tried to spend as much time in as possible!
Cabin rental quality.....
The cabin itself was perfect!! The first thing my wife and I noticed when we were exploring the first night was HOW CLEAN it was. The amenities were perfect down to the little details...there were plenty of areas that could have been skimped on and compensated with elsewhere but Rick clearly took the time, energy, and money to make everything about this rental PERFECT. I was shocked to discover 2 TV's (one big screen in the master and one very nice one in the living room), both with cable and DVD players, and high speed wireless internet throughout the whole cabin!
A massive stone fireplace with enough wood to get you through the winter was an incredible feature.
The kitchen was phenomenal with updated appliances and ANY cooking utensil you could possibly need.
A washer/dryer unit was perfect to avoid that big bag of stinking laundry you inevitably end up with at the end of a vacation.
Basically, I couldn't say enough good things about this vacation rental. My wife and I have already made plans to return to the Perch Cabin next year for our anniversary!
The Perch is in a great location. We easily traveled north and south on the Blue Ridge Parkway reaching trails and waterfalls and many scenic overlooks. We watched the clouds and fog literally blanket the valleys below us, and had a wonderful full moon and starry sky above us in the hot tub. We had our coffee and breakfasts on the patio each morning and admired the view and listened to the variety of birds nearby. Rick was a very engaging host who knows the area very well and was able to suggest places to eat and sights to see...we appreciated his humor and advice. We hope to return someday...and we hope The Perch will be available! Thank you Rick...
