The best view EVER!

  • 5 of 5

I came to stay at The Perch Cabin for my first week of Lapidary classes. Since I was in class most of the day, I invited my parents to join me so that they could enjoy the house while I was out during the day. The original plan was that they would stay the first part of the week and then go home, leaving me there for the rest of the week. After their first day, they made the decision to come back at the end of the week (and even brought my sister with them)! We met Rick at the Little Switzerland post office and he led us up the road to this beautiful piece of heaven! The view is the best I've ever seen from any place I've ever stayed at before. I know everyone talks about the view, but talking about it (and even pictures) does it NO justice! It simply must be seen to be believed. The cabin was cozy and worked well for us; everything was clean and comfortable. My mother, who has loved the beach FAR more than the mountains, had a total change of heart. She said that staying in The Perch Cabin has made her want to move to the mountains! I know that doesn't seem like much, but y'all, that's a huge deal! The house has window air conditioners available, but we never needed them. Between the constant breeze blowing up from the valley below and the ceiling fans in the house, we were extremely comfortable the entire time. I was a little concerned with parking, but there was room off the side of the drive that was ideal for parking (we had 2 SUVs) and room to turn around. The drive up to the house is a single track road, but there are multiple places to pull off if you happen to meet someone coming in or out. I only met people a few times in my entire week of staying there, so it wasn't really an issue at all. With the well stocked kitchen, we made most of our meals at the cabin and didn't miss going out much because we had an awesome mountain view table whenever we wanted one. Rick was a pleasure to meet and was very accommodating. He let us know that he was there for us if we ever needed anything but was never invasive. We even had a vase of fresh flowers when we arrived. After my classes I would come back to the cabin and utilize the hot tub on the back deck to relax in and just soak in the view. It was one of the best weeks I've ever had and I simply can't wait to come back in October to take my second week of classes and stay at The Perch Cabin again. Thank you Rick for allowing us to stay in your little slice of heaven!

Gorgeous Christmas Gettaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four stayed at the cabin over Christmas, and attended a Christmas Eve candlelight service in Marion, about a half-hour drive away. After a hectic year for our family, the beauty of the mountains, and the peace and quiet of Rick's cabin, were just what the doctor ordered. The view, as everyone else has pointed out, is simply breathtaking, and we spent at least part of every night in the hot tub, stargazing. If you do book in the winter four wheel drive is advised in case of snow. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Perch. And Rick is a great host, easy to work with and very accommodating. Thanks for sharing your cabin, Rick!

It was a nice place with a wonderful view.

  • 4 of 5

It was a long drive to get something to eat but only because lots of things were closed for the winter season.

Breathtakingly Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I like to take a little getaway prior to the hustle and bustle of the holidays and this was just the place to stay. Rick was very welcoming. The cabin was very comfortable and cozy. The scenery from the deck and hot tub was magnificent. We would highly recommend "The Perch Cabin" if you are seeking rest and relaxation.

Happy times

Beautiful view from the deck and comfortable bed. We had so much fun at the cabin. The fall colors were truly amazing, especially on the drive on Blue Ridge Parkway. Thank you. Please bring your Epi pen if you are allergic to bee stings ( no, I was not stung.)

Spectacular View

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the most relaxing vacation at Rick's cabin. We loved hanging out on the deck; we had to pry ourselves away from the view. We enjoyed the Blue Ridge parkway, trips to Mt. Mitchell, Crabtree Falls and Carolina Hemlock State park. Rick was most helpful with recoomendations for places to go and places to die. We enjoyed eating out on the deck, it was great to have the charcoal grill. We weren't sure if we'd use the hot tub on the deck, but decided to try it. Loved it! Would have been a mistake to miss out on it. It was really hard to leave, glad we took a lot of pictures to relive the memories.

There was an excellent Wi-Fi connection. We found that there was good cell phone coverage with Verizon.
