You don't have to pitch a tent in the mountains or hunker down in an off-the-grid cabin to experience a relaxing vacation far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. When you stay at this three-bedroom vacation rental, you'll enjoy a beautiful forested setting, as well as the comfort and amenities of a gorgeous luxury home.
This historic property is located 15 miles north of Durango and one-and-a-half miles from Highway 550, so you aren't too far from the conveniences of civilization. The property, which features two ponds and a creek, is also just 14 miles south of Purgatory Resort, creating a wonderful escape for skiers and snowboarders.
Inside, this vacation rental combines modern, upscale decor with traditional cabin-esque touches. Expansive windows and vaulted ceilings bring lightness and balance to natural stone finishes.
When you enter the home, you'll find yourself in the living area. Notice the comfy couch and the gas fireplace - in cold weather, there's no better place to curl up with a good book.
From the living room, step into the open kitchen, which features ample counter space, a farmhouse sink, and a full host of appliances (including a Viking range). With such a beautiful space to work in, you'll be glad of the chance to cook at home - and thanks to the dishwasher, there's no need to worry about cleanup.
Eat in style at the six-person dining room table in the next room. Afterward, retire to the couches at the other end of the room for a family movie night on the flatscreen cable TV, or catch up on your social media using the complimentary wireless internet.
This rental includes a private washer and dryer, so you can keep your clothes fresh and clean no matter how long your stay. There's also a spacious office on the first floor, great for anyone looking to do some work in private.
Just behind the house, a stone shelter from the 1950s houses patio furniture and a gas grill, so if you get the urge to barbecue - perhaps after a day of fishing? - you'll find everything you need for a proper cookout. Admire outbuildings (also built in the 1950s), watch cattle graze in the pasture over the summer, and enjoy the flowers in the fields. The pond is home to a school of goldfish, and by late spring, apply and apricot trees are bearing fruit.
When night falls, up to six guests can sleep comfortably in this home's three bedrooms. On the first floor, a master suite features a king-size bed, a gas fireplace, and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate bathtub. The home's second full bathroom is also on the first floor.
Head up the spiral staircase to find the remaining two bedrooms. In one, you'll find two twin beds, perfect for kids. The other bedroom, which includes a queen-size bed, is a loft-style bedroom and overlooks the main living area.
As far as entertainment goes, Durango has no shortage of pastimes. Take a leisurely walk around the property, admiring the lovely views of the San Juan Mountains. Go fly fishing in the Animas River, which is less than a mile from your front door. Enjoy mountain biking or hiking at one of the numerous nearby trails.
If you do feel the urge to spend time in town, Durango itself is a mecca of restaurants, local breweries, and local shops. Purgatory Resort offers dog sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, and snowboarding, as well as spas, restaurants, and shops in the Base Village.
For a laid-back, outdoor-oriented vacation in the San Juan Mountains, you can't go wrong with this incredible Durango home.
