From the private wooden deck we have seen killer whales and dolphins.
The seals are regular visitors (seasonal) and different species of seabirds are at home here. This is no surprise as the house is facing the North Atlantic ocean and rich fishing grounds are in view.
The house used to be the village general store but has been converted by the present owners into two luxury apartments.
We also have a second apartment at the same location. If this apartment is already booked you can check on the other one. The name is Svörtuloft 2 and the property number is 1019508.The village Hellissandur is only 200 km from Reykjavík (2.5 hours) and the roads are excellent. You can choose between three scenic routes going there.

You will not find better accommodations for touring the western peninsula than this apartment. Breathtaking views greet you as soon as you walk in to this clean, well equipped and cozy property. Stella and Larus were delightful and have thought of everything, even provided an electrical adaptor we had forgotten to pack. Snaefellsjokull Park was mere minutes away as well as many quaint towns nearby. I would surely stay here again and will definitely recommend to friends and family.
Thanks Stella and Larus for such wonderful accommodations in the shadow of Snaefellsjokull. The beautifully appointed rental home was perfectly matched to the gorgeous views. Outside the front window is Snaefellsjokull, and outside the rear window is the Atlantic Ocean. Stella and Larus have thought of everything for visitors' comfort and enjoyment, with wonderful books, cds, and even a pair of binoculars for whale and seal spotting (we sadly didn't see any while we were there, but it was fun trying!). We would definitely return on another trip to Snaefell.Just great.
This is one of the most amazing places that we have ever stayed in. The place itself has everything that you could want, all the facilities that you need when on holiday, LOADS of books, iPad, stunning views, peaceful location, loads to see within and hour or so, lots of walks on the doorstep, I could go on. Don't let the lack of TV put you off as you just wouldn't have time to watch it, when you are in the property you have all that you could want to see right in front of you. I always insist on WIFI for my blog and uploading photos, and it goes without saying that the WIFI here is strong and reliable; not like some places where it's up and down like....well you know what I mean. Without doubt we will be back, only next time for longer.
Stunning location overlooking sea and, when the cloud cleared, glacier. Great accommodation - very clean, comfortable, stylish and well equipped. Owner very welcoming and friendly. Particularly grateful for good weather - only one day of rain in a week but very windy!!! Special thanks to Stella and Larus.
The apartment is a unique and wonderful place, located right at the sea with a fantastic view of the ocean.
It is spacious, clean and cosy and comes with lots of nice things: Binoculars to watch the seabirds and ships; several bookshelves full of classical literature in various languages; a collection of classical music CDs along with a small hi-fi system. We were even supplied with an iPad, which had lots of useful apps on it.
Larus, who showed us around the apartment, is a very friendly and helpful person - available, but never intrusive, like another reviewer already put it.
We stayed for a week and had our little boy aged one with us. The place had both a baby crib and a high chair, and there were also a couple of toys for him. Furthermore, there's a small grocery store inside a petrol station nearby, and a bigger one in the next village a couple of kilometers away, so I can't of anything missing!
This house is as lovely as it looks in the photos. When we first walked in and saw the terrace overlooking the sea at twilight, with all the twinkling lights indoors - it was a real 'Wow!' from both of us. The house manages to combine being completely amid nature (you are poised right over the seascape, which changes all the time) with a stylish and welcoming interior. Lots of soft lighting. There are so many nice touches, like the strong binoculars by the comfy chairs looking out to sea, and the comprehensive charts of birds on the wall. They even tell you how to identify the passing shops on the internet, in real time! (One small tip: bring a serious raincoat out-of-season - all part of the fun.) All in all, a very special place.
