Overview

About the property

The view is endless. The ocean on one side, the glacier on the other

From the private wooden deck we have seen killer whales and dolphins.

The seals are regular visitors (seasonal) and different species of seabirds are at home here. This is no surprise as the house is facing the North Atlantic ocean and rich fishing grounds are in view.

The house used to be the village general store but has been converted by the present owners into two luxury apartments.

We also have a second apartment at the same location. If this apartment is already booked you can check on the other one. The name is Svörtuloft 2 and the property number is 1019508.The village Hellissandur is only 200 km from Reykjavík (2.5 hours) and the roads are excellent. You can choose between three scenic routes going there.

Fantastic views, great veranda.

  • 5 of 5

A really great place, fantastic home from home feel. Brilliant views and outside veranda virtually over the sea. It was lovely to get back from days out and watch the sunset and looking out for whales, porpoise ( we saw porpoise) and sea birds in big leather armchairs with binoculars from the house. Also the best and most comfortable beds we had our entire holiday. Talking of beds the iceland thing it's to have 2 separate duvets, great idea, your partner can thrash into a heap and you sleep soundly.

Love the place

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay, we came for 4 days last year but for 7 this time around, and again were not disappointed.

If you're looking for somewhere with lots of action, then is not the place for you, but if you are looking to stay in a stunning area, after peace and quiet, and love looking out over the sea then this is the place for you.

There's nothing better than to sit overlooking the sea, with music on low in the background and a good read....heaven.

Lovely! Can't wait to return here!

  • 5 of 5

We love this rental. The hosts had coffee and tea ready for us when we arrived. So nice! And the views, the views couldn't of been better! Not only does the living room have a wall of windows overlooking the ocean, the bedroom has a sitting area with very large corner windows overlooking the ocean. Two very comfortable chairs are in the bedroom. Enchantment surrounds you as you gaze upon the ocean and immerse yourself in this environment. I fell in love with the many little Common Eider ducks feeding on the waters below our window. We had lots of different weather when we were there, and we enjoyed every moment of it.

There is a fantastic small grocery store within walking distance of the rental. The store had lettuce, butter, cheeses, pita bread, bakery items, much more selection than an average convenience store. I was so happy that I could walk to get milk! There is a larger grocery store 10 minutes away. We were worried about food, we had read articles about strange Icelandic food, but we found we had nothing to worry about. There was a bakery in a little town 10 minutes away, a very good bakery, and we visited the bakery every day. That was heavenly. I come back home, and I miss the Icelandic bakery. From practically right out of our front door, we could take trails in all directions. Such a convenient way to walk around and explore the area!

And I don't want to forget, the bathroom towel warmer. It was about 2' x 5', with warm bars laddered up it, I had never seen one before. it was really a treat to have warm towels when you get out of the shower. I also used it to lean against and warm my back, such a delicious treat!

I will definitely be back, can't wait :-)!

Awesome if you want to get WAY off the beaten path and enjoy nature

  • 5 of 5

We were there early March and blessed with unusually beautiful weather which was perfect for all the outdoors activities we wanted to do along the coastline and in the national park (hiking Snaefelljokul glacier/mountain - seeing the Northern Lights and climbing around on various nearby waterfalls and cliffs and beaches) Buy groceries in the city before you come though - they are hard to find here and very expensive. This is a wonderful kitchen - we never had to eat out. Loved all the little extras like binoculars and an IPad with some cool relevant apps loaded. Amazind deck and location - assuming you DON'T want to be around people/city.

Truly amazing spot for exploring West Iceland

  • 5 of 5

You will not find better accommodations for touring the western peninsula than this apartment. Breathtaking views greet you as soon as you walk in to this clean, well equipped and cozy property. Stella and Larus were delightful and have thought of everything, even provided an electrical adaptor we had forgotten to pack. Snaefellsjokull Park was mere minutes away as well as many quaint towns nearby. I would surely stay here again and will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Wow! You need to stay here.

  • 5 of 5

Thanks Stella and Larus for such wonderful accommodations in the shadow of Snaefellsjokull. The beautifully appointed rental home was perfectly matched to the gorgeous views. Outside the front window is Snaefellsjokull, and outside the rear window is the Atlantic Ocean. Stella and Larus have thought of everything for visitors' comfort and enjoyment, with wonderful books, cds, and even a pair of binoculars for whale and seal spotting (we sadly didn't see any while we were there, but it was fun trying!). We would definitely return on another trip to Snaefell.Just great.
