School Reunion Group Trip
There were 18 of us, a few more guys than women. The guys had been to school together more than 50 years ago and this was our second mini-reunion. We took the entire house and stayed a week. Given the season, we made limited use of the pool and none of the tennis court. The house is lovely and the bedrooms and shared areas are comfortable. A key component of the visit was the house manager, Marie Therese Streiff, who is extremely efficient and responsive. She is well known in the community and able to bring desired resources to bear immediately. Through her we found a wine provider, caterers for breakfast and for two dinners and all manner of advice. Through her husband two of us found excellent bicycle routes and a superb bicycle repair shop. The stay was organized by WIMCO villas, which also did a superb job. Hard to imagine not liking this lovely place or the surrounding countryside. Haven
Amazing Property in an Amazing Location in Provence!
We spent a week in this amazing estate with my family of 13! This property is so grand and expansive, it's hard to get the full scope with just the pictures, but it definitely exceeded our expectations. The bedrooms and bathroom must have been professionally decorated as every detail was considered including the amazing Balinese style doors used for the bathrooms. With 7 double bedrooms on the 2nd floor (all with ensuite bathrooms), there is still a lot of privacy on this floor with several sets of large doors which close off wings to provide extra separation between the rooms. The property is so large that we didn't even use the 3rd floor which had 4 additional bedrooms with twin beds that would have been great for kids. There is also another double bedroom with ensuite bath on the main floor, overlooking the patio and pool which is great for someone who doesn't want to climb stairs or wants a little more separation.
The outdoor patio spaces are the best parts of the house. We had all of our meals in the outdoor dining space just outside of the main kitchen. This amazing covered space could have easily sat 20+ people very comfortably. After dinner, we would retire to the other part of the covered patio onto the comfy chairs and couches to play games, read, share pictures from the day, etc. This was definitely the most used part of the house as we wanted to spend as much time outside as possible, but still be together.
The estate is within walking distance to the village of Lourmarin and this is one of the most beautiful villages in the area. The Friday market was incredible and well worth a visit. We hired Sofie as our Chef for several of the nights and she and her team were amazing!
A few things to be aware of:
We didn't get to use the tennis courts in the front of the estate as there are no tennis rackets available. Be sure to bring some along if you want to use the courts. I think this is something the property should offer at a small cost or included in the stay.
The swimming pool off of the bedroom on the first floor was not heated upon arrival, so we had to ask for the heat to be turned on. Although the temperature was definitely warmer than the non heated lap pool close to the olive groves, the temperature never really reached a comfortable level for night swimming or even cooler days.
On the plus side, the write up does not mention the jacuzzi and sauna which are both on the back side of the estate in a covered area.
This home is romantic, magical, well-appointed, and HUGE! A fabulous family reunion location!
We spent a week in this beautiful home with a group of 24 to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We were stunned from the start by the beautiful, gated entrance with a tree lined lane leading to the house. The pictures they have do it no justice. There are 7 deliciously decorated, spacious master bedrooms on the second floor, and another on the main floor leading out to the side courtyard/heated pool/garden. The bathrooms in several rooms have what looks like balinese gate/doors leading into them, and very cool appointments for vanities. Two of the bedrooms are lofted with stairs built from salvaged wood from old buildings on the property. Comfy new mattresses in all bedrooms, too! On the 3d floor, there are 4 bedrooms with twin beds, 2 with bathrooms ensuite, and other 2 with a shared hall bath. There are half baths scattered over the main floor. The living areas are very comfortable, and we easily dialed into the World Cup matches! The kitchens (2) are stunningly appointed with over-the-top appliances, and huge fireplaces. The larger kitchen with the stools was more popular, only because it had direct access to the main courtyard and koi pond, and this huge beautiful tree in the entryway. The other pool is located through a little grove of trees where you can settle in and enjoy magnificent views of the Luberon mountains. The tennis court shared the mountain views and provided a lot of enjoyment for the group. The exercise room is also very well appointed. We had 5 of 7 nights catered. Valerie, the manager, was extraordinarily helpful in finding these talented chefs who were very reasonably priced and saved us from a lot of headaches in trying to enjoy family meals together (especially the cleanup part). The caterers even arranged for musicians for us! Adjacent to the large tables (where we sat 24 very comfortably) is a small seating area where we enjoyed late nights laughing, singing and dancing with no fear of waking the neighbors. Two huge metal inner gates close to secure the property within walls. There is a fabulous market (the best in Provençe) in Lourmarin on Friday morning which is a short walk/drive from the house. Everything from cool french clothing, to fresh produce, herbs, jewelry, scarves, etc. We had no reviews to guide us, only a wish and a prayer that it might be lovely. It exceeded expectations 100-fold, and we pinch ourselves to believe that we didnt simply dream this magical, perfect week in charming Provençe.
What a very pleasure luxurious villa.
Everything is thought well ! A very high-tech villa with a very modern decoration. Situated in the campaign from Aix, we were able to benefit at the same time from a total tranquillity at the edge of the swimming pool and at the edge of the city livened up of Aix-en-Provence.
We adored our stay, for our 1st time in the South of France.
To discover the castle of Lourmarin, ll consists of two parts, the oldest dates from the fifteenth century. This is the Agoult family who built and lived for three centuries. Also its annual music festival. Do not miss the International Piano Festival held annually at the Roque d'Anthéron. Big names from around the world perform there. Hiking in the Luberon Mourre Négre which rises 1115m above sea level where you will see a sea and discover the scents of Provence thyme, rosemary, lavender, boxwood and all wild medicinal plants and wildlife, what happiness! We are lucky with the sun, to have the highest concentration of the most beautiful villages of France: ROUSSILLON GORDES MENERBES LOURMARIN ANSOUIS All are to visit without moderation. Not to mention a Provencal village: BUOUX, goat cheese, and the possibility of its cliffs climbing, a magical place to discover! A small secret information: LOURMARIN was the last place of residence of Albert Camus; it is also one of his final resting place. This is why the Tourist Board has set up a literary promenade 'In the footsteps of Albert Camus';
