Centrally located 5 minutes walk from the town centre, Forgan Cottage was fully renovated in 2012 to a high standard for the holiday rental market and as a private holiday home. The cottage was built circa 1896 by the Forgan family who in the late 1800s were one of the leading golf club manufacturers based in St Andrews.
The cottage has been tastefully modernised and redecorated throughout, with new kitchen and bathrooms, newly carpeted bedrooms, stairs and upper hall and oak flooring in the downstairs hall and living area.
The bright living/dining area looks out onto the back garden and the path along the Kinness Burn can be accessed through the rear garden gate.
All bedrooms have king size beds, two of which can be converted to twin beds.
There is a large centrally heated basement with washing machine, tumble dryer, additional fridge and freezer. There is also ample space to store bikes and golf clubs.
We bought the cottage because our son is studying at St Andrews University and the town is a lovely place for either a day trip or a few nights stay as it is not too far from where we live in Glasgow.

My son and I looked at several properties but Forgan Cottage had a very nice atmosphere about it and we could see it had potential to be a fabulous holiday home and place for him to stay when he is studying.
It is only a very short walk from the town centre but also has plenty of free parking outside. It is centrally located for either the West or East sands which was important as we have a dog.
We have fully refurbished the cottage and it is extremely comfortable either in summer or winter. New central heating and continuous hot water make it a cosy place to stay even in the depths of winter. The garden at the back looks onto the Kinness Burn which is a lovely feature in the summer.
We love spending time in the cottage as it has an extremely relaxing feel to it.
We stayed at Forgan Cottage in late August, and could not have been happier. The tipping point in choosing this location was it's washer and tumble dryer. This was important to us as we planned an extended stay elsewhere in Europe after Scottish golf. However, in looking at the sum total of convenience to the city center, St. Andrews golf, St. Andrews site, pubs, restaurants, garden stylish decorations, comfort, etc., this proved to be a excellent rental. It is well represented in the pictures provided on the website. Also, while not directly on The Scores, I found the value to be well worth the short walk to Old Course/R&A parts of town.
Finally, I should add that the owner, Patricia, was excellent. The rooms were made up as we wished, the house is well stocked with utensils, and everything was in complete working order. She was also very helpful with local recommendations one would normally not receive outside of a hotel. In sum total, we have stayed in many different VRBO rentals, and I would highly recommend Forgan Cottage as one of our best self-catering rentals.
My family and I absolutely loved our stay at Forgan Cottage! The location was perfect for exploring all of St. Andrews - close to downtown, golfing, shopping, restaurants, and sites. The home was very comfortable and overall lovely! The kitchen was well stocked, there was plenty of room for all of us, the gardens were beautiful, and we so enjoyed being able to do laundry. Patricia was wonderful to work with and has done a beautiful job with this rental. Thank you, thank you! We look forward to returning in the future!!
We stayed for 1 week in late July, the property was fantastic. It was clean, well maintained and well configured for our situation (3 adult couples) and in a great location. Its walking distance (maybe a 5 min walk) into town. Nearby to many great shops, restaurants and golf.
We also liked that the property has a basement with storage for our clubs and luggage, a freezer and had a washer dryer on the property.
The owner had a 3 ring reference book with all pertinent info on the property that was very helpful and a local contact in case there were issues. We did end up having a small problem with a bathroom door that locked, but the owner's handyman fix it within 1 hour of me calling her. So the owner provided really good service.
We had a very good experience at this property and would definitely would rent it again as well recommend it to others.
We had a lovely stay at Forgan Cottage. The property had everything we needed, was very well maintained and very comfortable. It was so convenient for the town of St Andrews and made our stay very enjoyable.

's property is wonderful. The property sleeps 3 couples very confortably and there is a large enough common area to relax. It also has a outside backyard that we BBQ. It is very convenient to all of the attractions of St Andrews. We stayed 7 nights and she was in contact with us as needed. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone.
The cottage is ideally placed a few minutes walking distance from the town centre with its excellent selection of shops, restaurants, pubs, the famous Byre Theater, cinema and leisure facilities.
The west sands beach, world famous golf courses, golf museum and sea life aquarium are an easy 10 minute walk to the north of the cottage. The east sands, harbor and leisure center are a 10 minute walk to the east of the cottage.
There are numerous golf courses within 20 to 30 minutes drive and the Old Course Hotel and Fairmont Hotel have luxury spas.
