Always in love with Alfama
Alfama is so enchanting and definitely electric during the evenings of June (read: much late night street noise due to the celebrations of Ste. Anthony). The balcony provided a lovely view of a pedestrian only street and the neighborhood streamers. My teenaged daughters were quite comfortable on the sofa bed as I was in the bedroom. Basic amenities were provided including linens and soaps for body and laundry.
The washing machine was necessary for our week long stay as we travel quite light, but we had to get creative with drying as the apartment is not equipped with an clothes line outside the balcony (as is typical in Alfama) or a drying rack.
I would suggest to the owner an electric fan or two to move the humid air and to help block out street and apartment noise, a new carpet in the living area (although a nice touch, the current carpet is too dingy to be appealing), and a more thorough check of bed covers - I washed a duvet cover myself as it was visibly dirty. Although not expected, a Nespresso machine and basic pantry items would be lovely touches as well.
Those not familiar with Alfama should learn that there are many stairs and hills throughout the neighborhood and that the market is located in Apolonia Station.
Planning on returning to Alfama, I would definitely book João’s apartment again.
A great place to experience old Lisbon
Our host was extremely helpful when airline delays caused us to arrive well after midnight. The apartment is located on a quieter passage in an Alfama district made busy by a month long festival, and has a charming view of the old quarter. It is well-equipped, with good public transport options within a few minutes walk at both the top and bottom of the hill. It's a good place to experience life in Lisbon.
Great location, great host!
Our host was great. The Alfama district, where the condo is located, can be confusing, but our host gave us perfect directions to find it. The location of the condo provided a perfect launching point to get to many great restaurants and points of interest. The condo itself was perfect. The bedroom was quiet and dark, so you can catch up on sleep and recharge for the next day. Everything was clean and in good working order. When I return to Lisbon, this will be the place I stay, if available. Chhers!
Fantastic
Fabulous location! The property is as described and more. If you want to stay in the Alfama area then don't wait to book this amazing property.
A real little gem in the heart of the old town, Lisbon
This is a compact but excellently equipped apartment in the heart of the old town. The property is situated in one of the original, old cobbled streets so there are no cars. However it's a short walk from the centre of Lisbon and conveniently located for train, metro and the 28 tram. A short (steep) stroll takes you to 'the viewing point' that everyone flocks to. An excellent choice of restaurants is on your doorstep and this is the Fado quarter so many offer live music.
There are river glimses from the apartment. The apartment is clean and fresh and has everything needed. The owner is delightful and the bottle of wine chilling in the fridge was a nice touch.
With close proximity to the City centre this is an ideal location. Highly recommended.
Adorable little apartment close to the historic No. 28 tram route
We had a lovely three night stay at João’s apartment in picturesque Alfama neighbourhood. The place was lively, but not noisy, at night with traditional Fado entertainment, restaurants and cafes. We took the No.28 tram (a lovely experience in itself) into town very easily from the Port de Sol nearby. We were able to fit in loads of sightseeing as everywhere was accessible by public transport. Eating at The Teatro Mini Bar was one of the highlights of the trip, plus Torre de Belém, Time Out Market, Escher exhibition, Santa Justa Elevador, National Tile Museum and more. João greeted us with wine and biscuits and was the perfect host. Emma and Neil

The apartment is located in a pedestrian street in the heart of historic Alfama, one of Lisbon’s oldest and most typical quarters, between the Castle and the Tagus River.
Only a few minutes’ walk from the popular tram no. 28 that rides the scenic tour of Lisbon hills. Don’t miss the viewpoint of Portas do sol, only 5 minutes’ walk and enjoy the dazzling views: Lisbon’s rooftops, church towers and the Tagus. The apartment is also near fado restaurants, cafés and traditional shops.
Besides walking through medieval Alfama, you can easily reach on foot the lower city (the Baixa), the Cathedral, the Castle, São Vicente Monastery, the domed National Pantheon, the Decorative Arts Museum, the Fado Museum, and the popular Feira da Ladra (flea market).
If you enjoy nightlife you can’t skip the fashionable disco “Lux”, by the river, only 10 minutes away.
