About Mathieu & Elisabeth
Belgian Citizens, Mathieu and Elisabeth lived for more than 10 years in Tuscany. This airline Captain and his wife completely renovated their 9 hectares estate, tastefully blending Tuscan heritage, luxury and green technologies. From the vast olive grove that extends over a large part of their estate, Mathieu and Elisabeth extract a high quality organic oil using an ancestral process of first cold pressing.
What makes this Barn unique
The buildings in Monte Casone have been luxuriously restored according to original plans and have been awarded the much sought after energy performance certificate A+. In order to achieve this a number of green technologies were used during the renovation, such as a closed loop geothermal well system, pyramid shaped under-floor heating and cooling, polarized low emissivity windows, wood fibreboard insulation, dual-flow ventilation and, in addition, the construction of a solar power plant which generates around thirty megawatts of electricity per year. This resolutely environment friendly approach has enabled Monte Casone to reduce its fossil fuel consumption to zero for all the tertiary part of its operation. This is part of what makes Monte Casone so unique: the harmonious combination of respect for its heritage with the luxury of the installation and respect for the environment.

Such a amazing place and looking forward to visiting again. Property managers onsite are the best. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. Niccolò and Lisa have been truly delighted to read your kind comments in their regard!
We hope to see you again soon at Monte Casone.
Best regards from Tuscany, Elisabeth
Fantastic villa in a great setting
We loved our stay at Monte Casone. We stayed at the Moraiolo villa and it was lovely. The villa was really nicely decorated and the location is fantastic. We enjoyed the private patio, BBQ, the pool and mostly the fabulous views! The area is very quiet and we enjoyed the tranquillity and the sunsets and sunrises looking over the Tuscan hills were fantastic..
There's a long gravel road that leads up to the villas but it proved pretty easy to navigate. It's still only about 15 minutes from a selection of good restaurants and 45 minutes from Volterra, San Gimignano and Pisa.
The only minor downside that I'd mentioned are that the beds were a little firm for our taste but that only is a tiny matter. Overall, we thought it was an absolutely fantastic place that we'd definitely be back to stay again.
Dear Gary, Thank you so much for your 5-star feedback about Monte Casone! We are delighted to read that the property fully met your expectations. Regarding the mattress, it is true that these are generally firmer in Europe.
We look forward to welcome you again soon at Monte Casone!
Beautiful spot to get away and relax, enjoy beautiful countryside.
My group of 3 stayed for 3 nights in early June and would love to have stayed longer. Location is even more beautiful than pictures displayed. We had the separate cottage, and it was immaculate. We enjoyed the pool and patio area to the side very much, especially to watch sunsets.
Lisa and Nick met us right as we arrived at about 4 pm and were very helpful and friendly, offering advice or any assistance we needed getting situated. We did ask for some recommendations and directions later, and they were super helpful and we very much enjoyed meeting them.
We arrived in Florence by train from Rome and rented a car to drive to Monte Casone. We had no troubles navigating or finding our way, although we had read where some people thought getting in and out of Florence was difficult. GPS took us right to Monte Casone without a hitch.
We'd recommend taking an afternoon or so and driving to Volterra. It's located up high and offers some beautiful views of the countryside, as well as nice walking and exploring while visiting.
We'd love to return and bring more family members with us, it was such a wonderful location and experience.
Dear Mark, thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star rating! We appreciate the time you took to write this review and appreciated even more having you as guests!
We are delighted to know that you've enjoyed Monte Casone and felt welcomed by Lisa and Niccolò. We certainly look forward to welcoming you back with more family members. Our 8-person accommodation Pendolino would be the perfect option!
New, comfortable and beautiful
We enjoyed our 5 night stay very much. The property is a lovely setting and the construction and home features are very high quality.
We cooked light meals easily for two.
The location is a little remote and requires driving of at least 30 minutes to access the Coop in Peccioli but it is a large store and adequate. Gizzano's services were so limited we did not even attempt to use them.
Dear Jeannine, many thanks for the very kind review and for taking the time to share your experience with us!
We welcome your nice feedback on the estate which is encouraging and greatly appreciated.
The normal driving time to the nearest supermarket is around 15 minutes. It happens sometimes however that GPS devices select a longer route. We are very sorry if that was the case.
Thank you again and we hope to welcome you back at Monte Casone.
Beautiful, tranquil setting for a relaxing holiday
We have just returned from our 1 week stay at Monte Casone – Moraiolo and had a wonderful time. We arrived after 4 busy days in Florence (only 1-1.5 hour drive away) and were given a warm welcome by Elisabeth & Mathieu. The villa was immaculate - very clean, with all the amenities we could have wanted, a real home from home. The shared infinity pool was beautiful and a very welcome relief from the hot July weather. The villa is situated along an undulating track, which did seem longer than we thought, but didn't put us off driving to nearby Ghizzano for bread most mornings. Peccioli - about 20 mins drive from the villa has a new Coop that allowed us to buy the supplies we needed. Can't fault the property at all, the location is great for visiting many towns with lovely tavernas (although some via pretty rough tracks rather than fully tarred roads). The area has lots to see, but if a relaxing holiday by the pool is all you want in stunning surroundings, then this is the place for you. Thanks for our holiday it really was a Tuscan Dream.
Thank you so much for this warm and generous review. I am so pleased that we were able to provide the Tuscan experience you had hoped for! Have a great summer back in Scotland. We hope to see you again soon at Monte Casone. Regards, Elisabeth
Amazing property and views
We loved our stay at Monte Casone. We stayed in the Moraiolo, which is a stand alone villa. The villa and property is immaculate and beautiful. The pool is stunning and well equipped to spend the day relaxing. We found the villa centrally located but wonderfully isolated. We loved the location because sites were close enough to travel to but was so peaceful when we wanted to relax by the pool. The owners, were so helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend this property for your visit to Tuscany. We were two couples and the villa was very spacious and comfortable.
Greetings from Monte Casone! Thank you so much Renee for your wonderful online review. We are always happy to hear from our guests and we very much appreciated your most humbling comments regarding our estate. This is indeed high praise and we are most grateful for your kind remarks on our behalf. We look forward to welcoming you back to Monte Casone next time you plan to visit Tuscany!
The village of Ghizzano is only three kilometres away from the estate. There, you will find a bakery and very typical grocery store / bar.
The closest supermarkets are 15 minutes away, San Gimignano and Volterra are 30 minutes away, Pisa is 40 minutes away, Florence and Lucca are 60 minutes away and Sienna is 90 minutes away.
Gastronomes and lovers of truffles will be delighted to discover or rediscover the pleasures of Tuscan cuisine. There are numerous restaurants in the region and generally they serve excellent food.
ACTIVITIES IN THE REGION:
In addition to the towns of major historic interest such as Florence, Sienna or Lucca you can discover such pearls of the Tuscan heritage as San Gimignano or Volterra. And to relax a little, there is nothing better than a game of golf in the neighbouring hillsides or a relaxing massage in the thermal baths of Casciana!
