Nestled on a quiet Dutch beach, these beachfront cottages provide the ultimate in serenity and relaxation. The cottages rest directly on Burgeaux Bay Beach in the Beacon Hill area of St. Maarten. Surrounding the cottages are grounds filled with palm trees, floral gardens, and breathtaking views. Neighbored by other private homes, these cottages allow you to spend a quiet and restful time. But, should you desire to venture out for fun and excitement, you are only minutes away.
Spend your days relaxing on Burgeaux Bay Beach or explore the many activities spread throughout the Dutch and French sides of St. Maarten/St. Martin. Curl up in one of the beach hammocks with a great book or a good friend. Dine al fresco or sip on your favorite cocktail on the beach side patio. Star gaze above at the full moon or catch a nap as you take advantage of the cooling trade winds. Watch the sun set on another perfect day at this tropical paradise or head out to a nearby restaurant.
We have been vacationing on St. Maarten since the mid 1960's and have been the proud owners of this property since 1968.
'Member since 1996' Burgeaux Bay Beach Cottages purchased this cottage in 1968
We were on a Windjammer cruise in the mid 1960's when our boat came on rough weather and seas. Our boat somehow made its way to St. Maarten, where some local people were awaiting our arrival. A retired American couple living on the island took us in to their lovely, quaint beach front property, where we stayed for the remainder of our trip. We continued to visit this couple in St. Maarten for the next several years until they decided to return to the U.S., at which time we purchased the property.
The cottages were originally used as fishing cottages for some of St. Maarten's notable families. The prior owners used the cottages as studios for their artwork. The cottages have remained in their original state over the years, with updates made for modern conveniences. In addition, large patios were added to further enjoy the beautiful beach view.
We really enjoy our little piece of paradise and hope you do to.
A retreat & paradise. Brought too many clothes – simple and free. Reminder of the book “Gift of the Sea” Shed our troubles and float them out to sea.
Couldn't ask for a better place to spend a vacation. We spent a fair bit of time travelling the island but at the end of the day we couldn't wait to escape to our private and quite patio to BBQ our dinner and watch the sun go down. The property is well kept, private, and is in close (walking distance) proximity to many ammenities and beaches. The owner provided useful information about the island and the caretakers were always happy to answer any questions and provide suggestions. We would not hesitate to re-visit this location or suggest it to our friends or family.
We were so pleased with the cottage and property on this private beach. The view is probably the best from anywhere on the island. On clear days, you could see Saba island with the cruise ships passing in front. Such a great way to spend the morning while having some coffee. Then evening, watch the sunset while the sailboats were coming back from the days adventures. All this while sitting on the cottage terrace without any crowds. No worries about getting the best seat because its yours every day. The cottage may be secluded but it is within walking distance of many great places to eat and party.
Rebecca and Cato are the best. They left us to our privacy but were available if we needed them. The cottage and grounds are well maintained thanks to the both of them. The cottage is equipped with everything you could ask for except Wifi which we could have cared less about considering our surroundings. Its very difficult to describe the perfection of this property. You just need to stay there.
Our suggestions if you visit: Saba island is a must see. Try to climb to the top of the volcano. Maho beach is a great place to spend an afternoon to watch the planes land and take off. Try to go on a day that the cruise ships are not in. Spend a day on Simpson Bay beach and sit at Karacters. Great bar and beautiful beach and you can walk there from the cottage. All the restaurants in the area have wonderful food.
The information that Jeanne, the owner, provided was invaluable. Thanks for a great time and we will be back again and again and again.
I think that says it all! As avid vacation renters (and owners), we have searched high and low for that special, unique, and private beach experience that the Studio and Terrace offer. You can try to find something better (we all do), but you'll be wasting your time.
From the breathtaking views of the private beach and ocean, to falling asleep to the crashing waves on the shore, to the "diamonds on the water" a few hours every night before sunset, this rental offers an unparalleled experience for the romantic in all of us.
Cottage and grounds are well-equipped and maintained. Rebeckah does a great job with her daily cleaning service.
Even though the beach is private and the neighborhood residential, you are within a short drive to everything under the St. Maarten sun: restaurants, shopping, casinos, night clubs, piano bars, karaoke, public beaches, fishing, scuba diving, grocery stores, etc.
Thanks again Jeanne! You have created something magical for us and we cannot wait to return.

My husband and I spent 11 nights in the studio in February and like many before us fell in love with this quaint little cottage. We found the studio, along with the fabulous big deck to be ample space for the two of us. The property was lovely and very private. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck watching the cruise ships sail past each morning and then back out each night as the sun was setting. You can't ask for a better location. Although we had a rental car and traveled around the island you could quite easily get by without one as everything you need for a great vacation is within walking distance. There was a small but well stocked grocery about 5-10 minutes walk and about a dozen restaurants also within walking distance. Rebecca kept the place clean and tidy for us and even did our laundry one day! We did have a couple of minor inconveniences which the owner addressed promptly. The cottage is starting to show its age a little bit but nothing that a coat of paint won't solve. We would love to return one day soon.
Comfortable accommodation for a couple, sleep to sounds of the surf from the beach just steps beyond the patio. Some might think that the lack of air conditioning is a problem but given the typical year round climate on Sint Maarten - highs of 80, lows of 75F, that is irrelevant. Besides the beach right in back, there are several beaches within walking distance, also a good food/drinks market and other shops. Check the location of Beacon Hill Rd on Google Earth and note proximity to luxury condos and hotels.
We had the opportunity to stay at the studio for five nights. The studio is quaint and has everything you will need. The views from the porch are amazing. The privacy is the best quality.
You are within walking distance to Sunsets Bar and Grill and can watch the planes land. You can also walk into Majo for good food and a casino. You are also close to Simpson Bay that has a lot of restaurants and a beach that is very large and offers you a lot of places to choose to lay claim to your own space. Simpson is also where a lot of the excursions leave from. Just note there is a bridge that opens at certain times of the day and cause serious traffic delays. Be sure to find out what time the bridge is going to open and try to avoid Simpson at those times.
My favorite part was the "guard" dog "Beacon. He was very friendly, liked being walked and slept in the studio with us.
The place is starting to show its age, but for the price you would be hard pressed to find anything better. There is a grounds keeper, Kato, who stays in a small cottage on the compound. Roberta comes every day to clean. Roberta was very nice and did a great job.
Also, dealing with the owners was easy. They sent a wonderful packet of information prior to the trip that included suggestions for what to do while there. Beaches, restaurants, sights, etc.
