Peaceful house in a beautiful quite country area

  • 4 of 5

A nicely presented traditional house, with a specious terrace with views across the lake and stunning countryside beyond.

Well equipped kitchen and dinning area, all kitchen equipment of a good standard and we wanted for nothing here.

Triple bedded room in basement was cool in the hot days with a well equipped shower room.

Upper rooms, were spacious and fitted to a standard, would have greatly benefitted from a fan or two as we visited in the hottest summer and the house has sun on it most of the afternoon. Upper bathroom small but usable.

Outside space good but more shade would help while using the patio and a sun lounger or two would have been nice, the chairs were a little tired and the two deck chairs weren't safe to use.

All in all a comfortable well equipped house but need a little TLC, the few other minor additions I have mentioned would improve it.

Gorgeous chalet in quiet location with stunning views. Relaxing get-away . Helpful friendly owners

  • 5 of 5

Property: Lovely spacious chalet set on the mountainside amongst the trees. There is large patio area in front of the property which offers seclusion with stunning views. Plenty of space to relax outside. There are two french doors which open onto the patio, so even if it rains you can sit in shelter and still enjoy the countryside views. Next to the chalet there is a track which leads up to the mountains so you can walk straight into the mountain countryside.

The property is well equiped with oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, large upright fridge/freezer and washing machine. There are two upstairs bedrooms with double beds and storage. There is a small bath/shower upstairs. The bath fills from the showerhead (takes a few minutes, but does the job). On ground level there is a large open-plan kitchen-dinning-living area. Basement has a further bedroom (has windows, as is set on a hill), utility room, shower and toilet.

Surrounding area: There is a small village (Merpuis) which has a cafe / creperie / bar which is walkable in 10 minutes. A little further on from this is the riverside where you can have BBQs / swimming. The views of the mountains whilst swimming in the river are amazing. There are easily accessible walks straight from the house (take a map / compass if walking in the mountains!), or for those wishing to stick to tarmac, the Route du Bugey can be followed - winding roads with splendid views. There is also a larger village (Poncin) which is 10mins drive and has a couple of bakeries for bread / morning croissants etc. There are various cafes / bars / restaurants there. There are supermarkets 15min drive (Super-U / Intermarche). Another highlight is the Isle de Chambod - a small island on the other side of the river and visible from the property. To get there you have to drive, to cross over the bridge over the river. The island has a cafe and is family friendly. There is a small charge to get onto the island, but once there, there are swimming areas with roped-off areas of different depths (suitable for any age), and lifeguards present. It is possible to hire kayaks or peddleboats (lifejackets provided). The island is dog-free, has showers and toilet facilities and you can spend a pleasant day there.

The property is a great base to explore the wider area.

Owners: We found Alexandrine and Charlie very helpful and friendly. They are always available to give helpful advice by text or email or phone. Highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

The closest shops are in Poncin, 7km far from the chalet. We find everything there: bakeries, butcher's shop, press and tobacco, Post office, Bank ... All gathering on a nice little place of this picturesque village, which also welcomes every Mondays a little market for local products.

The closest supermarket is Super U Pont d'Ain, 17 km away.
