Our house is in Alta Ampurdan, considered to be one of the most unspoilt regions of Spain. Moreover, our tiny village, La Vall de Santa Creu, is in the middle of a Parque Natural, situated at the head of a wild and beautiful valley, in sight of the famous medieval monastery, San Pedro de Ro des. The 1.5 k road up from the coast ends in our village. There is no through traffic. We are on the edge of the village overlooking the hills and in the spring the valley is full of wonderful birds and flowers, perfect for walking. Mid June to /September there is a restaurant and beer garden in the village. Our nearest beach is 2 minutes away by car ( 15 minute walk) and there are countless other beaches and rocky coves around. We are 3ks from the lively and attractive Port de la Selva (no high rise anywhere in sight!) which is full of restaurants and shops. Within half an hour there are countless places to visit - picturesque Cadaques, home to Salvador Dali, Perelada with its international music festival in the castle, Greek and Roman remains on the coast in Ampuries and many other medieval towns and villages. Our local market town if Figueras, well worth a visit with its fabulous Dali museum, and Gerona, historic regional capital an hour away.

What makes this Cottage unique
The front door of the house is on the middle floor where there are two twin bedded rooms and a bunk room, a shower room with lavatory and another separate lavatory, a sitting room and a small kitchen with fridge, sink and microwave for preparing drinks and lunch outside, and a door to the garden. The two en suite double bedrooms are up separate staircases to the top floors, one with its own private balcony. The whole of the ground floor is taken up by the huge vaulted dining room/kitchen with refectory table seating 10, separate small table for young children, two sofa/seating units and a wood burning stove. In the kitchen area there is a gas cooker/oven, dish washer, sink and cupboards. There is also access to a lobby with a large fridge freezer and shower room with washing machine and lavatory. This room, with its antique Catalan furniture and the long table which has seen so many memorable family gatherings over the last 40 years is the highlight of the house – perhaps only capped by a late night brandy on the roof terrace looking out over the moonlit valley and mountains and the floodlit monastery above
