We bought Bankhayes in 1997 and have made a few alterations and extensions over the years. There is an aerial photo on the upstairs landing of the house around 1960. There is also a copy of the auction details when it was sold in 1956 as Bank Farmhouse. We believe that the core part of the building dates from the mid-eighteenth century.
There are five bedrooms: three with double beds, one with three single beds and one small room with a single bed. There is also a z-bed which can be moved about the house. There are two main bathrooms upstairs and a shower/toilet downstairs. On the ground floor there are two reception rooms with log fires, a well-stocked kitchen and a large conservatory for dining. There is also a study room and a utility area.
The house is pet-friendly (within reason). There is a large area for parking at least 4 cars.

Wonderful plave for an extended family holiday
A really lovely large cottage, with plenty of space for 11 of us. Property was just as described, with the large well-tended garden perfect for children and adults alike to enjoy. We spent most of our time outside on the patio, or in the large conservatory (or glass compartment as our youngest described it). Set in a quiet valley, but close enough to many Dorset attractions, the location was perfect for us. Our first time using an Aga didnt cause a problem, although we did appreciate the electric hob. The owners provided excellent info on the house and surroundings too. Don't ignore the splendid village shop or local pubs. We'd love to return in the future.
Stayed at this cottage foe a week family. There was 9 of us and plenty of room, even if you wanted a bot of space to yourself. Isolated and quiet, which was perfect for is. The pub 2 minutes walk was friendly and services fabulous food particularly for the price. Plenty to sight see locally, the local cider is worth a try. We spent our evenings sat in the conservatory playing games whilst others sat I the lounges reading. A relaxing week and I would recommend this property for a large family wanting a bit of quality time.
Excellent property in an idyllic location, a couple of good pubs in the village as well as very friendly locals and all within half hour of the coast.
We particularly enjoyed taking our two boys (two and four) on the recommended walk around the local area, ending in a pub lunch in the brace of pheasants in the neighbouring village of Plush.
Great place to escape to or use as a base to explore the local area.
The cottage is perfect for a large party, plenty of space and great amenities. The garden is fantastic and we had trouble getting the children to come in. Ideally situated, nice pub within walking distance. The family had a great holiday.
A lot of space and quietness
We stayed with tour adults and give teenage children for one week in this family house. The garden is excellent for sitting and playing speedminton. You wake up with only the sound of birds and the water of the Piddletrenthide streaming by. We made beautiful walks through the fields. Our dog loved it too. Furthermore we visetend Stonehenge, Stourhead, Bath and more. At the end of the day there was good food cooked on the Aga, and open fire in one of the sitting rooms. It was quite an experience for all of us!
Piddletrenthide stretches along the beautiful Piddle Valley in the heart of Hardy's Wessex. It is about 7 miles from Dorchester and a further 7 from Weymouth, the location of the sailing events for the 2012 Olympics. Weymouth and many other beaches can reached in just 30 minutes. This is the World Heritage-nominated Jurassic Coast. Over the hill from Piddletrenthide is Cerne Abbas with its famous Cerne Giant. Piddletrenthide is Longpuddle in Hardy's novels and there are many other Hardy locations in the area, including Waterston Manor (Weatherbury Farm), Puddletown (Weatherbury) and Dorchester (Casterbridge). Visitor attractions nearby include Brownsea Island, Corfe Castle, the world-famous Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum and Abbotsbury Swannery. As well as Weymouth, excellent beaches can be found at Burton Bradstock, Bowleaze Cove, Osmington, Swanage and Studland. Piddletrenthide straddles the B3134 which is reached from Puddletown on the A35. It can also be reached from the north via Sherborne on the A352. On a good day it takes about 2 hours from Heathrow or the M25.
