Dear Leslie & Gordon,We have so enjoyed spending our week in Maine at your cottage. It's just as comfortable as home, with all the extras that everyone would like to be surrounded by - the ocean - the trees, woods - nature at it's best. Thanks for letting us bring Molly, Who hasn't stopped purring since we arrived. And thanks for going out of your way to help us out with the cage situation.YOu, and the people of Maine in general, are the greatest!Hope to be lucky enough to return soon.Thank you - for everythingSally and Phillip Dilley
We were blown away at the view when we arrived at this quaint cottage. The cottage was immaculate, and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. We were surprised at how many attractions were so close to this area. We had a very fun filled week. Leslie and Gordon could not have been more accommodating. We were told of a beautiful sand beach about a 5 minute wooded walk from the cottage and what a treasure! We hunted for sea glass and even did a little swimming. We had brought a picnic with us and had a scruptuous buffet on the beach! Our days started out with a blueberry muffin and a cup of coffee on the deck, watching the lobstermen hauling in their catch. One lazy afternoon, I took my book down to the shore in front of the cottage and lounged in the sun on my lawn chair. What a beautiful place for a midnight bonfire. On our one foggy day, we found puzzles, games, and were surprised that the sattelite TV had the pay stations, so we had plenty to do. One day, I asked Leslie where I could get lobsters and, low and behold, her husband is a lobsterman, and brought lobsters right to our door. He even gave us a lesson on eating them. Here is a wrap up of our day excursions: Mount Batty (beautiful views), Ferry ride to Monhegan Island, shopping in Camden (and saw the Windjammer ships), the Farnsworth Art Museum (Andrew Wyeth central), and here is a list of the many lighthouses we visited (Owls Head Light, Marshall Point, Pemaquid, and our furthest adventure to Acadia National Park and the Bass Harbor Light). Wow, what a week. We will be back. Overall, it was our best Maine vacation ever!!!
We love coming to Spruce Head. We have come for the last three years. It is in a beautiful location and the cottage has everything we need, including in the kitchen. I love to cook and Leslie has just about everything. It's also easy to get to lots of places for day trips including Owl's Head, Port Clyde, and Rockland. The hard decision is whether to relax and enjoy the view or go out exploring. We stay in a lot of different places, but this is the one we make sure we come back to.
We've been coming to mid-Coast Maine for many years but have always stayed with relatives. Recently they've moved, so we were stuck finding our own place for only the second time, and that place had to be dog-friendly. We really lucked out with Leslie's Spruce Head cottage. The pictures really don't do it justice and we spent part of every day looking at how all of the blues of the water and the sky complimented the grey of the rock and the green spruce. Our dog loved the big yard as well and enjoyed spending time with Leslie's pup Pilot.
The house is well stocked with linens and towels, blankets, cooking implements, and basics like salt and oil. The cottage is on the smaller side, but was fine for our needs as we were only two adults and one dog. The main point of the property, for us, was to spend as much time outdoors and we were lucky to have mostly perfect weather. If you are traveling with your pet(s) please note that they are not allowed on the second floor. This wasn't an issue for our dog, but would have been for our last pup who had to sleep wherever we did. Leslie is extremely responsive and very friendly, so it's nice to be able to recommend her property.
This was our first time staying with her and she was a thoughtful and generous host. It really is absolutely world class for views, I doubt that there are many places that have these views for any money, let alone the very reasonable price that it cost for us to spend a week at the cottage. Location wise, it's an extremely private and beautiful place and you really do feel like you're in your own world (check out the sand beach just up the rocks) but at the same time it's an easy drive to Rockland, Route 1, Camden, and other places north and south if you feel like going out to eat or forgot a bottle of wine. Would definitely stay again, what a piece of paradise.
The cottage was amazing, right on the Maine coast with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Our hosts were so friendly and warm. it was the most relaxing time and with the fresh air from the cold waters of the Atlantic. It was superb and we will be back to experience the beauty again.
Immaculate ocean front cottage. Exceptionally furnished and well maintained. A great place to call home for a week. Thoroughly enjoyed this area. Walk to lobster restaurant and harbor. Excellent location close to attractions shopping and restaurants. Cottage owners reside on premise. Gracious hosts. Always available to meet your every need. Cottage and area exceed my expectations . I can't wait to return and would definitely rent this same cottage. My little dog loved the spacious deck and walk to the beach. JoLynn and Max, Belleville IL
This cottage was immaculately clean, as always. We love the location, the privacy, and the proximity to attractions in the area. I would certainly recommend the cottage to others. A perfect combination of a real get-away, with beaches, lobster, the Farnsworth, Monhegan Island, Port Clyde, Camden--so much to do in this area.
On an enclosed bay south of Camden on Coastal Route 1, Rockland is a central waypoint for travelers. Landing ports and ferries to and from Northhaven and Vinalhaven Islands are available. Rockland is surrounded by bays, peninsulas, rivers, lakes, and inlets. The Midcoast exhibits tremendous natural beauty. If you're looking for the authentic Maine experience, this is it. The Rockland-Thomaston area is the entry point to Penobscot Bay, perhaps the most scenic body of water on the eastern seaboard. Here you'll find islands, historic lighthouses, and protected harbors filled with working lobster boats. Ospreys and bald eagles nest along the rugged shores, puffins make the islands their home, and harbor seals make their annual pilgrimage to quiet coves. While nature is at the core, hospitality is the rule of the day. Here you'll find outstanding restaurants and galleries and first-class museums. This is the Lobster Capital of the World and home to the country's largest windjammer fleet.
