Nestled between the medieval Bastide towns of Monflanquin, Villereal and Monpazier, La Balie sits in 10 acres of rolling countryside and consists of a collection of 18th century farm buildings including 3 beautifully restored cottages. Both Le Pigeonnier and La Grenouilliere have three double ensuite bedrooms, La Lavandiere has two double ensuite rooms.
La Balie is ideal for families or groups of friends for whom it offers a stunning location to relax, share meals and explore the beautiful countryside of the Lot-et-Garonne. It also provides a great venue for special occasions such as weddings, birthday celebrations or other special events.
There is a wonderful, heated, salt water pool, with plenty of room for all guests to relax and enjoy the sunshine.
Superbly situated for touring the Dordogne and the Bastide towns of Aquitaine, La Balie is only 10 mins drive from Monflanquin and there are many leisure activities in the area including horse riding, canoeing and kayaking, vineyard visits and traditional local markets.

My husband, myself and 2 daughters (17 and 21) enjoyed a fabulous holiday this summer at La Balie. We stayed in most nights to make the most of the beautiful views, stunning location, fabulous accommodation. It was an incredibly relaxing stay close to attractive bastide towns which had fabulous markets. We also went canoeing along the Dordogne. Our cottage was beautifully furnished and immaculate. We would thoroughly recommend La Balie to anyone. Fiona, who owns the 3 cottages and lives on site is a wonderful hostess, extremely helpful and friendly. We would love to return some day.
We were here as a family and were really impressed by the set-up. Fiona met us with bread, cheese and a bottle of the local rose! She was available if we needed her but you never felt 'watched'. The pool is the best we have ever had in a rental property and even though it is shared it never feels crowded. Well maintained and a really pleasant place to while away a few hours. La Balie is that rare thing, a place that lives up to and actually exceeds the expectations you have from the photos. Good location for visiting the bastide towns and castles. Lots of local markets (day and night) to visit too. We stayed in Le Pigeonnier and it was a great space for us to relax in for the week. All the rooms have ensuites, modern fittings and good shower pressure! The children were delighted that they could watch CBBC (after a week of French satellite elsewhere!) Also well equipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery, large fridge/freezer and even a washing machine. There are also plenty of towels and beach towels for the pool.
Very well appointed gite with beautiful pool. Great location, well away from the crowds but within easy reach of a number of pretty bastide towns, not to mention some excellent vineyards. Communication with the owner was easy and reliable, couldn't ask for more. Would thoroughly recommend this to anyone!
Just come back from an amazing stay at La Balie. We spent a week enjoying the first class facilities and stuffing ourselves on food from the local shops and markets. However nothing could prepare us for the wonderful meal our host Fiona provided us for a family celebration. Without doubt the highlight of a wonderful week. Will definitely be going back
We have just been looking at availability for next Spring and were inspired by the other reviews to write our own after our visit to La Balie earlier this year. We stayed at La Balie shortly after Fiona became the owner and were hugely impressed with everything about it - the location, the pool big enough for a decent swim, the quality of the accommodation and the pretty local towns and villages with great markets. Fiona's welcome and attention to detail were the icing on the cake. It is unusual for us to holiday in the same place more than once but we plan to do so here. A recommendation indeed!
La Balie was the perfect holiday retreat for a family with children. From the moment we arrived it was clear that every effort to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable had been thoughtfully considered. We were warmly welcomed by host Fiona, who took great pride ensuring guests were well looked-after. The property was delightful, and immaculately presented, with thoughtful touches all round. The setting was idyllic, with an abundance of local activities. The swimming pool was ideal for young children, with a graduated shallow end. All mod-cons including satelite tv and wifi was there for those who wanted it. It's one of the very few places we've been to where the experience exceeded the expectation.
45 mins from Bergerac on the Dordogne river La Balie is ideally situated to explore the beautiful countryside of South West France. With the historic Bastide towns of Villereal, Monflanquin and Monpazier within easy reach, kayaking on the Dordogne and Lot rivers and two excellent golf courses there is plenty to do and explore.
Daily markets producing exceptional local produce and wonderful vineyards to vist will provide you with an excellent source of local delicacies or if you'd rather dine out there are three One star Michelin restaurants nearby and plenty of cafes and less formal restaurants.
