About Colleen Jones & Jim Fantuz
Hello. My name is Colleen Jones. My husband, Jim Fantuz, and I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and currently work as professionals in our city of 1.5 million people.
Colleen Jones & Jim Fantuz purchased this House in 2006
Why Colleen Jones & Jim Fantuz chose Pieve Santo Stefano
We chose this property for a number of reasons but primarily to provide us with an opportunity to own and experience a part of 'la dolce vita' in an area of Italy that is virtually unspoiled, private and yet, very close to all of the food and culture that you could possibly want.
What makes this House unique
This is truly an unique villa situated at the southern, sun-catching edge of a small medieval hamlet (Brancialino) on 6 hectares (15 acres) of private property. The house and 4 terraces provide breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside; the Alpe de la Luna to the east, Lago de Montedoglio and Appenines to the west, all set in a wonderful rustic landscape of orchards and vineyards. The 400 year old structure offers all the amenities of a modern residence whilst maintaining the character of its 'rustic italiano' origins. Day trips are typically the rule here; Assissi, Gubbio, Lago di Trasimeno, San Moreno, San Leo, Bologna, Arezzo, Cortona, Perugia, Siena, Anghiari, and Monterchi, to name but a few of the towns and locales within a 1 1/2 drive from the house. Of course, you can always take an overnight trip (by car or train from Arezzo) and visit the major cities of Rome, Florence, Milan, and/or Venice. Local restaurants favour Tuscan cuisine at prices that will leave you wondering how it is possible to serve such fabulous fare a such reasonable prices. These are restaurants frequented by the local populace; their success testament to 'non-turistico' clientele. Culture is abundant; Michaelangelo was born 20 minutes away in Caprese, St. Francis roamed the valley of the Tiber River on his way to La Verna (20 minutes from the house) and Piero della Francesco heralded from nearby Sansepolcro. His painting, Prato Madonna (the only known depiction of a pregnant Madonna), survives and can be viewed in nearby Monterchi. So, in summary, WHY THIS VILLA? It's unique location in the heart of eastern Tuscany affords you the opportunity of an authentic Italian experience (without having to deal with hordes of mind-numbing tourists) all within easy reach of major cultural, historical, and culinary centres.

Incredible experience, beautiful location, warm and welcoming home. Over the top amenities, close proximity to magical day adventures. Let the bird songs fill you with joy while you feast your eyes on layers of light that carry from hilltop to valley while feeling like you can reach out and touch the billowy clouds in the sky.
Awesome experience in Tuscany/Umbria
We had such an outstanding time at I’ll Castello. The renovated farmhouse is beautiful and a treat to stay in. As well, The owners left a bunch of great information that helped us to maximize the enjoyment from our stay. We went to wineries, had great meals in Sansepolcro and relaxed on the beautiful terraces that’s surround the house. If you were looking to experience Italy and really relax, Il Castello is the place for you!
Perfect Tuscan property
We absolutely loved our time at the property. It is picture perfect beautiful and our hosts were wonderful. It tucked away in a quiet little area where you feel like you have escaped from the world! It is a bit of a drive from major Tuscan tourist attractions(ie: Chianti, Florence, etc), but that only enhanced its appeal for us. We would love to stay there again the next time we are in Italy!
A superb villa- a gorgeous stay!
We had a fantastic time. Peaceful setting, incredibly well equipped, amazing pool, loved being visited by the dog and cat! We had a brilliant stay!
Sublime and peaceful
Great property in an awesome location.
Everything about the place oozes charm and character.
The pool was a welcome relief from the heat and after 4 weeks traveling it was the perfect place to stop and unwind.
I would recommend this place to anyone
A little piece of paradise!
What an amazing experience! Not only was the villa a cozy home (with STUNNING views) to wake up in and come back to after adventuring in the region (I will come back to this later!) but I have to give a shout out to Colleen Jones (the owner) who was an absolute pleasure to work with. Colleen was not only available to answer all my crazy questions about the villa, sleeping arrangements, home chefs (note - the dinner prepared by Monica was one of the best meals we had while in Italy!) ....but also provided a treasure trove of information on where to go, what to see in the region and how to get there! Start to finish she made the process so very easy. Thank you, Colleen! Now the villa… if you are looking for a picture perfect place to call home in a less travelled part of Tuscany – you have come to the right place. The home is a cozy 3 bedroom – our group of 6 fitted perfectly. It is spotless, lovingingly decorated and the beds (and bedding) are cozy and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with all you need to prepare a meal (you have to buy your own groceries from Sansapolcro – just about 20 mins away. And yes, you will need a car.) The living room had a TV with Roku – so the kids had plenty of entertainment! The pool is sparkling and was used often – even though it was a little chilly. But what just blew us away was the spectacular beauty that surrounds you. I truly enjoyed just sitting outside, taking in the views and thanking the universe for the blessing of being able to enjoy such beauty. From the rolling hills, to the lake views, to the tall pines (and at night …. The tiny fireflies that light up the path ways)…it was all like out of a picture book! We met the neighbors, who were lovely and shared their bounty of cherries with us, and last but not least – the boys loved visits from Lassa the dog (and his little scruffy friend!) Colleen and Jim’s home in Branchellino was a little piece of paradise. We all agreed that after the hectic time in Rome and Florence – it was just a dream to spend time in this less traveled part of Tuscany and call Il Castelletto home, even just for a little while! We hope to be back and will definilty recommend this home to all our friends.
The house is located in a small rural hamlet in eastern Tuscany, and within an hour's drive to numerous historical cities, towns, and villages including activities such as: vineyards (grape/wine & olive); etruscan, medieval, and renaissance towns and monasteries, fabulous restaurants, local and international shopping, local markets (meats and produce), museums (art and history), and hiking trails.
