About Michele Lemmon
This house has been in my family since 1926 when it was given to my grandparents by their parents as a dowry. My husband and I purchased it in 1984 when it was put up for sale and, after extensive upgrades, we are happy to share it with others. It is truly a family house, full of history and memories. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Why Michele Lemmon chose Auvers
Families and groups of friends can enjoy the privacy, space and charm of our restored early-18th century farmhouse 'La Porte Rouge' located in the small village of Auvers, 5kms from Carentan at the base of the Cotentin Peninsula.
What makes this House unique
Tranquility, privacy, comfort and space! Near many historical sites such as the D-Day Landing Beaches, the Mont Saint Michel and the Bayeux Tapestry. This is the area where the best cream, butter and cheeses are coming from! The coast provides fresh seafood: mussels, shrimps, oysters and crabs. Don't forget the fresh caramels and the calvados! This is the best of Normandy!

Beautiful farm house with everything you need for a great holiday!
The house is in secluded area of the Norman countryside, and strikes a great balance between relaxation (the house has a well stocked kitchen and games cupboard, and we loved sitting by the fire reading) and sightseeing (there is a lot to see in the surrounding area including the D-D Beaches, Mont St Michel and the Bayeaux Tapestry). The house is very spacious and suitable for larger groups and families. Can't wait to return!
You are right - this house, full of history, is so welcoming for a large group of 14 persons and we would be happy to welcome you back!
Lovely house in a terrific location
We had a wonderful stay in September. The weather was cool with on and off rain, but the house was cozy with a fire in the fireplace. The garden and grounds are stunning. I highly recommend this house. And I highly recommend having Madame Touzard prepare a meal while you are there. Her cooking is fantastique!
The house is in the middle of the American sector of the Battle of Normandy and very near both Utah and Omaha beaches. It is incredibly moving.
Thanks to Michele for all the helpful advise and for providing such a charming house.
Remote, rustic, wonderful.
The second time I've been to the red door was full of lovely things to re-explore and a few new surprises from being there in a new season. The late autumn gardens still blooming, the marshes foggy and beautiful, the bike rides crisp and sunsets spectacular.
We kept the home fires burning, cooked and ate until our bellies bulged and found moments for singing and communion in all parts of the property. Plenty of space for hunkering down and cozying up.
Gorgeous magical place
What a gift this place is.
I've twice had the opportunity to stay here with groups of friends – it's an ideal spot for a retreat or vacation.
I'm well familiar with the property and area as it's been my grandparents & aunt's property, so I've also been there many times for family reunions & vacations... the whole region is gorgeous, and the home is just enchanting.
There's wonderful things nearby like the market in Carentan and easy day trips to beautiful places and historic sites (D-day landing beaches, the memorial museum in Caen is fantastic, both the tapestry and cathedral in Bayeux, Mt. St. Michel etc) ...
Really my favorite things are to wander the hedges picking blackberries, walk around the "block" aka a few mile loop through the marshes, do some yoga on the lawn and read a book by the fire.
It's a magical place of retreat that nourishes the soul. Well worth a stay!
If I could move here, I would!
La Porte Rouge is everything it claims to be and more! The house itself is fantastic. It was clean and well-maintained. It is at the end of a narrow road and, quite frankly, I have not slept so well as I did here. We spend a wonderful Christmas week and enjoyed home cooked meals, fabulous French wines, game nights, and fires in the fireplace and wood-burning stove.
La Porte Rouge is conveniently located and we were able to see the Bayeux Tapestry, D-Day beaches and museums, and Mont St. Michele. We were also closed to the center of Carentan, which provided access to two supermarkets and the local boulangerie.
We arrived late on the 20th, but the Lemons have a contact (Madame Touzard) who was able to provide a home cooked meal (with wine) and deliver it to us at the house shortly after our arrival. The meal (roasted leg of lamb, mashed potatoes, haricot verts, and a great bottle of wine) for five people was under 100 euro. Having just come from Paris, that was an amazing deal and the food was awesome.
There really aren't enough superlatives sufficient to describe La Porte Rouge and our stay there. There is still so much for us to see and do in Normandy so we will definitely be back and plan on staying here again.
So glad that you love our home as much as we do! Thank you for your review and come again!
Wonderful and Peaceful Normandy Residence
The house was very spacious and well kept. Everything worked well and was comfortable. We loved the windows and the beautiful flowers in the window boxes. The grounds were so beautiful and peaceful. We sat outside as much as possible and just enjoyed the scenery. The different trees and flowers were so fun to walk through - we decided to take many pictures in front of the rose bushes. We took many walks up the driveway and on the walking path. It was great exercise after the wonderful cuisine that Madame Touzard prepared! It was so special for her to make two of our meals and she was very patient with us and so kind.It was a very special trip and we are so glad to have found La Porte Rouge!
Many enticing attractions are within easy reach: the D-Day landing beaches, WWII museums, Mont Saint-Michel, Bayeux tapestry, the English Channel Islands, etc. Sports such as horseback riding, bicycling, tennis, golf, swimming and sailing are available nearby. The beaches, 10kms away, are very safe and quite beautiful.
