About Chris Mortensen
Hey, it's Chris. So Carolyn and I grew up in Alberta but our paths never crossed until we were both fortunate enough to experience the Malibu Club community while working for Young Life through summers on the Sunshine Coast. Carolyn organized food and guided mountain trips for the Beyond Malibu hiking program and I ran the food services for the Malibu Club cranking out up to 1200 meals a day for the high school aged campers. We were both too busy to really take any time to connect romantically but finally seven years down the road, we both found ourselves back on the Sunshine Coast and sparks flew. ;) Being Alberta transplants there was never really any doubt that BC would be our long term home. Who could really go back to winters at -25 degrees? Ummm, not us! Once our time wrapped up at Malibu and we were happily married, we decided to make Sechelt the place to throw down roots. We bought our first house, had a beautiful baby boy (Kaiden) and got to work doing all those responsible grown up things that people tend to do. All this time I would listen to Carolyn's "one day" dreams of being close to the water and enjoying time on the beach every day. "We're like a 5min walk from the water" I'd say, "What more do you want?" Well little did I truly realize that Carolyn is a woman of big dreams and even larger levels of drive. Fast forward to 2016 and here we find ourselves in negotiations to purchase this waterfront property. Carolyn had viewed this house 5 years earlier and set her sights on making it happen. Well, through the modern miracle that is bank financing and the hard work of my lady we made the purchase official in Jan 2016 and moved in to our dream home. The place where we planned to grow old together... or so we thought.

Very clean, has all the things one could need, great view, super nice people, will definitely be coming back!
My wife and I had a great stay at this property in September 2019. Property was even nicer than we expected from the photos, and the view was incredible. We cooked most of our meals at the house...the kitchen was great, had everything we needed and was stocked with some of the basics. Would love to stay here again!
Great location. Beautiful view. We had a wonderful time! Loved our stay and the hot tub. We were even graced with a seal and Herron sitting on the floating docks one morning.
Nice clean property in convenient location. Great base to explore the sunshine coast.
Saw whales and seals in the straight right in front of the property.
The property owner was very helpful when some unexpected construction started next door.
We just completed a 2 week stay at this stellar property and were thoroughly impressed. The views of the ocean were fantastic and we enjoyed many evenings just taking it in. The house is well laid out and very well equipped. The kitchen had everything you would need to prepare elaborate meals on those nights you chose to stay in.
The location is very convenient for commuting to Sechelt (<5mins), Farmers Market at Roberts Creek (~10 min), and trips to Gibsons (30 mins). The IGA just north of Roberts Creek (~5 mins) had the best selection and best quality produce of the three local grocery stores (others are Independent Market (#3) and Claytons (#2) )
Both beds were comfortable. The upper deck (without a stairwell to grade) provides an excellent vantage point for pets without having to worry (same would hold true to small children). There is a resident neighbour (senior couple) to the north with a deck that 'looks into' this house, but we found they were always considerate of our privacy and could often be found on their decks enjoying a glass of wine together while looking out to sea.
When any questions or concerns came up during our stay, their property manager, Leah, was easily reached and took care of it right away.
My only quibble leading to the 4/5 stars on location, is that it is on the Coastal Highway which is busy all day, leading to some excess noise. But it was quiet at night when you needed to sleep and did not take away from the enjoyment too much during the day. One big benefit is that there is a bus stop right at the driveway, which makes merging off the busy highway much easier.
We would definitely consider renting this house again for a future holiday.
We have stayed at the Selma Park home several times & will continue to go back as often as we can. We LOVE it, the location right on the ocean, the spectacular view , the hot tub, the beautiful & comfortable home, easy check in & the pleasant owner & manager make your experience SPECTACULAR.
