We are a family from Rhodes and we built the property ourselves, originally to live full time, we built the stables and the house to fit with our lifestyle the area is perfect, close enough to Rhodes and half way to Lindos, the area is peaceful yet close to all the amenities, beach side tavernas, bars and souvenir shops.
However we have found as our girls have grown that we are spending more time in the town and at the riding stables on the west coast, however as with everything in life things change as your family grows, we decided to rent our beautiful home for holidays! and I am positive the location the surroundings and the relaxation staying here brings will give you a memorable holiday!
Built with our family in mind it is a private property surrounded by natural stone walls, a quiet location and yet just 5 minutes to the beach, restaurants, bars and busy shops we built our bungalow to enjoy our family weekends and holidays many fun filled days with our children, friends and family, swimming eating bbq's and relaxing entertaining by our lovely pool. Surrounded by pine scented trees which blow softly in the evening breeze it is our perfect place and I am sure you will agree once you visit!!
My family & I stayed here in July 2016. The Weather was fabulous every day.
The villa is lovely & spacious & very clean. The pool is fantastic & it really is a hotel sized pool. Every room had air con which was much needed when we stayed.
The grounds are kept beautiful & very well maintained.
There is no maid service for the period of your stay, so towels, bedding etc do not get washed unless you wash them yourself. (there is a washing machine in the villa).
We did find shopping difficult as no supermarkets nearby or ones we travelled to by car, sold any salad or fresh meat all, so we couldn't have a bbq, which was disappointing. The only items we could buy were tins, pasta, breakfast etc.
An information folder would have been helpful advising where the best places were for food shopping & for any helpful advice should anything go wrong in the villa. The electric had tripped out in the kitchen & we had to call the owner out . My husband would have sorted it out but we didn't know there was a fuse board by the front gate to the villa as well as one inside the villa.
A Hire car is definitely recommended to get around & see other areas. We drove to Lindos town (half an hour by car) which is really pretty with loads of great shops & places to eat along little cobbled streets. There are a few places to eat in Kolymbia but not a lot to chose from.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday at villa Madia & would recommend it.
We had a lovely relaxing week at Villa Madia. The villa was immaculate, and very spacious and tastefully decorated. The gardens were pretty and very well maintained. The villa feels very private and safe. The pool is outstanding!
TIP: Include the cost of a hire car in your budget so that you can use Villa Madia as a base for exploring the pretty parts of Rhodes.
TIP: The owner can arrange a driver to pick you up from the airport and I would recommend this because the villa is hard to locate if you're not local to Kolymbia (there are no door numbers on the street!)
This was our first visit to Kolymbia, Rhodes. Unfortunately the town centre is dead all day until about 9 - 10pm because most of the resort hotels are all-inclusive. This means that there's zero atmosphere in bars and restaurants until late at night. When we stopped by a bar during the day for refreshments, we were very often the only people there - and this was at the end of August! There were also very few restaurants to choose from in the evening. Overall Kolymbia feels like a bit of a ghost town and I don't know how the local bars and restaurants can survive with competition from the all-inclusive hotels.
We punctuated our stay with a couple of day trips using the local bus service (the nearest bus stop to Villa Madia is about 7 minute walk). The nearest supermarket ('Zeus' in the town centre) is about a 15 - 20 minute walk. There was a small hotel souvenir shop about 3 minutes walk from the villa where you can buy ice-cream, drinks and crisps. Given the location and limitations of Kolymbia, I felt that a hire car would have made our life a lot easier and would have allowed us to explore some of the prettier parts of Rhodes as well as seek out nicer restaurants elsewhere - however, we had unfortunately not budgeted for a hire car.
We somehow managed to disturb the settings of the security alarm at the villa so that it beeped every 5 seconds! We couldn't find any instructions to deal with this problem so had to contact the owner to come fix it.
TOURIST INFO AT VILLA MADIA
It would have been good if there was a folder containing tourist attraction information within Villa Madia. We had to rely on the rather temperamental wi-fi in the villa to find out about the local attractions. In any case a hire car is required to visit the attractions.
I have rated Villa Madia 4/5 because it is necessary to hire a car to make the most of a stay here.
Ideally located in the very popular resort of Kolimbia with its beautiful beaches and bays, excellent tavernas and busy cafes, perfectly situated, half way between Rhodes town and Lindos and just minutes walk to the beach, shops, cafes and tavernas,
A few minutes drive to some of the most popular beaches and surrounding attractions on Rhodes, Afandou golf club, Ladiko and Anthony Quinn beach, Tsambika beach, the beautiful village of Lindos one of the most visited places in Greece with its maize of white washed houses lined with souvenir shops, restaurants and crowned with the ancient acropolis, and just a few minutes will take you to the lush green Seven springs!
One of the largest waterparks is just a couple of minutes away in one of the many hotels which is open for use at a small fee for those not staying in the hotel.
Kolymbia is a busy resort with an abundance of restaurants and cafes plenty of souvenir shops it also offers regular bus services to the areas of Lindos and Rhodes town as well as other areas so if you don't wish to drive during your holiday !
Madia is completely private with a remote entrance the grounds are more than 4,000m2 and the pool is a hotel sized pool it is a perfect for family and friends to get away private yet close enough to walk to restaurants, bars and the beach.
