This hundred year old pueblo house is situated on the accessible GR7 trans Iberian walk and is the hub for many other walking, cycling and riding opportunities.
It was restored simply using natural materials within the metre thick walls. There are 2 doubles and one twin bedroom,a small patio, with table chairs and a barbeque which overlooks an almond orchard and mountains beyond.
Alcutar is still a primitive village, but does have a bar and bread is delivered daily. Fresh local vegetables are in the church square on Wednesdays as are meat and fish.
All normal mod cons are supplied with limited TV, DVD, microwave, electric heating, efficient wood burning stove, and a washing machine.
Fans to cool in the summer.
The beds will be made up on arrival, towels provided, and cleaning undertaken by Carmen at the end of your adventurous holiday.
A swimming pool is nearby in the El Cercado resort which also offers a spa and a restaurante. Other restaurants are in nearby Berchules and Cadiar.
The Sea is an hour away.
Regret it is not handicapped friendly..
The access road is steep as are the stairs.
Car parking is on the area just down the lane.

I am a qualified English nurse and at the time had opened a clothing/ alternative items shop in Cadiar. With the financial depression I was forced to seek nursing where there was a need , in the Costa Blanca and so moved to Jávea with my daughter.
Owner purchased this House in 2006
Why Owner chose Bérchules
I was introduced to it whilst in the local bar one night, fell in love with the village and spent the following year restoring it. It has new wooden floors, double glazed windows, and the 'cow stalls' converted into the third bedroom. The internal doors were unchanged and the supporting beams lovingly restored.
What makes this House unique
The Alpujarras mountain range on the south side of the Sierra Nevada offers the opportunity to step back in time. All the small white villages cling to the hillside, the flat roofed houses have slate roofs supported by large tree trunks. The area is unspoilt, the population still working the land.

Lovely quirky, cosy house.
Had a very good time in this unusual holiday home. It was very clean and well kept. The stairs are extremely steep, which was mentioned in the advert so was not a surprise. We couldn't get the television to work and without WiFi, was able to have an undisturbed restful break away from the hurly burly way of life back home. Only downside was our stay was far too short.
So glad you enjoyed your short visit to the Alpujjaras and found the house as you expected. Yes it has its own personality and the contrast, as you say, makes it all the more a valuable respite from the technology driven world we are now subjected.
The TV should have provided sky news and a few other programmes, and there is quite a large selection of dvds for use in the new player. ( maybe a little dated ). 3G signals are very strong .
I hope you had the opportunity to visit the local mountain villages and numerous walks in the area.
Very rural and a complete contrast to the normal rat race of life. Fields ploughed with mules, sheep pass the door. A pig lives next door.Neighbours will walk kms to pick their produce.
Only an hour to Granada and it's history.
Great beaches to the south.
The Alpujjaras villages with their flat roofed, white houses are dotted along this south side of the Sierra Nevada.
This area is crossed by the GR7...part of the renown routes for walkers across Spain.
Each local village also has well marked hikes around them. So drive to a local village, say 10/15 kms away....after a beer, walk in its local area and back to a late lunch...if you haven't taken a picnic.
The weather, being at 1000 + metres, is cooler and more refreshing than on the coast. Snow will be visible on the Sierra Nevada peaks all year.
A local resort, El Cercado, has a pool, spa and restaurant...about 15 mins walk.
It is difficult to explain how therapeutic a holiday in the Alpujarras is...just try it.
