-THE LOCATION - ACTIVITIES - SIGHTSEEING
The picturesque town of Aegina with its multitude of bars, cafés and restaurants is just 2,5 km away from the house, approx.30 minutes of easy walking. (You can also rent bicycles in town). Alternatively, call a radio taxi to take you to the town, for a mere 4-5 euros.
The road which passes in front of the house runs along the seashore from the town of Aegina right to the tip of the island where the fishing village of Perdika is situated. The total distance is about 10kms of mostly level road dotted with small harbors, beaches, bars, cafés and seafront restaurants. You should definitely explore all of it !
Wherever you stop for swimming, refreshments or dining, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the islands of Agistri and Moni, and the Peloponese mountains reflected over a beautiful sea. From Perdika you can also take a small boat for a short hop to Moni island for swimming.
If you don’t feel like moving too far, swim right in front of the house. (You even have your very own beach umbrellas, recliners, chairs, beach towels & cooler).
Or walk just 100 meters to AQUA LOCA, a beautiful organized sandy beach with bamboo umbrellas and a fully licensed bar that also serves food. (Operates 15 June to 15 September). The water is warm and shallow, safe for toddlers and small children. The bar also operates at night, and you can enjoy your music and drinks right there on the sand, sitting or lying on the lounge chairs, with a beautiful moon reflected on the water right in front of you.
After having explored the town of Aegina and its antiquities, take a taxi, a bus or your rental car to the famous Aghios Nektarios church & monastery, and the ancient temple of Afaia Athina nearby. Continue towards Aghia Marina with its huge sandy beach and multitude of hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants and on your way back in the evening, be sure to take the road which runs along the northern shore of the island, giving you spectacular views of the Saronic gulf and the lights of Athens and Piraeus in the distance. You must give this excursion a full day.
Of course, if you prefer, there are guided tours of the island as well.
While in Aegina, you can also visit the small island of Agistri (about 3,5 nautical miles away) for a full day of swimming and exploring, or take a boat to the picturesque Poros island (only about one hour by ferry)
Another MUST DO if you are in Aegina in the summer, is to go to the open-air cinema for a movie. Once common in Greece, they have become more and more sparse in the last decades, but you can still find a choice of two or three in the town. Films are first rate and very recent. There is no stereo Dolby Digital 5 channel surround sound, but you sit in the open, every two chairs separated by a small round table, and you can watch the film while drinking your cold coke, beer or orange juice or eating potato crisps, pistachios or even your souvlaki !
Last, but not least, indulge yourself in other activities Aegina has to offer, like snorkeling, diving (there is a diving center in Aegina), music and dancing bars (dozens) sailing school for children, sightseeing and bicycling.
Aegina is superbly suited for vacations of families. It is quiet enough for the older members, while having enough activities and nightlife for the younger ones to enjoy themselves.

Well, I am in love with Aegina, obviously...
I enjoy swimming, water skiing, boating, wine and the simple good things in life, like a good book, an interesting film, quality time with friends. And, most of all, the ultimate prize: Family !
Oh, and of course, vacationing ! Who doesn't ?
Vacations are sacred for everybody. They are VERY hard-earned, rather rare, expensive, but oh SO GLORIOUS when all goes well !
In a way, they are a whole year's worth of living, squeezed in a very few very precious days. The fond memories of last season's vacations, and the sweet anticipation of those to come, help us all survive the cold dark winters in-between.
We realise this of course, and that is why our guests NEVER just get a merely superb waterfront place to stay. That is never enough. What we try to get for them in addition to that is unforgettable vacations. Also a local friend, communicating, advising, helping, suggesting, solving any problems that may arise, being on call 24/7 for them. Before, during and after their stay. Our guests are not "customers". They are friends. So we will do everything in our power to ensure that your precious vacation in Aegina will be everything you anticipate and more, and that upon leaving you will take with you only sweet fond memories afterwards.
And I am proud to say that this way I now have friends in France, Denmark, Germany, the UK, Norway, Canada, the USA...and still counting !
Konstantinos purchased this villa in 2001
Aegina is only an hour from Athens and it is feasible to live there and commute to the office in summer, so it seemed like a great place for summer vacations ever since we started a family.
It's warm and shallow beaches are ideal for toddlers and children, so we started renting there every summer since 1987. My mother in law would stay with our two children while my wife and I commuted to work all summer, and (of course) we spent our annual leave there as well.
As the years passed, we fell completely in love with the island.
The people are open-hearted and friendly, the life is relaxed, prices are cheap compared to Athens. There are dozens of beaches and hundreds of tavernas, restaurants, bars and cafes. Sunsets are spectacular, and the weather is always sunny. Even in July and August, with scorching heat, Aegina is cooler than Athens, being an island.
So we started looking for a place of our own. Being on an island we wanted something right on the waterfront. That is not always very easy, and years passed without finding what we were dreaming of.
Just as we were about to settle with something lesser, we found this amazing piece of land available in 1998. Its location was so superb that we never thought we could afford it, but we asked anyway.
Eventually we decided to make an offer for the land and build a few years later, when we would be able to.
The result? This superb villa on one of the most beautiful spots on the island !
What can we say? We built it as we dreamed it ! Spacious, modern, luxurious, and with sea view from every bedroom window, every balcony and every veranda...A place to relax, a place to enjoy life in, a place to allow you to breathe and recharge your batteries ! Not just a "rental"... a dream house !
Thank you, thank you ! First of all, for meeting us in Athens and traveling with us to Aegina to make sure we are properly checked in and comfortable before leaving us in your superb house to enjoy our week of rest ! Second, for your "little book of big secrets" with everything from suggestions on where to eat out, catalogs for takeaway food, even phonetic instructions on how to call a radio-taxi in "Greek" ! Thirdly, for your free welcome basket of wine and fruits ! Last, but not least, for your 24/7 support !
The house was everything we expected and then some ! We didn't enjoy the beaches of Aegina of course, (visited in March, still too chilly for a swim) but the island is fantastic. We even had a chance to hop to Athens for sightseeing and still make it back on the same day.
Top point of the house, the verandas and balconies - we practically lived there all day long
I am a math schoolteacher, so I definitely give you an A+ !
We (three couples from from Pennsylvania) just returned from a fantastic vacation in Greece. Our second week we stayed in Kostas' and Polly's lovely villa, and it was the best decision we made! The villa is very comfortable, sunny, well-appointed, and clean. We had more than enough space and privacy for each couple. The kitchen was modern and well-supplied for the meals we cooked. There are great porches and decks for lounging and soaking up the sun.
The best part of renting this villa is the friendship with Kostas. From our first inquiry about the villa, all through our return to the airport (even following his scooter with our rental van to maneuver the harrowing traffic from the ferry in Pireaus to the highway leading back to the airport!), Kostas helped us with so many details of our trip...off-season car-ferry schedule, car rental agency, reservation for dinner at a great roof-top restaurant in Athens (Avissinia Cafe). He is the best host!!
Also, their 'little book' about the villa has great suggestions for making the most of life on Aegina. Kostas has even translated the Greek menu for a home-delivery pizza place in town (advise: order the Aegina pizza--fabulous, topped with the local pistachios!).
We took several hikes, and swam at great beaches, including Marathon, where we ate lunch at a taverna right on the beach. This was off-season, so the closest beach at Aqua Loca was closed. We took the ferry to Agistri, which also has nice beaches and tavernas. The fishing village of Perdika has great tavernas too. We had great meals everywhere!
Bottom line...GO VISIT GREECE!! It's a beautiful, friendly, and affordable country. If you go on the shoulder season you'll have the best of everything without the crowds. And if you stay in this wonderful villa, you'll be able to explore the beautiful, diverse, and easily accessible island of Aegina.
Next time we will stay longer! Thank you Kostas and Polly!
We travel Greece every summer for vacation and to visit relatives. We are always on the look out for the "ideal" vacation home. This wonderful villa fits the bill in almost every aspect.
It's perfectly situated, close to a kid friendly beach. An easy walk along the water leads you to an organized setting with chairs, umbrella, and most importantly, coffee! We have several young children in the group and packing for their beach days tend to be a huge hassle, but since we were so close to home, we can just amble back to get anything we forgot to bring. It's a short drive to the port town of Aegina, which is perfect for dinner, evening stroll, and ice cream. The house is also just a short drive to beaches down the coast and we took opportunities to explore the island. Everything was easily within reach.
The house itself is clean and well maintained. There were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone in the family. There are multiple verandas around the house, so you can find shade during almost all the daylight hours. The living/dining area is spacious and perfect for board games and crafts for restless kids. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking full meals. We had several family dinners that included no less than 10 people. The yard was plenty big for kids to run around and since it's an enclosed yard, we never worried about them getting into the road.
I cannot speak enough about the gracious welcome that we received from our host Kostas and Polly. They made us feel immediately welcomed. They provide you with a introduction booklet that has all kinds of tidbits to making your stay on the island easier. All the restaurant recommendations were spot on! Kostas was easily reachable by cell phone for our questions, but quite honestly, there was little that we needed to request since all was provided.
I wholeheartedly recommend this villa if you're looking for the ideal vacation home for your family. You will have a wonderful stay.
We think that the house was even better than the pictures on the website. It was looking good, and it was clean. When we arrived there was some fruit and drinks in the kitchen. the house included everything we needed. The owner met us in Pireus and was available on e-mail and phone during the whole stay. We loved the garden, and we used the beach, both just outside the house, the loca beach and the beach in town. We were two families in the house, and we all had alot of space, and we could all eat together on the kitchen balcony. We also used the outdoor kitchen several times. The cafe's and restaurant's in Aegina town are all cosy and nice. And the walk from the house to town is beautiful, about 3 kilometres. It's a bit dark in the evening though. We went to Athens twice during our stay, and we had some trubble with the boatcompany one time, the Hellenic Seaways gave us very poor service, and treated us very unprofessionally. But we had a lovely time in Athens.
We will recommend anyone that needs space and comfort to rent this lovely house at Aegina, and we are very happy with the way we were treated by the owner.
This is a great house in a great location. It has everything you would want for a short or long stay, and the host, Kostas, was delightful and showed us where everything was and how it worked.
This was our second stay - it was worth coming back to.
The rooms were surprisingly large for a Greek property, even the bathrooms.
From the front of the house you look out at the sea, and only a couple of minutes walk is a beach bar with free sun beds, although you are expected to buy a drink or food. But the snacks are good, so you can stay all day.
Enjoy your stay - we certainly did.
We had a wonderful time. The villa was great. I was a perfect place to relax and enjoy the island of Aegina. No need for a pool, we had the Mediterranean 50 meters from our front door. The villa is very well kept clean, spacious, and very comfortable for a family of 6. Kostos, the owner was terrific. He met us at the airport and brought us to his villa via ferry. He made the trip from Athens easy and stress free. He was extremely helpful and assisted us with our inquiries throughout our vacation. I would definitely recommend his villa to any of my friends and relatives. There are lots of shopping and restaurants town which was a short taxi ride away. Our ATV rentals and self tour of the island was a great way for the family to cap off a wonderful stay.
I can thoroughly recommend this villa rental whether you are a family on vacation or a group of friends wanting to get away from it all. I booked a week at the villa with work colleagues towards the end of June and we were all really pleased with the choice we made when we arrived. The description on the website is very accurate and if anything when we got there the photos don't do justice to how large the house is or how clean and well prepared it was.
Kostas who rents out the property is extremely welcoming and was very organised in communicating with us before our arrival. Preparing the villa for our arrival by supplying detailed instructions on how to work all the utilities, advice on the area, local attractions to see and recommended places to eat. A pleasure to deal with and a great host.
The villa itself is immaculate inside and out and is very well appointed. We wished for nothing as its fully equipped, and soon we got into a lovely routine of breakfast on the back verandah, lunch at the nearby Bar Aqua Loca (just 100 metres away on the beach which was a nice, clean and relaxed family friendly place for lunch/drinks or just sunbathing/swimming). Then back to the house and cocktails on the front verandah watching the sun set. For the night time we popped into Aegina Port and tried out the many bars and restaurants available. A really lovely town with great bakers, a fish market and a very good butcher, all by the harbour if you fancy cooking at the house.
The villa's location means to walk to the nearby town would be a little strenuous in the heat (about 2.5km - I ran there and back which took 25 mins) but hiring a car/moped/quad bike in Aegina Port is easy but do what we did and just get taxis everywhere. A call and a taxi was with us in never no more than 5 minutes and only cost 5 euros for 4 into town. Very cheap.
There are plenty of bedrooms, nearly all with sea views, aircon and insect screening if you want to keep the windows open. The interiors are well appointed and with the place being so large, if one wanted to find a quiet corner to read a book or such like, you had more than enough options.
So a great place and one that I cannot recommend enough. We would certainly consider going back to the house, as it was very easy to travel to from Athens and its location means you can get away from everything or very quickly and easily be in town or on the beach.
This luxurious waterfront villa is ideally located about 2,5 km from the port and town of Aegina.
A lovely sandy beach is right in front of the house. Just take your own beach umbrellas and lounge chairs, open the garden gate and cross the road that passes in front of the house for a cool splash.
(Some properties in Aegina are much further from the town, located on a steep hill - great for the view but not-so-great for going to the beach or the supermarket - you WILL wish you had a car!)
From the verandas and balconies, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Islands of Agistri and Moni and the Peninsula of Perdika during the day. At night, enjoy soft music and drinks and the view of the moon reflected over the silver water.
The town with its almost limitless choice of bars and restaurants is just a short hop away. If you are not in a hurry, give it a leisurely stroll of about 30 minutes of easy walking. Or call a radio taxi, and they will come within 5 minutes, and take you to town for a mere 4-5 euros…
-The nearest restaurant is called 'Manitas on the beach', just 5 to 10 minutes away on foot, right in front of a tiny fishing harbor... But if you would rather not go out for lunch or dinner, but can't be bothered to cook, you can also order takeaway food over the phone and have it delivered to the gate.
-The villa is situated on the road between Aegina town and the picturesque villages of Marathon and Perdika, which means you can spoil yourself by choosing in which beautiful waterfront bar or restaurant, among the dozens along the route, you will have your drinks, lunch or diner.
-A beautiful organized sandy beach with bamboo umbrellas, long chairs and a fully licensed music beach bar called AQUA LOCA operates just 100 meters away from the villa. The water is warm and shallow, perfectly safe for toddlers and small children. Use their lounge chairs all day for free – just buy a coffee or a coke from the bar. The bar also serves finger food when you get hungry.
-Don’t forget to visit Aqua Loca bar also at night. Enjoy their music and sip your drinks watching the moon reflected over the calm water ... an experience not to be missed and never to be forgotten.
-While in Aegina, take a full day to visit the picturesque island of Agistri – the boat ride is just a short hop of 10-15 minutes - or visit the lovely fishing village of Perdika, from where a fishing boat will take you in just five minutes to the island of Moni for a full day of swimming and exploring – departs every half hour or so, all day long.
-Explore the ancient Greek temple of Afaia Athina, the famous monastery and the church of Aghios Nektarios, the patron Saint of Aegina who lived until 1920. He is the most recent Saint of the Greek orthodox church, officially becoming a Saint in 1961.
-Make sure you also see Aghia Marina, with its breathtaking long sandy beach and stunning night view of Athens on the opposite side of the Saronic Gulf. Once a small fishing village, it has evolved into a location catering almost exclusively to the tourism industry, especially from the UK, with a multitude of hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants.
-Take a day to visit Athens as well. Boat rides take from just 40 minutes (hydrofoil) to about an hour or so (ferry) with almost hourly departures – you mostly don’t even have to make an advance reservation, just hop on. There are travel agencies in Aegina who will help you in advance with booking your tour of Athens and the boat timetables, making sure you will return to your wonderful villa in Aegina on time for your dinner and some relaxing drinks…
