I Would Rent It Again in a Hearbeat

  • 5 of 5

This wonderful cozy cottage is clean, comfortable, and sits on a lovely high spot overlooking the bay. It has everything a small family or two couples need for a relaxing time off the grid. The hammock, screened in porch with plenty of seating, firepit, grill and Adorondeck chairs were all we needed for enjoying the outdoors while at home. We were amazed that it was truly the quietest place we had ever been...no sounds except for the wind and falling acorns could be heard. The locals at the little grocery store and at Georgetown Pottery just up the road were friendly and helpful about where to go and what to see. Rockland, Boothbay Harbor, and Acadia National Park, as well as plenty of others are within easy driving distance. We were especially interested in local art, and there is plenty. We found the Trip Advisor app to be extremely helpful in taking us down winding roads to artists studios where we found truly talented local artists of all ages. This app also took us to the best pizza, local. music and just about anything else you would want to do.

Owners Dave and Susie could not have been kinder or more responsive from my first email to my most recent. Little touches of home like comfortable beds, fluffy towels, coffee and homemade cookies waiting for us, and just about everything else you need were supplied. They also have a National Park pass and plenty of books for your enjoyment during your stay. We can't wait to go back!

Owner's Response: It was truly our pleasure to host you. I'm so glad you enjoyed reading Shoutin' into the Fog by Thomas Hanna. His story of growing up in the Five Islands area of Georgetown in the Depression really made me want to explore and visit every place he mentions in the story. We love providing books to help give our guests a feel for the area. By the way, the next guests said "Thanks" for the items you left in the fridge. Hurry back!

Terrific Cottage

  • 5 of 5

As usual, had a terrific time at the cottage this summer. A few years ago I discovered this gem that suits so well. It's a great base from which to visit with local family and friends in the summer. It's remote enough to give you space to breathe, but close enough to enjoy lobsta', the beach and just hanging out.

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us again this summer. We agree that the cottage is a gem. Perhaps you will return during blueberry season so you can enjoy blueberry cake with your lobsta' dinner.

Another great stay at Whispering River Reeds!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at the cottage. It's in a beautiful location, right on the water. The cottage is always very clean, and is in very good general condition. It's the perfect size for us and our two kids, though you could fit more. Can't beat the location in Georgetown, very close to Reed State Park, which is spectacular. In general it's an amazingly beautiful area to visit. Great lobster at 5 Islands a few minutes away, and close to other great food (especially breakfast at the STarlight Cafe in Bath) and great non-seafood alternatives in Brunswick. Also not far to Boothbay, which we love to visit for the aquarium and botanical gardens. We'll be back!

Owner's Response: We were very happy to host you and the kids again this year. I'm glad you got some use from the hammock! Next year, try the Osprey restaurant in the Robinhood Marina. Gorgeous views, new management and closer than Boothbay for a quick dinner.

Perfect vacation get-away!!!

  • 5 of 5

This rental was better than expected! There is truly a view from every window. We enjoyed the sunset on the water almost every evening.

The rental was clean, and had every amenity you would want. (We prepared many of our meals there and they had everything.) The interior is cozy and welcoming. Every morning we enjoyed our coffee in the screened-in porch soaking up the view.

Very quiet and peaceful - for those who like privacy and seclusion.

Activities we enjoyed included hiking in Bradbury State Park, the beaches of Reid State Park (bring bug spray), and trips to Rockland (Farnsworth Museum), Bath and Freeport.

The Georgetown Country Store was a great resource and also had the best lobster rolls ever!

Restaurants we enjoyed included The Osprey in Georgetown, The Beale Street BBQ in Bath, and Archer's On the Pier in Rockland.

I would highly recommend this beautiful, comfortable and roomy rental to all my friends. Also for kids - there is an adorable loft.

Susie and Dave answered all of my many questions and were perfect hosts!

A truly terrific find.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. You certainly went to some of our favorite places. Bradbury Mountain is great anytime of year. We annually hike there when the foliage is at its peak. Come back and visit in the Fall!

Great out of the way place

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd trip back to Maine over the last 21 years. The cottage was off the beaten path and not in the tourist section. Yes it is a little drive out but well worth it. The owners provided the items they said they would along with a few extras like charcoal, coffee and cookies were there as a treat when we got there. The screened in porch was where we mostly stayed in the evening to listen and watch the boats on the river. The cottage is well kept and maintained. Even though we did not meet Dave and Susie, when we had questions we e-mailed them and they got right back to us. Would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us. Glad you liked the cookies. Salted Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cream together: 6 oz. shortening, 1 cup sugar, 1 TBS molasses Add: 1 flax "egg" (1 TBS ground flax seed, 3 TBS warm water - allow to gel) or 1 egg Mix together: 2 cups oatmeal (not quick cook), 1 cup whole wheat flour (spooned), 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. baking soda. There is no salt within this recipe. It comes later. Add oat/flour mix. Add 6 oz. chocolate chips or, for variation, add 4 oz. Craisins. Drop by teaspoon full onto parchment or Silpat lined baking sheet and press down slightly. Sprinkle with salt. Bake at 350 for about 7 minutes, turn front to back and top to bottom. Check after another 4 minutes. Hope we get to meet you next time.

We had a wonderful time at Whispering Reeds Cottag

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Whispering Reeds Cottage. The cottage was very nice and clean. The kitchen was well stocked, the sheets and towels were provided and it even included a pass good for admission to all state parks. We had 3 people staying for the week and the cottage was a good size. We enjoyed sitting on the screened-in porch where we good feel the breeze and enjoy the view.

Owner's Response: We are lucky to have Reid State Park (one of the best beaches in Maine) only a few miles from the cottage. We are happy to hear that the Park Pass came in handy. Hope to see you again.
