We enjoyed our week in September

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week here - eagles flying by in the morning, beautiful sunsets across the river in the evening. The screened porch was our favorite room. Enjoyed the fire pit several nights (after temperatures dropped enough to quiet the mosquitoes).

Lots of good reading in the house about the history of the area (and more at the local history museum nearby - you'll go there anyway to use their internet connection).

Beds were comfortable. Our Verizon phones got good service at the house.

Yes, get lobsters (and chowder) at Five Islands (check as soon as you get in about when they're open).

Our favorite hike was to the Squirrel Point light house. It's in the process of being restored, and we got to talk with the folks who are actually doing the work. Great walks along Marrstown Road.

Tour the downtown and old residential neighborhoods of Bath.

Read the house descriptions carefully about amenities: no internet at the house, spotty - at best - TV reception, etc. Know what to expect. Those things may be improved over time, so pay more attention to more recent reviews/descriptions than this one.

Bottom line: a nice house, great location = great week.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for staying with us. It really is a small world that our children work at the same place and know each other. We hope to see you again next time you are in Maine.

Simply Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Our week at Whispering River Reeds was perfect! We loved the location and the cottage was exactaly what we were looking for! So peaceful, quiet, fully equipped, and with many thoughtful extras. The location allowed us to see so much of the area. It was wonderful coming back each night to this peaceful riverside location. We have traveled widely and we both felt this is one of the finest lodging accommodations we have found on Home Away. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We will be recommending your gem of a cottage to our friends.

Wish we were still there -

  • 5 of 5

This was so relaxing and a wonderful place to be. The owners take pride in maintaining this cottage and are very thoughtful. We arrived and found such a nice welcoming gift. Unfortunately, my companion ate the cookies before I had a chance to have one :) We were far enough away from the hustle and bustle yet close enough so we enjoyed our daily excursions as well as the local beach, parks and villages. We visited the Maritime Museum in Bath, LLBean in Freeport, Boothbay Harbor area and Orr and Bailey Island areas. A wonderful Park in Bath and if you stay be sure to go to Reny's - a pretty neat store. The cottage has wonderful water views and sits on a bluff so you can see the water when you wake up and anywhere from outside or inside. We will look forward to our next stay at Whispering River Reeds.

Owner's Response: He ate all of them? Remind me when you come next year and I'll leave a double batch. PS - I'll hide the extra in the freezer...he'll never know they're in there. Glad you discovered Reny's. It is, as they say in their advertising, "A Maine Adventure". You can find just about anything there.

Wonderful serene, scenic cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We loved every day we spent at Whispering River Reeds Cottage. Nicely, comfortably decorated. All our needs our needs were supplied. The porch is so restful and great for early morning coffee. As for the yard, the view, fire pit, hammock, Adirondack chairs (my favorite), again the VIEW....what more could one ask for!!!

If you need a get-away from the mad rush, this is your place!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words and the wonderful note you left for us. We hope you will come back again! Also, you win the prize for leaving the cottage the very cleanest this summer. I would proud to have my mother-in-law inspect it. She has white gloves.

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

This sweet cottage was just the right size and set up for our family of 4. Our kids, 4 and 7, loved their bedroom and the 7 year old loved escaping up to the loft for some quiet time. The cottage was very clean, clutter free, had everything needed for cooking and felt very calming. I loved reading on the screend in porch at night. Outside, the kids loved the hammock and we loved the water views. The only thing I didn't get enough information on prior to booking (my fault) was that there is no shore to access. There is a path to get down to the water line and once down there it's all ledge. I was a nervous wreck watching my kids navigate this! The cottage made for a good home base and we enjoyed Reid state park several times, ate at 5 islands and loved that little farm stand on the way. We discovered a tiny beach just before you get to 5 islands. There is a right hand turn and a little nature preserve with a path down to a small sand beach and rocks to explore and a walking path. The owners were very helpful, kind and easy to contact. I would reccomend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet peaceful getaway.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Amy for your sweet words. Reading on the porch is my favorite pastime. I just finished A Man called Ove by Fredrik Backman. Loved it. My all time, best book I ever read is The One in a Million Boy by Monica Wood. Hope you get a chance to read them both.
