Surrounded by trees, lake and nature, all comforts and amenities are extended to visitors here. This is a private and safe setting. Heated and air-conditioned, there is a fireplace in the living room and bedroom. A large oval deck leads from the living room and looks out onto the water as does the bedroom's balcony. A row boat sits at the water's edge. This three level house has an all wood interior with wide pine plank floors throughout and vaulted ceilings. A sleeping loft acts as a second bedroom with window and skylight. The bathroom's sloped ceiling also includes a skylight over a claw-footed tub sunk in Mexican paving tiles. Original art and objects along with some turn of the century antiques add to the warmth and charm of this very original and unique home on the lake. Internet access and HD TV available. Beautiful in all seasons.
Through renting my house and having been introduced to the beauty of this lake and the many things it has to offer, there are now several additional property owners with homes of their own in Sleepy Hollow Lake.
While definitely away in the country, every convenience is nearby. It's a lovely, still fairly secret and uncomercial spot, nestled in the foothills of the Catskills.
We had such an amazing stay at this serene, beautiful house. The photos just don't fully capture it... it is so much better in person! I found it to be open, airy, clean, extremely well-designed, and decorated with a sensitive, artistic touch. My husband, one-year old daughter, our black lab and I swam in the lake together every day of our stay, plus we had a lovely day of shopping in Hudson. Donna, the owner, was extremely responsive, kind and informative.
We fell in love with the place... hope to return very soon!
My boyfriend and I had a lovely weekend with our dog at Donna's house. The house was clean, bright and open, and was very charming - the pictures in the listing were very accurate about all this. I loved sitting out on the deck and watching the lake, especially at sunset. The house was stocked with all the basic necessities, and the A/C was very much appreciated. I found the bed quite comfortable, even though it was only a double. We used the charcoal grill every night, and the kitchen was also very functional. The path from the back of the house down to the water was a little overgrown, but that didn't bother us - my boyfriend still took out the rowboat for some fishing, and we preferred taking our dog a short ways down the street to the doggie beach anyways! Donna was very helpful with providing directions to the house and doggie beach, and some tips of local places to eat and get supplies. The community had other great features, and I wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of them all! I think this is a great house for a couple or a family with kids. We would definitely come back here!
This house itself really is perfect and sweet, a lovely place to get away from it all. The area is a beautiful lake community filled with extremely friendly people. Overall, the vacation was nearly perfect, so five stars from us! The only downsides were all things that were very personality-dependent and might not be downsides for anyone else.
Pros: Beautiful house with nice little touches of personality; nice deck to sit on and watch the sunset over the lake; a loft that my husband might still be reading in if I hadn't dragged him away bodily; beautiful lake with rowboat; friendly neighbors; community center with pool and small sandy area with a lifeguard; close to Hudson, a great town for window or actual shopping, and a vibrant hipster nightlife; nearly everything in the area is dog-friendly, including a dog park nearby and a "doggie beach" on the lake. The kitchen in the house comes fully stocked with condiments, spices, dishes, and many other kitchen tools you might need. Finally, the owner Donna was very responsive and helpful.
Cons: All the "beach" areas are really just dirt and grass at the edge of a lake. Still beautiful, just not very sandy. The lawn leading from the house to the lake on this property is very woodsy, which isn't bad, but there's no lawn really to sit on and look at the lake. Everyone on the lake seems to have motorboats and waterskis, which are not available to rent...just kind of made us wish we could have access to water sports. Finally, the bed in the bedroom is only a full, which is somewhat small for us, but is a twin-size futon and a pullout Queen couch in other rooms for other sleeping options.
Those were really the only cons! My husband, dog, and I had a relaxing weekend, with great outdoors activities for the times we were feeling restless. I highly recommend hiking in the nearby Catskill mountains (dogs allowed off leash) and going to Hudson for dinner/drinks at night. Oh, and a bubble bath in the tub :)
This house is an absolute gem -- cozy, comfortable, clean, and equipped with all the amenities you could need (including an *amazing* bathtub!). The deck is huge and overlooks the river to the west, so it's the perfect spot to relax and watch the sunset, and inside the cozy fireplace is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine and a movie. Donna was incredibly accommodating, helpful, and easy to get a hold of when we had questions. Would definitely recommend, and plan to re-book in the future! Thank you Donna!
We stayed at the House for three nights four days. The owner was wonderful giving great directions and giving us a heads up on where the local grocery stores are and some good restaurant recommendations. The house is super cute and perfect for a trip Upstate..The house was nicely decorated had beautiful view of Sleepy Hollow Lake. We went to Hunter Mountain for the day which was only about a 40 minute car ride. Had lunch in Woodstock which was only about 30 minutes away. A really nice centrally located home away from home. Would definitely recommend the house.
My husband and I enjoyed a quiet holiday weekend in this charming little cabin. It has an open and airy feel and gets plenty of natural light, which was just what we were looking for during our escape from the city. Most of all, we really liked the coziness that came with the fireplace and the view from the deck.
The owner, Donna, was very helpful and responsive during the booking process. Just as we were about to get on the train back to the city, I remembered that I’d left an extremely important bag back at the house (like a genius). Very luckily, Donna was able to be in touch with the community’s security personnel who quickly helped me get back into the house to retrieve it. Whew!
We hope to return for another relaxing and rustic weekend!
