very relaxing escape in beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cottage 5 weeks prior to arrival - it was the last in a serious of attempts to get accomodation in this general area. and I sure was glad that all my other searches were booked up. This turned out to be such a great treat, much more than I had hoped for. I wanted to book a nice house that was within an hour of belfast and drogheda so i could take kids to Titantic/W5 odessy and also funtasia in drogheda. We could have not gone to either of these in the end as there was so much to do around the area of carlingford and Newry. The cottage itself I was worried about as photos never seem to prove successful to me when booking but this one was exactly as photo if not even better. It was so cosy, so clean, had everything, location great, and the welcoming committee was exceptional. I had never got that level of service and I rent alot of houses. We were greeted very warmly by Gerard and Maureen and the table was laiden with scones and cakes which after a 3 hour trip late friday evening this was very much appreciated. I would recommend this house as well as this area to anyone who wants to escape in a comfortable setting and very friendly area with lots of fresh air ! (Fiona - 2 adults, 3 kids 11, 9, 4)

Exceptional & Very Enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

The house was very comfortable for our family of four adults. Every room in the house was tastefully furnished and made us immediately feel at home. The sitting room was cozy, dining room very comfortable and the kitchen was exceptionally well stocked. Gerard (owner) was there to greet us even though we had a late evening arrival. He had Christmas decorations set up inside and outside the cottage, Christmas music was playing and there was a choice of hundreds of CDs from a server ((sitting room, dining room and sunroom are wired for music). A lovely meal was waiting for us and the refrigerator was stocked with milk, orange juice, etc. Definitely would recommend Essmore Cottage to anyone considering a vacation in this part of Ireland. We enjoyed the nearly villages of Omeath and Carlingford and the scenic drives and walks. We look forward to staying again during the summer months to enjoy the sunroom and gardens.

Great Experience

  • 5 of 5

Six of us rented this beautiful house fora week. We were met by the owners (Gerard and Maureen) with an afternoon tea all prepared and many of the food essentials already supplied. All the facilities were in perfect working condition, particularly the kitchen which was large and had a great gas stove(cooker). The location is ideal for day trips into N.Ireland and Dublin. Carlingford nearby is a vibrant town, especially on weekends with music, both Irish and modern being available in the pubs. Newry in N.I. is very close as well with The Quays Shopping Centre having good grocery and other shopping facilities.

All in all, we had a memorable week; would have loved to spend more time touring the local area. Would definitely return.

What a great base for our vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Warmly welcomed to the cottage, Gerard gave us a primer on the localle and places to visit. We particularly enjoyed the sitting areas. The kitchen was well stocked. Beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were great. The best thing about the cottage was that we quickly felt "at home". The garden, the water across the street and the mountain behind the cottage made the scenery special. We felt that we had experienced Ireland.

Beautiful Home, Beautiful Scenery

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a warm and lovely welcome by the owners, who were extremely helpful with everything. The house was exactly as the pictures shown and is just beautiful and inviting. We had a great time exploring Carlingford and the area around the house, even taking a couple drives to other areas to see the Hill of Tara, Belfast and Trim Castle. My husband enjoyed the water begin so close that he could explore the shore with our youngest daughter. When going to Belfast, Gerard so graciously guided us to easy parking and how to get around the town. The Carlingford Arms was a get dining experience. We are already planning to go back to Ireland and have friends that we plan on telling about our stay in Carlingford, I am sure they will love it as much as we did. Thanks so much Gerard and Maureen.

Cozy, quaint and well situated

  • 4 of 5

Well situated to visit the wonderful sights in both the North and South. The house itself was spacious and the sun room wonderful warm and inviting. I loved the turf to burn, as it gave the warm feeling of being in the country. The house was well maintained and all the amenities. I would recommend the property to anyone wanting to see all sides of Ireland, and would go back myself to the same spot.
