Santiago de la Ribera is commonly referred to as Spain's hidden gem. The Spanish people have tried to keep it a secret from tourists for as long as they could. A quick search on google will show you how beautiful the location is.
It is a very relaxing place for a holiday. Where you can come and recharge yourselves. With that being said it is also a very lively place with fiestas and festivals going on at all times of the year especially Summer. The beach front has fun fairs set up through the Summer months for the families to enjoy. Plenty of bars and restaurants in the village. The whole of the promenade is flat so its ideal for walking or cycling. We can usually provide cycles on request. A lovely walk or cycle to the marina at Lo Pagan, further than the Marina is the mud baths which are very popular and are known for the healing properties linked to them and the Mar Menor. The salt mines are a bit further along the coast of the Mar Menor. If you get to the salt mines well you'll have seen at least one of the newly refurbished windmills.
All the beaches are different along the coast of the Mar Menor all are unique. However what they all have in common is the high salt content which means its easier to float in the sea. Try it for yourself. You always end up floating back to the shore. So very relaxing.
If you want to travel a bit whilst you are here and prefer to hire a car there are so many more beautiful beaches. If you continue around the coast and leave the Mar Menor behind you then come across the Mediterranean. Mil Palmeras is a favourite of mine on the Mediterranean.
Bars and Restaurants
If you fancy a change from the lovely cuisine on offer in Santiago de la Ribera you can walk to Lo Pagan to your left or Los Alcazares to your right. Los Alcazares has a very English tourist area. Jump in a taxi and just tell them Los Alcazares Square. Lots of night life and more bars, cocktail bars and restaurants. Lo Pagan has again more choice of restaurants and bars. You can choose from Spanish, English, Indian, Italian, Chinese and probably more around the area.
Larger shopping centres are a 20/30 minute walk or a short taxi ride away to the other end of the village. Dos Mares and Pinatar Park also with KFC, McDonalds and Burger King amongst others. A full sized Bowling alley is recently opened at Pinatar Park and a smaller one is open in Dos Mares. Both are open afternoons and evenings.
Just wanting to stock up on supplies? We have Lidl and Aldi or if you want to experience a more Spanish supermarket Mercadona all are within 8kms away from the front door. 15 minutes maximum. We have provided a shopping trolley to ease your shopping experience.
Santiago de la Ribera has its market on a Wednesday morning. Excellent choice of all fresh produce, fruit, vegetables, fresh cooked chickens, pork ribs, potatoes and bread. Also and lots of things you never thought you needed until you see them. Clothes, make up, health food supplements and too many to list.
Los Narejos has its Market on a Saturday morning.
Markets are on nearly every day of the week in the area.
The busiest time of the year is June until the end of September for our area with tourists of all nationalities. I'm sure you'll not want to leave once you have experienced a taste of Santiago de la Ribera.
