Situated on a small private lane, the property is hidden behind electric gates which open to reveal a very substantial house of approx. 352 sq meters, with fully landscaped gardens of approx. 1.25 acres in total. The stunning entrance hallway features curved walls and polished limestone flooring, and leads to the spacious reception rooms. The main reception room and open plan kitchen and dining area are at the heart of the house, with uninterrupted garden views from the wall to wall, triple glazed windows. There is a second, very spacious reception room with tv and entertainment center and French doors to raised patio area and the lawn beyond with all bedrooms situated in a separate wing of the property.
Birch Hill House has five double bedrooms, two of which have private bathrooms. All bedrooms are bright, stylish and spacious . French doors lead to the private, landscaped grounds from each bedroom.
There is a further main bathroom, guest wc and utility in the property.

Built just 5 years ago to the highest specification, this beautiful house was designed to take maximum advantage of the stunning site and glorious sea views. Natural materials were utilized throughout, limestone floors, tall bespoke oak doors feature and parquet flooring create a home that is cozy, efficient and aesthetically pleasing from all angles.
Birch Hill House is ideal for large family gatherings, and is also perfect for those frazzled folk who want to kick back and unwind or those seeking adventure in the local area. No detail has been overlooked within the property to ensure your stay will be all you have wished for. The modern, fully equipped kitchen will inspire even the most reluctant of chefs, while the bright dining area, with glorious garden views is sure to please. For those balmy summer evenings, open the wall of glass doors to provide a stunning vista to the outdoor dining area with barbecue and sheltered gazebo, bounded by glorious planting and exquisite landscaping. On chillier evenings, light the log stove fire in the main reception room and sink into the comfortable sofas and relax after a busy day of activities or sightseeing.
The gardens extend to 1.25 acres and are a riot of colorful and imaginative planting. They were designed by the noted garden designer Diarmuid Gavin, who is famed both home and abroad for his innovative and modern approach to garden design. A former Chelsea Flower Show gold medalist, his vision for the gardens of Birch Hill House was to design a cubist, contemporary style landscape which is highlighted by bold areas of color, from both planting and form. The large outdoor dining area is totally sheltered and designed to take advantage of both southerly and westerly aspects while the covered seating area and gazebo offer shelter from the midday sun. Steps lead to a tennis court. This sport court is also suitable for shooting hoops or playing soccer
There is also a fully stocked vegetable garden where you can help yourself to ingredients and herbs which could not be fresher. And why not exercise those green fingers and sow the next seasonal crop!
Entrance Hallway: Open the imposing Irish Oak door to reveal a spacious entrance hallway with polished limestone flooring and curved walls leading to the main reception rooms. There is a piano for those who wish to entertain. Around the curve there is guest wc with stone sink and polished stone floor.
Laundry Room: There is a separate utility room which is equipped with extra large washing machine and tumble dryer, sink, storage and drinks fridge.
Kitchen/Dining Room: Exceptionally bright and spacious, the volcanic stone worktops and polished limestone floor showcase the quality of this magnificent, fully equipped kitchen. All facilities are available, including dishwasher, double oven, both gas and electric hobs, microwave, large fridge/ freezer and Miele coffee machine to provide the perfect espresso or cappuccino, with freshly ground beans sourced from an award winning local roaster. The central island unit ensures a sociable space for entertaining, enjoy your favorite music with the docking station on the BOSE Lifestyle System, while the large dining table can seat 12 and is ideally placed to take full advantage of the garden views.
Living Room: The sunken reception room flows down from the dining area. This space with its wood burning stove, comfortable and cozy couches, makes it the ideal space to relax after a busy day enjoying all the local area has to offer. Enjoy the fantastic garden view, listen to your favorite sounds or enjoy a movie on the flat screen tv and sound system.
Family Room: This wonderful second reception room features parquet wooden flooring, ample seating and doors leading to a raised patio area overlooking the front garden and local hills. There is an entertainment center with wide screen tv, ample dvd and cd and also a games console.
Main Bathroom: The large family bathroom features honed natural limestone tiling and has a spectacular double sink unit. Enjoy a long soak in the large Duravit bath or step into the shower enclosure under the thermostatically controlled pumped shower head and strip away the days wear and tear.
Bedroom 1: This large bedroom with double bed/twin beds, has lots of wardrobe space and French door leading to a raised patio area overlooking the front garden and surrounding countryside. Absorb the last of the evening sun while reading or just enjoying the peace and quiet.
Bedroom 2: Also a spacious double bedroom, pleasantly decorated, there is a large comfortable double bed/twin beds, ample storage and access to your own patio area and the garden.
Bedroom 3 : This light filled grand bedroom has a king sized bed and a landscape picture window facing the sea from which you can watch the day break or observe the moon as it reflects onto the dark sea. Kick back on the private terrace with a good book & your favorite tipple. This bedroom has the added luxury of a log style fire which at the press of a button changes the mood to create a cozy, comfortable room when the sun goes down. You also have the added bonus of being able to appreciate the flames flickering as you sink into the bath in the adjoining en suite bathroom. This large luxurious bathroom with dark limestone and thoughtful lighting creates a relaxing mood and has a walk in shower area, secluded toilet and two sinks. There is a walk in wardrobe with more than ample storage space, tv and telephone points in the room.
Master Bathroom: The modern design of this bathroom belies the traditional, locally sourced materials used to create a space that is functional, yet luxurious. Polished limestone tiles, large double sinks, extra deep bath and feature log fire combine with the discreet lighting and striking color scheme, while the curved wall hides a walk in shower area with power shower.
Bedroom 4: Large bedroom with twin beds or a king size bed depending on your requirements, and if you have small guests with you ,there is a bunk bed which can be added. The fitted wardrobes provide lots of storage space and through the French doors it boasts both fantastic views and direct access to the gardens.
Bedroom 5: This tastefully decorated double bedroom with neutral tones, creates an ambiance of peace and tranquility. Enjoy a restful nights sleep in the large brass bed. there is ample wardrobe space and garden access with a stunning view of the begonia bed which is a joy in the summer.
Ashford Village: Birch Hill House is situated a short stroll to the picturesque village of Ashford. Located approx 30 miles south of Dublin city and airport, it is ideally located for visitors to this wonderful part of Ireland. County Wicklow is known as 'The Garden County ' and there are many private gardens and stately homes which open to the public close by. Just a short stroll minutes from the house however, is Mount Usher gardens, which was voted the “Best garden to visit in Ireland” by BBC Gardeners World The shopping courtyard features a wonderful restaurant and there are myriad specialty shops with the best of Irish food, furniture and crafts on offer. Also in the village you can enjoy a drink of Guinness in front of a log fire, while working up a hunger to enjoy a tasty meal in one of the two fine restaurants.
We stayed at this beautiful house at the end of May, when we visited Wicklow for my mammy's birthday. Pete was welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, a nice and genuine person. On our arrival Una & Pete had left us freshly baked bread, milk, butter, chocolate cakes, teabags & 2 lovely bottles of wine to get us started... absolutely delicious. The house was magnificent: spacious, ultra modern, light and spotlessly clean. Unbelievably Easy access by car to lots of interesting places including our new favourite place, Powerscourt. The village of Ashford itself is lovely as are the people. The house is within easy walking distance of the village, where you can find everything you'll need. We plan to return soon.

We have just returned from a week's stay at Birch Hill House and in spite of the lovely Irish weather (it only rained once - from Friday until Tuesday!) we had a wonderful time. The house was so big that everyone had plenty of space to chill out (I don't think the photos convey quite how enormous it really is). More importantly, it was in superb condition and despite its size, was quite easy to keep clean. Similarly, the superb insulation qualities and log-burning stove meant that we were cosy throughout our stay. Highlights were the second reception room, with its large screen TV and pool table - an absolute godsend in keeping the kids occupied - and the Miele coffee machine, which got plenty of use during our long lazy mornings. Pete, our host, was very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, on a quiet little laneway, near a quiet little village, and yet only a few minutes' drive from the motorway. Lots to do nearby, including drives through beautiful scenery in the rain! We would happily return.
The house was a fantastic place to stay for a week with 11 people. The house is so spacious that it didn't feel like 11 people were staying there. The house its self had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable, very clean with all the facilities we needed. The tennis court was great for the children, which they spent a lot of time in as the weather was fantastic only one day of rain. The beach was beautiful only 5 mins in the car called Brittas Bay going towards Wexford off the N11 Junction 19 worth a visit, the children had a great time rolling down the sand dunes.
I would highly recommend this house to any large parties. The owners were very welcoming and nothing to much trouble.
What a lovely house, one with many interesting features and an ideal place for an extended family stay. The tennis courts were a useful facility and we thought the village a good mix of utility and proximity. The kitchen was a well appointed feature and the very tall doors and oak features made the experience a memorable one.
Not too far from Dublin, but far enough into the Irish countryside to enjoy the pleasant scenery.
We thought the blurb was an accurate review of the facility and the house itself was reminiscent of a show house. It was nice to meet the owner and to have the benefit of his knowledge of the many facilities. This is certainly a place to pass on to friends and family!
The house is very nice and fully matches the description. We felt very much at home and found our hosts very friendly and helpful.
The house was in nearly perfect shape and the cleaning lady did a perfect job.
We would recommend the house to anyone looking for a really big property in very good condition in the countryside not too far from Dublin (45 min).
Though the house is in a very quiet neighbourhood the can be found anything you need within a 20 minute drive:
- Pub (2 min)
- small supermarket (2 min)
- lager supermarket (15 min)
- various restaurants within 10-20 min
- the nice usher garden to visit
- the wicklow mountains and other haritage / tourist sites within 20 min
We had a great time in this very comfortable house. It corresponds perfectly to the description and the pictures and we were lucky enough to have much sunshine so we could also enjoy the outside equipment. We visited Glendalogh which is very close and worth a complete day out. But we also visited Dublin because it is very easy with the M11 nearby. Una and Pete gave us instructions to reach their place and left us advice on where to eat in the neighbourhood.
Even if it was a bit more expensive than what we had planned to spend for the week, we don't regret our choice and recommend the place.

Golfers, you have some of the best courses Ireland has to offer on your doorstep, Druids Glen and Wood brook who have hosted The Irish Open, Wicklow, Blainroe, The European, and Wooden bridge giving you the finest of woodland to links courses and at great value.
Just 30 miles from Dublin city center it is the ideal base for a city trip.
