In the vicinity of Nanette's Apartments you will find the best of both worlds. Besides beautiful beaches and dunes at a stone's throw away, the lively village of Bergen is also just around the corner. So during a relaxing holiday at Nanette's there’s no need to get bored.
Walking down our street, you’re already in the center of Bergen. Its unique location between forest and dune has always provided Bergen a famous appeal. Not only vacationers found their peace here; artists too have traditionally been fascinated by this intimate dune village. In the late nineteenth century Bergen became the center of the Dutch art movement. The famous Bergen art school was born here, with well-known representatives as Charley Toorop and John Rädecker. When you turn left at the end of our street, you can admire their work yourself at the in Kranenburgh Museum. And in the Meerwijk-neighborhood, you can still find their homes, built in the distinctive architecture of the Amsterdam school.
Today still, Bergen attracts many art lovers and practitioners. On Thursday nights in the summer, they sell their work on the artistic market around the Ruïne church. And in October, all Bergen residents open their doors to show their art during the famous Kunsttiendaagse (Ten Days of Art).
Above all, Bergen is famous for its beautiful surroundings. Only a short walk from home will take you to the beach of Bergen aan Zee. The bordering nature areas are a delight for lovers of hiking and biking. We have the cycling and hiking maps ready for you. In these dunes and moorland, which stretch from Egmont to Camperduin, you can also get lost to your heart’s content. Real adventurers can enjoy themselves in Bergen, with mountain biking in the dunes or kite surfing at the beach.
Lovers of nature will enjoy the beautiful sight of the nearby bulb fields in spring. The numerous hyacinths, tulips and crocuses that bloom there can be admired with an easy car ride. And for your leisure, you can also play golf on the 18 hole golf course near Bergen.
Bergen is a vibrant town. In summer, café terraces are packed with lovers of the good life. Gourmets will love the highly regarded restaurants of the village, with food from all regions and suitable for all budgets: in the culinary field, you will never get bored in Bergen. The many shops in the village have more to offer than the standard tourist shops. Undoubtedly you will find a beautiful souvenir there.
During summer months, there’s something going on in the village almost every day. Like ‘Lichtjesavond’ (Night of the Light) in July, when residents of Bergen decorate their garden with candles and the village gets an enchanted glow. Or during Jazz&Sail in September, a three day festival with a sea regatta at daytime and a jazz festival in the town at night.
Bored of Bergen? No problem, because a daytrip is easy to make. Eight kilometers away is the medieval town of Alkmaar, well-known for its weekly cheese market on Fridays during summer months. When visiting Enkhuizen one can experience the life in a historic Dutch fishermen’s town. . At the Zuiderzeemuseum there, a historical fisherman’s village, consisting of antique buildings such as a smoke-house, dwellings and shops, can be visited.
Amsterdam is easy to reach. From Alkmaar, every fifteen minutes a train departs which takes you in only forty minutes to Amsterdam Central Station.
