Heavenly escape in Provence

  • 5 of 5

The only negative about this perfect home is the difficulty in understanding the directions to find it!

The house is situated at the top of the little village of St. Victor des Oules... beautiful views. We so enjoyed relaxing on the patio amid the olive trees and beautiful landscaping. The house itself was clean and charming. Every room was lovely. The kitchen is fully stocked. The beds were comfy and bathrooms immaculate. We will be back!!!

Nearby is Uzes - a beautiful town w/great shops and restaurants. Don't miss St. Victor de Poterie... many, many pottery studios of all tastes. And then, there's the Pont du Gard -- a don't miss sight!

Superb

  • 5 of 5

We are 2 retired couples who spent 3 glorious weeks in Maison dans le Ciel in June.

The villa was delightful in all aspects - position, cleanliness, decor, facilities. Maison dans Le Ciel is in a wonderful location, perfectly positioned to access the abundant attractions of Provence and Languedoc-Roussillon.

The hamlet of St Victor des Oules has no amenities, but nearby towns have supermarkets, banks, restaurants. We drove thousands of kilometres in all directions during our stay - Montpellier, Aix-en-Provence, the Camargue, Arles, Nimes, Orange, St Quentin la Poterie. The Saturday market at Uzes was huge and colourful, and well worth a visit. The newly opened prehistoric art cave Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc in the Ardeche is a must. The scenery is sublime and the reproduction of the cave stunning. The Carrieres de Lumiere in Les Baux was a great experience - but take a jacket, as it gets very cool in the quarry.

The weather in June was very warm and the air conditioning was very welcome to cool the bedrooms before sleeping.

A perfect villa, in a perfect location, made for a perfect holiday.

Even Better the Second Time

  • 5 of 5

Maison dans le Ciel was even more enjoyable this year, if possible. Steve and Caroline continue to make improvements to this already comfortable and well-equipped house. The lovely patio and garden plus the upstairs deck both provide perfect places to sit and enjoy the local wine and cheese, take in the scenic countryside or just relax. Not every day needs to be one of sightseeing when you have such a comfortable place to stay, but you will never run out of places to visit in the Languedoc or Provence. We bicycled several times with road bikes from Village Velo - alas, they are selling their business and it will be moving to Uzes. We like to cook our dinners most nights and found that St. Quentin (just a few miles away) had pretty much everything you need (Express Carrefour, Friday market and local shops); all the necessary appliances, utensils and pans are provided in the house. We would definitely recommend this house to anyone who is looking for comfort both indoors and outdoors in a small, quiet hilltop village, not far from amenities and must-see destinations in the southern Rhone.

The best rental property ee have ever stayed in

  • 5 of 5

From the exciting first impressions right through to the moment of our departure, this house exceeded expectations. It is very well equiped, to the point where we couldn't think of anything that it lacked. It is comfortable in a way that many rental properties aren't. Lots of comfortable seating inside and out, comfortable beds and beautiful linens. The house has a beautiful garden with a varied voice of areas to sit out. we also liked the fact that household goods and some foodstuffs were left for use with a request only that you replace something if you use it. A nice, friendly touch of trust. Perfect? Faultless? Yes, we certainly think so. Thanks Steve and Caroline for the undoubted care and attention you put into your lovely house.

St. Vincent des Oules

loved the place, the town and the location.

The A/C is not what Americans would call A/C . Just air that was somewhat cooler than the outside air.

There was a huge spider web in the fireplace bedroom- in the fireplace

Owner's Response: Hi We are delighted that you enjoyed our house and the surrounding area. We will update our Air Con instructions to clarify the Cooling. If the remote control is set to cool and the temp setting reduced to say 18C then that is the temp maintained inside the room irrespective of the external temp. Apologies if the instructions were not clear. With respect to the spiders web .The house was prepared 24hrs before your arrival and one of our rare visiting spiders must have produced the web just before you arrived We are delighted that overall you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kind Regards Steve

St. Victor-des-Oules by Uzes is, historically, known for its underground fire clay. Fired in the village kilns, it made special pots for the region, notably, for the kitchens at the Pope's palace at nearby Avignon. Other points of interest to visit are the Chateau, the old wash houses and the pretty church. At 240metres high, the hilltop village boasts panoramic views over the Uzege with its vineyards and wonderful sunsets over the Cevennes mountains in the distance. The local Mas des Oules, hosts many Art Exhibitions. Medieval Uzes is 10km away. This has the closest Golf course. Nearby, too, are the Gorges of Gardon, the spectacular Pont du Gard, great for canoeing, and L'Etangs de la Capelle with its varied flora and fauna. At thirty minutes drive from the house to the main motorway, Nimes with the closest airport, Garons, is easy to reach taking a total of 45mins .Two further Golf Courses are here at Nimes. Other Local attractions include artistic Arles, and Montpellier with its larger airport connections. St Quentin La Poterie, very close by, is the home of many pottery studios and artists. Other hilltop villages nearby include St. Siffret and St. Maximan wonderful for those who like to explore pretty, historical places on foot, with winding, narrow roads.
