The neoclassical residence resting within 35000m2 of meticulously designed Mediterranean gardens in Agia Marina was initially built in 1893. Declared a cultural monument by the Greek Ministry, it has been fully renovated to serve the highest of nowadays standards while at the same time preserving the essence of another era. Same nostalgic theme permeates the interior which consists of a study, two bedrooms, one bathroom and a master bedroom with en suite bathroom on the first floor, as well as two additional bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor. Also on the ground floor is the living room adorned with a central fireplace and two dining spaces, one of which overlooking the 120m2 swimming pool, all supported by a fully equipped kitchen.
The garden has been designed in such a way as to provide a beautiful relaxing atmosphere for a carefree vacation.
The blue color of the sky reflecting on the swimming pool comes in contrast with the evergreen of the large open lawn areas surrounding the villa. This serene painting also includes a small chapel dedicated to St. Fanourios, surrounded by century old olive trees, willow trees and blooming roses. In fact there are several sitting spots around the house fully equipped with outdoor furniture, including a gazebo where one can let go of worries and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.
While exploring the gardens, populated by indigenous plants and flowers setting up a colourful pallet, guests are also welcome to taste over twenty different fruits and vegetables such as strawberries, peaches and apricots depending on the season, all produced within the estate. Close to the house, mostly masked from common sight by jasmine and wisteria bushes, is the basketball/tennis court, in case someone prefers to mix relaxation with some sports activity. Finally, for those renting a car, two parking spots are available in the underground garage.
I loved this place since I was a child because of the beautiful scenery the sea and the beach offers, the calming and peaceful environment and the variety of fruits in the garden. I also like the atmosphere of the traditional house and the ability to visit so many interesting places all around without wasting time.
The place has an unbelievably beautiful architecture, a refreshing big swimming pool, tennis and basket courts and the small church that someone can enjoy a deep meditation. The house offers a stunning view of the surrounding area from the terrace and various spots in the garden. There is also a small patch of forest trees where someone can enjoy the cool breeze during the hot days in the summer.
When I saw Mairy’s Villa in Greece advertised on Home and Away’s website, both my wife and I proceeded with caution as it just looked too good to be true.
I need not have worried. We were simply very lucky that the Villa was available (after a bit of shuffling) for the dates that we all could make.
Mairy was extremely helpful (and very patient) whilst tying everything down. She even drove down from Athens to prepare the Villa and gave us the most delicious lunch on our arrival , which was a wonderful way to start our holiday, to hear about the estate, it’s history and about the area.
The Villa is beautiful and delightfully laid out and comfortable. There is ample room for everyone. There are 5 bedrooms and we were one family group (inc friends) of 10 people. It would equally suit 2 smaller families.
We wanted for nothing during our stay and the Housekeeper and Gardener, Katia and Vasillis (who live off site but within the grounds) were always at hand if we needed anything. Katia discreetly came in and spruced the beds etc every day and silently cleared up behind the scenes. Vasillis takes care of the immaculate gardens and orchards, from which we were provided amazing fresh fruits every day. He also provided us with wood for the BBQ and took care of the pool.
The Pool area is luxurious, with several different sitting areas, tables, loungers etc. We did spend much of our time here, as the actual pool is one of the highlights of the house. Crystal clear, just the right temperature, very big by any standards and with lovely views.
We did hire a car, in order to do the food shopping and for the odd excursion. We would thoroughly recommend a trip to Ancient Olympia, which everyone loved.
The beach is only a 5-6 minute walk however and the bars and restaurant there were great and food excellent and very reasonable. We had planned to eat in every night but couldn’t resist several nights down at Agia Marina Beach, which was perfect.
There are plenty of other beaches, bars and restaurants within a short drive.
I think it is worth mentioning that there are 3 dogs that live on the estate and roam about.
We absolutely loved them and they were very part of our holiday, especially for the children.
However, we didn’t know about them until well after we had confirmed and I only mention it, as some families might not be as dog crazy as we are!
Mairy’s Villa is a jewel in the Peloponese Crown and we will certainly be going back again.
This property is everything and MUCH MORE than the pictures show. To start with the garden is full of fruit trees and you can walk around in the morning and pick up fruit for your breakfast - oranges, figs, plums, peaches, apples, pears, grapes.... The house is big and could easily accomodate our family of 8. The pool is the cleanest and one of the nicest pools I have seen! The on property caretakers look after the property and the house and Katia was like an angel looking after our every need (I wanted to bring her home with me). The tennis/basketball court was in good use even though it was so hot. The owner Mairy is very welcoming and if we had any concern she took care of it immediately. She checked on us daily to make sure everything was as we wanted. This property is like staying in a luxury hotel of your own!! I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a relaxing holiday or get together with friends of family - perfect paradise !!! Thank you Mairy, Katia and Vasili!!! Hope to be back one day !!
We had a marvelous stay in this amazing house. Mairy was a very thoughtful and gracious host. The house was well equipped and our family had a wonderful vacation.
The pool is amazing and picking fruits from the large orchard was great. The beach is ten minutes away and Olympia is very close. We had a large group and were all comfortable. Our children spent their time in the pool and the large garden and had the time of their life. The AC In August was a welcome addition. But what really made a difference was the house manager Katia and her husband Vasili who worked really hard on a daily base to keep the house impeccable. We felt so welcomed and lucky to be there.
