The Sheiling is a beautiful, detached country cottage, set in its own enclosed garden, in the unspoilt Cotswolds conservation village of Upper Oddington. Many walks through the stunning Cotswold countryside are available on the doorstep and the cottage is only 2 miles from the beautiful market town of Stow-on-the-Wold. The Horse & Groom, a quintessential English Cotswold stone inn, is located 100 yards from the cottage and Daylesford Organic, with its award winning food, cookery school and spa, is also located close by.
The cottage is built from traditional Cotswold stone and has been beautifully decorated and furnished, with many character features, including wooden beams, a real fire in the living room and an inglenook fireplace in the kitchen, containing a Rayburn cooker. Complementing these character features, the cottage has modern facilities, including wireless internet access and Freeview TV.
The Sheiling sleeps six people, in four bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor. There is also a fold-up bed available, suitable for children up to age 11. There are two bathrooms. The cottage is an ideal retreat for a family holiday or for groups of friends seeking a beautiful country retreat.
Booking and payment
Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the cottages listed on our website. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.
For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.
All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.
A security deposit of £200 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit. The security deposit is payable prior to arrival at the property, via a bank transfer or a valid debit or credit card.
The maximum occupancy of the property is 6+1 guests, at any point during your stay (with the +1 option being a small fold -up, suitable for children up to age 11). Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than seven guests at the property.
Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by one additional infant.
Regrettably, The Sheiling does not accept pets.

No smoking is permitted throughout The Sheiling.

Upper Oddington and Lower Oddington are traditional Cotswold villages, which together form the civil parish of Oddington. Both villages are very peaceful, being located on a quiet country road, away from the busier main roads of the Cotswolds.
Oddington is known for the fine Church of St Nicholas. It was originally a cell of St Peter's Benedictine abbey in Gloucester, which was ceded in 1157 to the See of York and exchanged with the Crown in 1547. The Norman south aisle probably represents the original nave. The church was all but abandoned among its fields in 1852 and has been little altered since. It contains wall paintings of the Doom on the north wall of the nave, dating to the early 15th century, which were whitewashed over in Puritan times, before being restored by a local resident in the 20th century. Scenes depicted include the Acts of Mercy, the Seven Deadly Sins and Pride. Oddington is fortunate to be home to two excellent country pubs: the Horse and Groom in Upper Oddington and The Fox Inn in Lower Oddington (see Food & Drink section for further information).
Car: The Sheiling is easily accessed by car, being located a few hundred yards from the A436, which connects the A429 (Fosse Way) and the A44, two of the main roads running through the North Cotswolds.
Train: The nearest railway station to The Sheiling is Kingham (approximately four miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of less than 90 minutes.
