Glenbeigh Holiday House - Sleeps 10

Bedrooms 6
Space 2,690 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Substantial Home of 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, and plenty of living space

Hurricane Lodge is an exceptional Family Holiday Home close to Rossbeigh Beach, a Blue Flag Beach, famous for its rolling waves and large expanse. The house is set within its own grounds, and is very quiet and secluded. It comprises of 6 bedrooms. 1 double en-suite; 1 King en-suite; 1 queen; 1 single en-suite; 1 twin and 1 large 4ft single. There are 2 further bathrooms. The kitchen is large with both electric and oil cooking; fully equipped with a separate outdoor utility room. There are 2 living rooms, both with TV. Our dining room has a large fire place and snug bar. There is a large sunny conservatory overlooking the sea. There is wifi broadband for guests’ use. There is ample car parking around the house. There are numerous golf courses within an hours drive, including Dooks which is one of Ireland's oldest courses with spectacular views. Glenbeigh is a pretty village with a supermarket with petrol station; Post Office; 2 long established hotels which serve food and a pub.

There are many places you can visit, and you can see some photos in the art gallery. The following are trips/excursions which I would recommend:

1. Driving the Ring of Kerry, which passes right around the Iveragh Peninsula. Kenmare is a lovely town and an ideal place to have lunch.

2.Driving around the Dingle Peninsula, stopping off in Dingle town to enjoy a good lunch with local fish delicacies. You could also include a boat trip to the Blasket Islands.

3. Visit Killarney National Park, where you can take a jaunting car (horse drawn trap) trip; hire bicycles; take a picnic; explore the various walks within the Park

4. Take a boat trip to visit Skellig Michael - if you climb to the top you will see the 6th Century monastery, and the island is a nesting place for puffins.

5. Walking - the Kerry Way is a waymarked walking way running for 215 km round the Iveragh Peninsular. The scenery is stunning; the walking is not too difficult. Directly behind our house, you can climb the mountain, access is through our field, when you get to the summit you will see an amazing Atlantic view, and if you walk along the bridge towards the sea, you can climb down and walk towards Rossbeigh Strand. There are countless other local walks, and one of my favorite is walking around Rossbeigh Strand which takes about 2 hours. Print outs of various walks are available in the owners information booklet.

6.Golf - Dooks is approximately 6km from the house - 18 holes with spectacular views overlooking Dingle.

Killarney, at 35km has two 18 hole championship courses, Kileen and Mahoney's Point.

Tralee Golf Course approx 45kms away is a sensational links course with beautiful scenery and sea that sparkles like champagne - if you can take a swim!

Waterville, which is along the Ring of Kerry, is another fine links course, and has been the practice course prior to the British Open for some famous players including Woods.

Ballybunnion, at 75km, has two championship links courses (the Old and the New courses).

7. Fishing - local skippers will take you out be it for a few hours; half a day or day long excursions.

Rossbeigh Beach is a good place for shore line fishing, and is especially famous for bas fishing.

For freshwater fishing there are many lakes and rivers for salmon and brown trout. The salmon season runs from 9th February to 30th September and trout from 15th March to 12th October. Caragh Lake is approximately 10km away and local gillies are available. Salmon are caught here, as they are on the Upper Caragh River. The river has 9 beats.

Hurricane Lodge is not your normal rental home, as it is our family holiday home, and as such it is well stocked with glasses, crockery, cutlery etc. It's got the advantage in that upstairs there is a den area which is ideal for children to have their 'own space'!

Great space and perfect location

Enjoyed stay. Perfect for two families, three generations. Loved the conservatory and upstairs den. House location between Rossbeigh and Glenbeigh ideal. Beach and mountains in your doorstep.

Nice big home.

  • 4 of 5

The kitchen is very well kitted out with pots, pans, delf & cutlery etc.

The microwave is a little under powered.

Many pots & pans are induction hob friendly. We brought a portable induction hob so that was useful.

Kitchen units are nice.

Good extractor.

En suites & bath/shower rooms are nicely updated. You must heat water for the showers to work.

The conservatory is lovely with plenty of light & a great view.

The upstairs bedrooms are nice & bright.

The upstairs common area is nice and is brighter, warmer & more comfortable than the downstairs sitting room.

The downstairs bedrooms need upgrading and brightening up. The floors creak, at least one door doesn’t close properly, the carpets and skirting boards could be replaced & the wallpaper is peeling.

The dining room is good but could be modernised-new carpet, etc.

Spacious and comfortable. Great for family gatherings. Beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time exploring all of County Kerry while staying here. It is on a small road off the Ring of Kerry and close to everything. The town of Glenbeigh has everything you need but is small and friendly. We called the pub at the Hotel Glenbeigh our "local." The house has everything you want and more, from updated TV's and internet to a washer and dryer and other modern conveniences. We spent our down time in the conservatory (sun room to us Americans) and in the very large dining room.

Jenny was easy to contact and very informative. All in all I would definitely recommend her house as your base for exploring the west of Ireland.

Haus mit herrlicher Aussicht

  • 5 of 5

I hope the above makes sense - I used Google Translate :)

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home suited all our needs. I would definitely recommend it. Jenny couldn't have been more helpful, and made or stay very enjoyable. Its nicely off the road leading down to Rossbeigh Beach, so we have lovely seclusion with great views of the beach and the Dingle Pennisula. The accommodation was excellent, with plenty of space, comfortable beds and good bathrooms and showers. We will definitely return.

Great for our family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We just finished a wonderful week at Hurricane Lodge. The photos on the wall show that this house has brought joy to Jenny's family for many years. We are grateful to have had the chance to share in the fun.

We were a group of 10--6 adults and 4 children. The 6 different bedrooms with a variety of bed configurations worked out great for us, also 5 bathrooms and instant hot water for the shower meant that we could all get ready in the morning at the same time. The kids claimed the living room upstairs and had a great time playing in their own space. The bar room is like a 1940s or 50s "man cave", really fun vibe and great for playing cards or games in the evening. Not pictured in the photos is a lovely sunroom at the south end of the house that is a fabulous space for morning coffee or tea or evening appetizers. The hill behind the house housed a flock of sheep who's baa-ing greeted us whenever we were outside. My son LOVED them.

It was great to have a large kitchen and a clothes washer (and drying rack). There is also Wifi available. Our only problem all week was that the WiFi was a bit slow, which, is probably a fair trade off for being way out in such lovely countryside. For pure vacationing it would probably be no bother at all, but my husband had a little bit of work that he brought with him. It got done, just not at the blazing speed we're accustomed to.

We spent some of our time walking on the Kerry trail, at Rossbeigh beach (especially on the playground there). and in the town of Glenbeigh. But we also used the house as a base for exploring Kerry, Dingle and even down to Cork for a day.

Jenny was an excellent communicator. Her email responses were always very prompt. We spoke on the phone once before the trip and met in Dublin to pick up keys. She was very willing to work out a plan that best suited our needs. She emailed great information about the house in advance, including perfect directions for finding the house. Also, there were recommendations for restaurants in several nearby towns which never disappointed!

Thanks again Jenny!
