About Susan Kibler

I 'discovered' the amazing country of Slovenia in 2001. Since then, my husband, son and family and friends have enjoyed every moment of our Slovenian vacations. There is so much to do that even after more than 10 years, we still have a list of things we wish to do.

Why Susan Kibler chose Upper Carniola

We know immediately we wanted to find a property in this amazing country. Bled has always been our favorite location, yet we wanted to have access by good roads to explore the rest of the country. We had a demanding list. We wanted to be very close to Bled, but have privacy and charm. We wanted great views. The mountains in Slovenia have always enchanted us. We wanted a property with a lot of character, that had all the most modern conveniences so that we could live there comfortably.

We instantly fell in love with this home and location. The house itself is over 100 years old. The original owner lived there his entire life. He was a big collector. We have incorporated many or the antiques and items which were left in the house into our interior design. We wanted the house to feel historic, but with a modern edge.

When we purchased it we had to install all systems: water, heating, gas, etc. We used all the most modern equipment. We tried to think of the little things like providing additional space below the sinks for convenience. We worked with a great interior designer and construction firm to completely remake the home.

What makes this cottage unique

We hope you enjoy the views from our deck, the grill and old fashioned sitting area under the grape vines and the other special spaces this historic cottage offers as much as we do!

Great location and house

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay at Bela Luna. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed for a great stay. Our children felt like they were staying in an ancient farm house with the out buildings and hidden compartments. It was a very convenient 5 minute drive to Lake Bled and about 20-25 to Lake Bohinj The Whole area was stunningly beautiful. Besides the restaurants at Bled (and other towns) there were two places right down the street which were very nice to have so close to the house. Both bathrooms are on the ground floor.

Beautiful Cottage in the near of Bled

  • 5 of 5

We had a really nice time in Slovenia, the nature is amazing and the cottage is such a nice place to be. This house is really well equipped and clean. It is furnished with love - you can see that. And we liked it a lot, that it is not in the center of Bled, where are more turists. Here you have the nature and mountains in the field of view. Nice!

We would like to come back for another holiday.

Perfect Time Out

  • 5 of 5

Susan, thank you on all accounts, the house was perfect and so homely we thoroughly enjoyed it. We did a few tourist days round bled, the castle, church, the gorge, Piran, Ljubljana etc with such a warm feeling. It's so clean and fresh the mountain air was just so precious, the waters so clear and I live in Scotland mmmm not as fresh here. The boys managed a golf tournament one day which was fun. So the girls went to the hotel spa afternoon. We were told off for not being naked but had gone through the door which hadn't got the notice so didn't see it ha ha ha.

I loved the simple living out there and the sweet old man opposite across the road tending his garden allotment space we gave a wave and hello when ever we saw him.

You are very blessed to have such a place. Thank you for sharing it out with others.

Home away from home !!

  • 5 of 5

Dear Susan,

Just returned from a fantastic holiday !!

Since 1997 when our girl(s) were still young, we always made an effort in our travels to find and book a cottage which, for a few days, is our home away from home. Fortunately, every cottage we booked had its unique, most enjoyable features.

However, Bella Luna is one of our best ever so far !! It is going to be even more difficult next year to exceed our positive experience, after Bella Luna. The location, small village convenience shop, distant mountains, open space, calmness, internal comfort, spacious interior and external cottage facilities (wooden deck and the lawn garden - great for a daily 'football' session with the girls), fire place (including outdoor stock of kindlers and logs !!) were superb. It turned out to be a far, superior better offer than what we expected from the promotional photos on the website !!

We made every effort to leave the cottage in the excellent condition we found it in!!

We also enjoyed amongst others rowing on Lake Bled, Vogel cable car, Vintgar Gorge, Lubljana Zoo and a couple of places over the Austrian border.

Everything was perfectly organised - pity we could not find a good excuse to call and meet your local management people !!

Once again, thank you for your pre-travel communication, support and for having organised the cottage.

Warm regards

Connie, Pierre, Ilona and Mariah Dalmas

Very nice place to relax

  • 5 of 5

We found the house very well maintained, everything was clean and in good shape. The kitchen was well equipped. There is a very effective brick BBQ in the backyard. It is nice, quite location, however in the morning and evening, there are some cars passing, as well as the occasional train.

For dinner we went most of the time to the Gostilna Batist, which is a few minutes walk down the road, really good local food, very welcoming. Menu is in English, German and Italian, which are also spoken by the owners. We went as well to Bled for dinner twice, however being in the high season, Bled was crowded, as were the restaurants. Considering you need to drive there (can't drink), pay for parking, pay higher prices for the food and have a less personal service, we decided to stay with the Gostilna Batist. If you need to buy food, there is a small store in Bohinjska Bela. There are larger ones in Lesce/Radovlijka and Boh. Bistrica.

As Bled was really crowded by people and cars, we decided to make most excursions in the Bohinj Valley. We planned to do a lot of hiking, but as the weather was much better and warmer than expected, we spent many days at the Lake Bohinj, where you can swim, rent boats...

Another trip worth making is a visit to the Pokljuka Gorge, which is a bit hard to find, but with few people around. We didn't make the Vintgar Gorge due to the crowd there.

A nice day trip by car was taking the cartrain from Boh. Bistrica to Most na Soci, then drive to Kobarid, where is nice historical path. It starts at the museum and passes some trenches of the first WW, as well as a beautiful waterfall and bridges above the Soca. Then drive further along the Soca valley to the Soca spring, thereafter via the Vrsic Pass to Kranjska Gora, the back to Boh. Bela.

A must is a daytrip to either the Postojna or Skocjan caves (about 1,5 h by car) which can be combined easily with a visit to Lipica.

We spent some very relaxing days in the house and enjoyed the beautiful surrounding as well as the nice and friendly people in Slovenia.

Vacation of a lifetime!

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin? Our stay at Bohinjska Bela was spectacular. Bela Luna was more lovely than we expected. It was a home away from home...every need was met. When we were not investigating and enjoying the spectacular views and countryside, we enjoyed the patio, good food, and conversation. The yard allowed for fun filled games! We experienced beautiful weather, spectacular scenery, met many, many, gracious people, enjoyed lovely foods, spent wonderful time with family, hiked miles, and returned to collect our memories and insights. We walked around Lake Bled, hiked mountains in our back yard, enjoyed night life in Bled and Ljubljana, rode the gondola at Vogel Ski Centre, walked to , hiked mountains in our back yard, enjoyed night life in Bled and Ljubljana, rode the gondola at Vogel Ski Centre, walked to Vintgar Gorge, the Savica Waterfall in Bohinj, and simply loved Radovljica. The food is wonderful...and the people most gracious...a truly wonderful experience. I hope this is only the first of many trips to Slovenia - and hope to make this property the center of focus.
