Kristín purchased this cottage in 2013
Cottages Engjagil 4 and 5 in Helludalur Geysir area are built in the year 2007-8, made of logs from Finland, the houses are situated in the peaceful valley Helludalur yet it is in the midst of the Golden Circle, what we love about this place is that we find peace and tranquillity during our stays there and it has been a huge pleasure to share this special place with our guests, we are thankful and blessed to do so.
The cottage has enough space for up to 6 persons, the beds are very comfortable and on the loft there is a roof window right above your head so you can see the stars at night. Icelandic ponies are often in the field a few steps from the cottage. Because we have 2 cottages in the same area we can have up to 12 persons at the same time.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin although spacious feels very warm and welcoming. Our 19 month old son loved having room to run around and huge windows to watch the Icelandic ponies from.
Very comfortable bed. Great location to explore the golden circle. A must is The Secret Lagoon (cheaper, quieter and closer than the Blue Lagoon). Gullfoss and the Geysir are especially close.
We only used the hot tub once. It wasn't particularly warm, but I guess that's the nature of the thermals! We still enjoyed our soak and looking up at the starry night .
The kitchen area though small is well equipped. We managed fine, a large group however, may struggle.
My only negative would be cleanliness. The kitchen, bathroom and general bedroom/ living area were very clean. It's smaller things like under sofa cushions were dirty with food crumbs (discovered when retrieving lost toys) . The windows (internally) smeared and their ledges at floor level were also dusty. To be fair, probably not something most would notice or care about, but having a toddler I did. Perhaps this is more the fault of previous guests not cleaning up after themselves than Kristín's !
We didn't see the Northern Lights but this would be the perfect cabin to view them from.
Perfect for a family with adult children. Enough space in teh big living room, hotpot is fantastic and everything is clean. Near to the main attraction it is very quiet - a contrast to the busy Strockur!
Would recommand aalso for a longer stay!
We felt at home the moment we walked in. Very clean and fully stocked with everything we needed. The views are spectacular and the hot tub is the perfect way to end a day of exploring. Kristin is awesome to work with. For folks that have traveled a little it this will certainly be on the top of your list of places you've ever been. Seldom do we entertain the idea of returning to a vacation location- too much else to see- but we can definitely see ourselves back in Iceland and at this house. Thank you very much.
My husband and I stayed at this cabin during our honeymoon to Iceland - it was fabulous! The location was wonderful - it was within walking distance to Geysir and the visitors center, which offered a great gluten free lamb soup and lattes! The bed in the cabin was super comfortable, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed, and the view was outstanding. With all that being said, the hot tub was by far our favorite feature! We would come back at night from a long day of exploring, and sit in the hot tub with a drink to watch the sun go down.
Kristin was a wonderful host. She went out of her way to answer any questions that we had, and offered many suggestions on places to go or things to do.
We hope to come back to Iceland some day, and if we do, we will certainly seek out Kristin's homey cabins once again!
Do not hesitate to stay in Kristin's cottage! It is located in a great spot, with snow covered mountains all around. Iceland is so wide open, it is a shame to see the sites with busloads of people. With a car and this as your base, you can bypass the crowds and explore on your own, especially if you go on off hours. The cottage is clean and in good shape and Kristen made it all easy. Lindin in Laugarvatn is a nice lakeside bistro, next to the great pool. and Skol is pub a mile past Geysir toward Gullfoss .Highly recommended!
The home is the epitome of everything wonderful in Iceland. We loved the vistas all around us and looked forward to the hot tub every day. The rooms were welcoming and the kitchen well stocked with all the right equipment. We would return every season if we could.
Only a few local TV stations,3 g internet is available - not for downloading though.
