Self catering Can Batlles for 5 people

We booked this property as it was relatively low cost and gave us access to Barcelona (45-min drive) from a quieter, cheaper, rural location. We knew it was fairly cheap so weren't expecting amazing luxury. The property was well-presented and clean and tidy, although not particularly well-equipped kitchen .

Checking-in was a bit difficult. We arrived at our specified time but there didn't seem to be anyone around who was expecting us and I had to hunt around the farm itself to try and locate anyone. Eventually I found the owner's mother who was helpful, despite us not being able to speak the same language.

The main thing we didn't like (and this will seem like a stupid comment because we knew it was situated on a farm) was the horrendous smell around the outside areas.

I grew up on a farm and love the smell of country / farmyard air, but there was a particularly strong stench - I think perhaps chicken / poultry that made it difficult to stay outside. Sitting on the balcony to eat breakfast / have a drink in the evening became impossible as the smell made us feel sick.

Like I say, it's clear this property is on a farm so I can't complain too much, but it was enough of a factor that would stop us coming here again.

Also there's very little to see or do in the nearby town / village. It was hard to find many places to eat.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful and if you're specifically visiting here for the walking or visiting the countryside then this property is probably fine, but I wouldn't make a specific point of coming to see this area. However Barcelona and Girona are both accessible (only by car) within about 45-mins drive.

So it's fine as a low-cost place to stay as long as you don't plan on spending much time at the property itself - and you can stomach a very strong chicken farm smell. And the house itself was certainly clean, cool and pleasant enough, if a bit basic. Hope that helps!
