Environment: Located in the valley of Cinco Villas and known for its ancestral system for hunting pigeons. The valley, with green landscapes and dotted with hamlets, is crossed by the Bidasoa river. Etxalar is a town of 800 inhabitants, is located in the Western Pyrenees of Navarre. It is known for hunting migratory pigeons with net. Quiet place, ideal for hiking or long walks on foot or by bike. We must highlight the architecture of the houses and the beautification of our balconies both in spring and summer. Take a walk through the Palomeras. visit Infernuko Errotao to see the Zentinela megaliths are our best proposals.
In the Western Pyrenees and at 20min. of Etxalar is the Baztan Valley, very famous, where in two of its villages (ELIZONDO and ARIZKUN) the plot of Dolores Redondo's novels (The Invisible Guardian and Legacy in the Bones) is centered. In ELIZONDO guided tours are made through different scenarios of the town where the novels take place.
Other must-sees are: The Bertiz Park (20km), the Sare Caves, Zugarramurdi and Urdax, the town of Sare (a picturesque Basque-French village from which you can access Mount La Rhune in the mythical rack train).
From Mount La Rhune you can see all our wonderful coast, our most famous coastal cities and its beautiful beaches: Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Hondarribia and Donostia-San Sebastian. Where in addition to its beaches its buildings are famous (El Kursaal de San Sebastian, the Kasino de Biarritz etc)
We are also near Bilbao (one hour and a half) where you can visit the famous Guggenheim Museum.
