Perfect rural retreat.
Chez Georges is even more lovely than the pictures suggest, set in a peaceful village location. The house is equipped with everything you need and much more.
JP and Alix are fantastic hosts! They went above and beyond to make sure that everything was perfect, from the ‘welcome pack’ so we didn’t have to stop and buy food/drinks on the day of arrival, the wine, the fresh muffins and all the tips on where to visit, the local markets and the best supermarkets. They let us know that they were around in case we needed anything, which was very much appreciated.
Both Mirepoix and Limoux are a short (20 minute) drive away and have all the amenities needed - boulangeries, grocery shops, restaurants etc. Carcassonne airport is an easy 40 minute drive through beautiful countryside.
We had a fantastic 9 days exploring Languedoc, biking along the Canal Du Midi, visiting ruined Cathar castles, Carcassonne’s cobbled streets, the salt plains at Gruissan and beautiful Collioure. We also enjoyed relaxing in the lovely garden at Chez Georges with a glass or two of wine! We look forward to returning and would highly recommend!
We are family with two children 12 and 4 ages old.
Chez Georges is a lovely place with sounds of nature and great choice of facilities.
You can travel around, swim in the lake or just rest in the marvelous garden.
There is a beautiful lake "Lac de Montbel" not so far, we spent there the all day: restaurant (after 2 pm, beach safe for children, catamaran rent. Foix (Foix castle): we didn't saw the castle inside, but the place is very nice and interesting. The fair in the Mirepoix (on Monday) it's a great opportunity to taste the live in the real France: to see the local people, buy the perfect chees, honey, dried sausages and other local products.
The famous Carcassonne castle (you will be not disappointed, my own advice is to plan your visit to the second part of the day, then you will see more dramatic pictures with play of light and shadow).
My best recommendations to the house and it's owners JP & Alix.
I never saw such good hospitality that not disturbing your privacy, it's some kind of rare talent and they have it.
We had a wonderful vacation, thank you very much!!!

The perfect French country getaway
Well, the weather could have been a bit warmer, but that was the only flaw I can find about our recent stay at Chez Georges. And it WAS the last week of winter. The warmth of hosts JP and Alix more than made up for chilly nights. Though not the least bit intrusive, they'd stop by every few days bearing fresh flowers or muffins, local wine or a tip about an interesting local event. The cottage itself surpassed any vacation rental I have known, in its generous size and peaceful setting, beautiful stone walls and perfect French country furnishings. The small kitchen was stocked with plenty of staples. It was perfect for just relaxing and reading inside, warmed by the two fireplaces and the view of the 800-year-old church out the window. For our daily expeditions, we mostly stuck to the scenic little villages and hilltop castle ruins within an hour's drive. But one could equally use Chez Georges as a very comfortable base camp for exploring the highlights of southern France and northern Spain.
I stayed at Chez Georges in the middle of a multi-country trip through Europe, and couldn't have asked for a better visit. Being in the middle of the beautiful French countryside, it was a nice break from the big cities I'd been through previously, but with a rental car in hand, was close enough to use as a home base for exploring the area, with day trips out to the Mediterranean, Carcassonne, and a number of the Cathar castles (Peyrepertuse was definitely worth the trip out!).
JP and Alix were amazing hosts, providing all sorts of the little things that make for a great experience, such as a GPS unit to find my way to all of those castles (including suggestions of which to see and which to skip!), recommendations for great restaurants, and of course, suggestions for great wine (if you're at all interested in such, I would encourage you to make use of their sizable knowledge in this area!).
Chez Georges itself was excellent, with all of the amenities one would expect in a top-notch gite. Above and beyond even the usual, I made extensive use of the outdoor BBQ, and spent a day luxuriating in the sun in the huge back yard after deciding I needed a day off from exploring. I had exceptional weather, so didn't make much use of the satellite TV, but this would have been a welcome addition had the weather not been so cooperative. Evenings and nights were extremely silent, other than a few sounds of nature nearby -- exactly what one looks for when trying to get away from the cities, and with an extremely comfortable bed, it made for very restful nights.
In summary, I can't recommend Chez Georges enough. If you're looking for a beautiful spot in the French countryside whether to tour the local wineries, explore the Cathar castles, or just to get away from it all, JP and Alix will have you covered!
this was a great place. very clean and spacious. JP and Alix the owners were exceptionally helpful and friendly. we used the supplied TOM TOM GPS to good effect. it was quiet at night and the kitchen was well furnished. i would recommend this to anyone wanting to experience rural southern france
First class gite
We have just returned from a week at Chez Georges. The house is first class, comfortable and superbly appointed and equipped. It has a nice big garden for relaxing and eating (sun and shade) and room for the kids to play too. The owners, JP and Alix were very friendly and welcoming and provided lots of useful advice on the area. Highly recommended!
