Lovely stay in very well equipped-property in beautiful setting
Myself, my partner and our 2 and a half year old daughter spent a really lovely week in this barn conversion.
The property is extremely well-equipped and was very clean and we had everything we needed for the week and more. There was a stair gate for us to put upstairs on the mezzanine where our daughter was sleeping and Vanessa arranged for us to have some other baby/toddler items as well. It was lovely to sit in the garden and eat and we used the BBQ and our daughter enjoyed running around and playing outside.
We also made use of the wifi to do last minute research on the places we wanted to visit.
The barn is in a very tranquil village. Its surroundings are really beautiful and we were within a comfortable reach of lots of different paces of interest both inland and on the coast for day trips.
We would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future.
peace and quiet in a beautiful cosy French cottage
The Barn is a beautiful cosy French cottage with all the luxuries you need for a relaxed vacation. The Barn is situated in rural France in a quiet but pretty village called Sigournais.
The owner, a British lady, is very friendly and thoughtful.
For urban pleasures such as shopping, broad choice of restaurants and activities for children you shouldn't come to Sigournais. For relaxing and experiencing the real French rural life though, you couldn't make a better choice than renting The Barn!
The house is perfect for couples and small families. For bigger families you can rent the other property of the owner which is situated in the same homestead as The Barn.
Thanks for a lovely vacation!
We spent two weeks in this accommodation in Chantonnay in August 2011. Barn has all the mod cons and in great condition. Nice private back garden where we could sit out and bbq in the evenings. Local village nice and lake nearby was very convenient if you did not want to do a big trip on a particular day. Vanessa was very helpful and we would have no hesitation in recommending it as a great base to relax and also explore the region.
France holiday May - June 2011.
My husband and I stayed at The Barn in late May early June 2011 or one week. We had been in France for almost five weeks and this was the most relaxing and enjoyable of our time there. Our hosts had made our stay very comfortable and the surroundings were absolutely beautiful. The property was exceptional clean and well maintained. It had everything we required including a variety of books, internet, music, TV. Beautiful herbs outside for use when cooking gave it an extra homey feel. The owner went out of her way to assist with any queries and indeed, went the extra mile in providing customer service. Beautiful waks in the countryside with very friendly though not intrusive neighbours. We would highly commend The Barn to any prospective holiday makers.

Brilliant holiday in the Barn!
We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing week in the Barn, which was superbly furnished and felt like home from home. Its location in a quiet hamlet in beautiful rural France made for lots of lovely walks. In the evenings we enjoyed relaxing on the patio. admiring the view. The local residents were very friendly, and a visit to the local Château (which you can see from the Barn) is a must. The local restaurant food was also superb and the owners very welcoming.
There were lots of places within each reach, La Rochelle was just over an hour away and well worth a visit as was Puy Du Fu (20minutes away). We had a wonderful week and hope to return soon.
The property is located in the Vendee, a 5 minute drive from Sigournais or a 10 minute drive from Chantonnay. circa 45 minutes from Sable d'Orlonne, Nantes, la Rochelle and Poitiers. The barn, is in a hamlet nestling in the glorious countryside of the Vendee and dates from the 17th century. Many of the hamlets original occupants worked at the famous chateau de Sigournais. The location is the place to unwind completely, there is virtually no traffic but sometimes the occasional tractor! It is particularly peaceful. There are working farms close by and it is not unusual to see cows grazing in the fields around Sigournais. over the field beyond the patio you can see the chateau and its original driveway through an avenue of trees. Sigournais is a 10 minute walk away. There is a general store, a hairdresser and a bar/restaurant. Chantonnay is a 10 minute drive away where there are many shops including 3 large supermarkets, a general market on Thursday and a food market on Saturday. There is also a cinema, swimming pool and numerous bars and restaurants.
Spend a day at the beaches of Sable d'Olonne, la Tranche or la Faute, take a boat out in the Marais Poitevin (green Venice of France). Go for lunch in La Rochelle, antique hunt in the afternoon or see the sights. The Lac du Rochereau, 5 minutes from the Barn, is probably one of the most beautiful spots you have ever seen. You can swim from its beach, take a boat out, have a picnic, admire and paint the views, or try fishing for carp. Go for a day's sightseeing or shopping in Nantes, La Rochelle or Poitiers.
The barn is 30 minutes from either the Puy du Fou which features the history of the Vendee (also the most visited attraction in France after the Eiffel tower, it celebrates the heritage of the Vendee and is a most spectacular day out) see www.puydufou.com or Futuroscope - for games, adventure and more (www.futuroscope.com)
Nearby there's riding, horse racing, surfing, water sports, cycling, running, golf and even night clubs for the enegetic! Also there's ballooning, bird watching, walks, forests, canoeing, many places of historic interest, markets, zoo's, villages and lots of bars and restaurants for the not so energetic.
Other Activities: wildlife, boating, swimming, museums, shopping, restaurants, Vendee coast, chateaux, birdwatching.
Golf: There are 4 golf courses all within an hours drive.
These are Les Fontenelles. Famous for its driving range, this golf course with its many hedgerows provides an excellent succession of water features, maritime pine and oaks over 2 miles.
La Domangère. The highest slope in France with a wealth of shots to be played, this is a delightful course that those in search of new challenges will want to experience. (This is supposed to be one of the more difficult golf courses in France).
Port Bougenay. On the edge of the sea and bordering an enclosed forest, this golf course overlooks the marina of Port Bourgenay. With hedgerows and pine forest, this course provides a two-in-one experience.
Mazieres en Gatine. Set amongst lakes and ancient trees, this course produces surprise after surprise behind each hedgerow.
The Vendee is renowned for its excellent climate - as much sun as the Cote d'Azur.
